Massive respect for your bike, all the details make perfect sense. Giant Defy, best endurance bike, not overpriced, sensible amount of spacers under stem, Ultegra group, mechanical, 11-34 reality-check cassette, compact chainrings, hoods at the proper ergonomic angle, beautiful Brooks saddle, no deep rim nonsense, and cherry on top is you've got the best road tires ever in a nice wide size, run with tubes.

      It’s a great bike...which is why I’m buying a new bike!

I was only saying to Stefi on Monday in Lidls, she really ought to have received more recognition for her pioneering scientific accomplishments after retiring from Golf.
Julian, thanks for highlighting her crucial role in the creation of your new tyres, I'll mention it to her next time.

Jules fantastic stuff as always think I'll be looking at getting hold of a set for my commute bike. Happy Days 😎👍

I'll stick with 28mm Gatorskins and Hardshells. I'm convinced they're the most puncture resistant out there. No amount of extra speed could make up for extra flats . And then there's Tanus. Now that slow wouldn't be worth it.

Little known fact. Virginia Wade invented bottle cages that were originally designed to be affixed to tennis racquets, but after a string of lopsided losses found them to be more suitable for bicycles.

I'm afraid you're misinformed: bottle cages were invented by Nicholas Cage - hence the name.

Vittoria is always a nice product.

Very informative, although you unfortunately failed to point out that in the UK, they are manufactured by Vauxhall, not Vittoria. 👍

Thinking of getting a new road frame from china. I've never used disc brakes are you having any negative issues?

    • @JulianHutchings
      @JulianHutchings  3 ปีที่แล้ว

No, disc brakes are far superior to rim brakes. 'Don't save the rim brake!' Coming soon to a T-shirt near you.

Ahem... May I (with smart arse mode fully enabled) draw the Honourable Gentleman's attention to the Rules of the Velominati, in particular Rule 40 - Tyres are to be mounted with the label centered over the valve stem?
Standards Julian, standards! By gosh you'll be wearing your socks at recklessly casual heights up your shins next, and that sort of thing just won't do you know!

Tyre labels are nothing compared to his mudguard fitting!

@@JulianHutchings PMSL! Oh you be careful saying things like that, you might get a 'visit' from the local Rapha Compliancy and Attitude Adjustment team...
Oh yes - The Rules of Cycling according to Julian, you've got to do that!

Rear valve stem too long, the front too short. Now get some proper latex tubes to rectify this!

Sound is a bit crap on this, first section, unlike the content! Is that another new bike then?
