    Ayup Jules. That's an expensive upgrade (in my opinion) but then I find the six gears on my C Line Explore more than enough to cope with everything this local patch of Leicestershire has to offer. Other than the steepest of ups or downs I rarely use either end of the range sticking between what passes for 2nd and 5th. Is this purchase simply to satisfy a craving for the next new thing? Do you really need those 12 gears?? Am I asking too many daft questions??? Christ... I sound like my dad! Cheers👍🏼

    According to *2bikes4adventure* , who's technical expertise is very reliable, the 12-speed has only two gears outside of that range currently offered by the 6-speed. So, its just one added that is very low, and another that is very high. Moreover, it seems the high one is so high it will hardly be used. The low one is more useful, and will be welcomed by many folks trying to get their Brompton up the steeper hills. So, as a six-speed owner, you have to ask yourself, is £435 really WORTH IT for just one extra useful gear ratio, even if, being fair, that ratio is the one you have always felt you needed?

    Tesla did that with fugly cyber truck thing - the books opened at the launch party at $40,00 but by the time Musky got around to delivering them they'd gone up to $61,000. Given $60,000 to buy a Tesla cyber thing or a Brompton plus change, I'd take the Brompton, even with the extra increase 12 speed jobbie. Here Julian, what's going on? Crashing your mountain bike, now you've been tangling with tram tracks and come a cropper... Is your stunt double on holiday or something?

    I have an A line fitted with a 3 speed hub gear and a 5 speed P Line with derailleur gears and ,for me, the derailleur setup is far smoother and easy to pedal than the Sturmey Archer hub, which is outdated 20th Century technology that has probably been pressed into service because it is virtually unbreakable, but the downside is that it's rather sluggish and hard work to pedal. Why would anyone who buys a bike primarily for its foldability and manoeuvrability need more than 5 gears, anyway?

  • @asquared8399
    @asquared8399 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Thank you for this sane, well presented analysis; unlike so many such articles in TH-cam it is delivered by somebody with a secure grasp of the English language's grammar and acceptable usage. I wish to slightly differ with the opinion - at about 7:50 for about 20 seconds - that being slightly slower on the hills, because of weight and gearing, isn't really a bother. I'm about 20 years older than the author and live in hilly Hampshire. Finding a 1x bike with a wide enough range of gear-inches to avoid having to walk up some of my local inclines or to able to keep up with kids on their mountain bikes while on the flat is proving to be quite a challenge - especially if I add my preference for steel in to the prescription. After months of search of daily search I haven't found anyhting more suitable than the carbon Orro Terra C that I already have. A Reynolds steel 2x with an 11-45 cassette and 48/36 chain rings are about as common as rocking horse manure (which, fortunately, is also rare on our anti-cyclist bridleways). Finally I would appreciate a comment about the stack:reach ratio on the Secan: for orthopaedic reason I have to adopt the most upright posture I can get on a reasonably quick bike. The side-on images of the Secan appear to show a fairly aggressive saddle height to stem height comparison. How racy is it in practice?

    Thanks for your video. Very helpful. By the way, I see you have also installed Brooks Rubber grips. How long are they. Did you need to move gear or brake shifter in order to install them. I'm asking because I think they are a bit longer than the original brompton ones. Thanks again for your valuable help.

    I had prostate cancer and chose not to have surgery, but 20 sessions of radiotherapy. Shortly after I started bleeding and when my iron levels dropped very low they announced that they'd burned my bowel with overspray. 8 sessions of inserting a cream in surgery didn't cure it, after 2 years I had two sessions of radio ablation. That's basically sticking a soldering iron up your rectum and sealing the abrasions. But, they can only do this in the insensitive areas above the pectinate line. So, I continue to bleed slightly and continue to wish I'd had surgery. :-)

    Hi Julian, I'm 63 and looking back a few years towards yourself I laughed quite a few times at your brilliant humour and agree with all of it, especially "how to save battery life" 🤣 I subscribed on that line alone. I have the Element Bolt 2 and I have absolutely no complaints with it at all. I did think at one point it was faulty when it wouldn't connect and show my BPM from my old Tickr, but after ordering a new Trackr Heart Rate, it connecting perfectly and the old one getting binned, I have had no issues what so ever apart from my age and heart failure finding it more difficult to learn all of the crazy things that it can do, but showing me what gear I'm in, well that's unbelievable. Julian, excellent stuff and much appreciated 👍

    I messed mine up taking the mudguards off and had to learn the hard way what this was. I think the whole bike is over complicated. Great design but they really should have sorted it by now. Needed two new parts after removing the guards or it wouldn't work. Also the Allen bolt for the rear suspension block fell out when riding in Norfolk making the bike useless. Had to wait while a replacement was sent. It took two weeks. Now I've got loads of loctite on the new one. I'd definitely check that now and again.
