As I do work on my own car, I often wonder if car manufacturers actually design engines in such a way as to make them as difficult as possible for guys like Jimmy or even have a go merchants like me to try and pull out parts and replace them. It's like when the engine is assembled in the factory, they then shoe horn it into the engine bay without a thought as to how someone might have to replace a part in the future.

Oil and filter changes seem to be easier on modern cars than they've ever been.
The crammed engine bays are down to wanting to keep the cars small and light for performance and economy. No excess bodywork metal around the engine to make access easier.
And then there's the whole DPF system thing, which is there to meet emmissions legislation, which is there to address car pollution. Even though they affect car reliability, simplicity and performance.
Smokey old diesel vehicles were a pain in the lungs. Euro 4 onwards are a lot better.

@@lint8391 While changing the oil and filter on my Qashqai is a doddle, it’s a pain in the ass in my mothers Clio where you have to go through the offside front wheel arch and then try not to dislocate your shoulder to get at the oil filter. In older cars (80’s and 90’s), there was clear daylight around the engine to work on it. So much room, you could almost stand in the engine bay! Modern cars with emission control parts and electronic this and that fill out the engine bay making it far more difficult to work on modern cars.

Hi Jimmy. I wanted to thank you for helping me fix my 2011 Fiat Ducato 115 multijet. After watching some videos and deciding on my best course of action. Today I fixed my DPF fault for good. It did cost 500€ but 350€ of that was a good ODB2 computer. I've reduced my back pressure by 90% and now have a fancy ODB2 reader i can use on other cars. Thanks again. Loads cheaper than a garage!

Hi, I have the exact same car but on 63k, I noticed that the banding you cut has already been done on mine but the pipe has a split. I have a replacement coming so would like to know how long it took to remove the intake pipe. I have new seals coming as well just in case.

Hello, maybe someone can help me with an idea about an issue that I have.
    120d n47 engine, dpf on, 177 hp 2011 e87. I have these codes
497D exhaust pressure sensor before turbine, plausibility
4CA7: 4CA7 fuel temperature sensor, plausibility
I try sometimes to do some work on my own, because shops tend to not get that much committed to solve the issue, they recommend to change a lot of parts and that's all from their side.
I had an issue with ac discharging in max 1 year. And the guy from the shop told me don't bother searching and fixing the issue, just fill it next year. I went to a friend of mine, and he gave me instructions what to disassembly and changed the radiator and found a pipe that had a hole in it. So I try to figure it out myself.
