You should check the axle shafts on the rear too. I have broken an axle on the back and it would only pull with the power divider locked.
with the trans in N and the power divider unlocked you could spin the front drive shaft and the intermediate would not spin. try to spin the intermediate shaft. and it would not spin, indicating that the problem is in the front diff. also when i pulled the oil plug in the front diff a bunch of chunks of metal came out.
Ouch. You’ve eliminated the cheap parts.

Also could be an easy fix. Remove the diff cover after you removed the fluid. then once you have the cover removed, check the jake brake pads inside the diff. The symptoms you have sound like the jakes are worn out. Its like 30 bucks for the set of them. Takes one hour to install. Been truckin for 30 years, would hate to see a fellow trucker spend all day removing a rear when all it was the jake brakes wore out. Change those pads out. In the future, use your head instead of using it for just a hat rack.

btw your jake breaks are in the cyl heads, not the rear ends and they don't have pads, they open the exhaust valve at the top of the compression stroke.
