I live in NYC & went down there to see the plane hitched in the water. Something very sad about seeing a passenger jet languishing under ice water. So happy it found its way to a museum. A very important part of American history.
I love seeing time lapse videos of humans moving massive things...like plucking an Airbus A320 out of the river with a crane so massive it makes the airplane look tiny by comparison. Awesome stuff. :)
@@ididntknowwhattodosoyd1950 Why? All 155 survived with minimal injuries and are living normal lives today. If anything some really beautiful music should have been used.
'Something tried to take down US Airways Flight 1549, again'. Nothing 'tried to take down' the flight. The plane flew into flocks of birds causing engine failure. Duh.
I have to cop to it: I used to work for Boeing (almost 20 years!) and I could mention every flaw on the Airbus airplanes (we studied them ALL, meticulously) and I, like every Boeing employee or ex-employee, was familiar with the Aloha Air 737 "convertible" and we all said, "Let's see an A300 do THAT!" --- but truth be told, Sully LANDED, didn't crash, this bird! AND against all odds, it did not break up. DID NOT BREAK UP. I have gained some new respect for "upstart" Airbus, primarily because of the way this aircraft performed in Cap'n Sully's remarkable paws! ."There are old pilots and there are bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots." With a couple of notable exceptions, I suggest. Number One would be Yeager. Another, Boeing's own Tex Johnston. The amazing guy with the Rockwell Shrike (or Aero Commander, elegant high-wing twin prop job), Bob Hoover. Sully. And there's this one other guy, a producibility engineer for Beech in Wichita, big tall fella goes by Pinky. And the flight test engineer on the XCor Lynx, big ROUND fella, knows his stuff this Bozlee character! .Airbus, I am impressed. Aircraft fuselage: intact after winter water landing, 155 souls aboard, ZERO casualties. Well done!
Yes, and it worked!!! The aircaft was dried out and returned to service just a couple of days after it was recovered from the hudson thanks to uncle bens rice.
1. The music is terrible, over dramatic, and annoying. 2. It was not a crash, it was a forced water landing that went perfectly fine might I add. 3. Why is everybody cheering?
Donnie Montoya there cheering because that was the dirst sucessful landing in a bodie of water.... With No Lives Lost....SO STFU AND PAY YOUR FUCKING RESPECTS TO SULLY THE MAN!!!!!
Listen to interviews with the survivors and crew. Apparently it was completely silent. I think that the captain and crew may have had a lot to do with that as they remained so calm. Still, it's remarkable, and there was no pushing or shoving to get out either. Every passenger and crew member gave the same description.
Was like watching the tonk a toys we played with as kids…rescue this plane which also looked surreal. Amazing footage BUT could have lived without the audio music.
I love the music! It makes the plane recovery from being half submerged in the icy Hudson to sitting on the deck of a barge even more haunting and miraculous at the same time. Great video!
Prey521 - Thank you for posting this video. I've never seen the near disaster after the fact. And yes, the pilots were indeed the human heroes, but this plane certainly earned its spot among them. Love the music. Thought it fit the scene very well.
21,500 lbs of jet fuel. In the transcripts of the radio communications you can hear Skiles and Sully doing pre-flight check for fuel, verifying 18,500 lbs required for the flight, 21,500 lbs on board.
Still can't believe after a water landing like that, the plane survived along with everybody else on the plane completly intact, nothing broke off, the wings, stayed on the plane, the tail remained on the plane, that still I consider as one of the greatest emergency landings I have ever seen back then with pretty much nothing breaking on the plane. Captain Sully will always be known as a hero....
I see a lot of complaints in the comments about the music and the editing. Hey, it's free and a very fascinating presentation. Thank you for posting this and I appreciate it!
Pvulture b Imagine a mentally challenged person came up to you and asked "how come you ain't got eyes in the back of your head?" Your question is equally as nonsensical.
Pvulture b Wow. Really? You do realize the reason this aircraft was brought down was because of a flock of Canada Geese right??? The Airbus flight control logic actually helped save the people onboard, by protecting Capt. Sullenberger and First Officer Skiles from stalling the aircraft as it slowed and neared the water, the computers onboard kept the A320 in a workable flight envelope, helping the crew to make a successful ditching. A testament to Airbus engineering and development. Therefore, RIP indeed little A320, you performed well :)
From the report: "The Airbus simulation indicated that the captain’s aft sidestick inputs in the last 50 feet of the flight were attenuated, limiting the ANU response of the airplane even though about 3.5° of margin existed between the airplane’s AOA at touchdown (between 13° and 14°) and the maximum AOA for this airplane weight and configuration (17.5°)."
I have watched other video of this event. But this shows how a great plane was recovered and to be brought back complete for it's display at the Carolina Aviation Museum to be shared for the public. An amazing event that was a "miracle" for everyone on board the flight and the honorable way this aircraft was recovered.
When I saw that beautiful white bird crippled, after her passengers were saved, tied up and bobbing in the water, she still showed respect. That is what I see in her.
From the Report: "The NTSB concludes that the captain’s difficulty maintaining his intended airspeed during the final approach resulted in high AOAs, which contributed to the difficulties in flaring the airplane, the high descent rate at touchdown, and the fuselage damage. (See additional discussion in section 2.7.1.)"
Well I have to say congratulations to the pilots for doing such a fantastic job and congratulations to the A320 for holding up so well through all it had been through to keep everyone on board alive.
You must keep that airplane in a special place. It reminds us that anything can be possible. It's a like a symbol of human cooperation too. If I visit your country someday I would like to see that airplane, pay my respect and let my emotions go free
The crane has water ballast tanks to act as counterweights. It's self leveling, so it's a bit difficult to capsize that "little crane" when you add the water weight. Water is heavy.
Ladan Soodmand We just watched that Sully movie last night, so the story's familiar to me. No one died, it really was a miracle. I read somewhere once that surviving a landing on water is actually considered impossible, so pilots don't even train for it. Capt. Sully was and is a hero.
it's very rare that a crash plane that doesn't crash land on something like a runway, survives almost completely intact! and even rarer that it survives a water landing!
There was a KC-97 that ditched in the ATlantic years ago they finally had to shoot down as it floated so long it became a hazard to navigation to shipping! Sully's plane was compromised by some dipstick opening the aft cabin door, letting water in
thats true. but my comment was more toward that the plane remained in basically 1 main piece, wings, tail and cockpit remained attached to the main body of the plane.
Amazing true heroic actions with a great outcome. As a side note, I always thought this song would've been so much better w/o the ridiculous yelling angry men...
So the music symbolizes the hoax, the plane is the dead bird and the Hudson is man's struggle against nature? Man, some high Art going on with this. Top notch!
Actually, experts recon it would have been repairable, but because of the way it was lifted from the water, it got damaged, so they had to write it off. Shame, but yes you're technically right, it could have been made to fly again.
This was the *worst* music. Completely unnecessary
Fully agree, pure crap.
It doesn't even make sense
I was about to say the same thing. No one died, other than the birds and this magnificent airplane.
Save from the darkness?
Yep.
The music fucking ruined it
I thought the music made the video better.
Would have been better with a studio version instead of live :P
"Save me from the nothing I've become" as the top of the tail sinks under the water.
Danny yes, yes it did ruin it. Completely unnecessary.
Exactly what I thought. Why on Earth would you use a live version of this song?!
Protip: Before starting video, pause it.
Step 2: Click on the volume icon to mute the sound
Step 3: Enjoy the video.
Zero2sg step 4: Don’t watch the video

What was the point of this obnoxious music over the video??!!!
Should've been sad music
@@ididntknowwhattodosoyd1950 Why? All 155 survived with minimal injuries and are living normal lives today. If anything some really beautiful music should have been used.
What's with the mystical music? Does this guy know everyone survived?
'Something tried to take down US Airways Flight 1549, again'. Nothing 'tried to take down' the flight. The plane flew into flocks of birds causing engine failure. Duh.
It was the ice crashing into her while they were trying to lift her that almost took her down again DUH
Birds are linked to the al qaida cell you fool
IKR. Idiot kid that is 6 and he makes this video

My problem with Airbus? Its not designed for Right handed pilots or left handed co-pilots... I mean WTF?
It wasn't a crash landing. It was a emergency water landing
PR CUBER please tell me the difference
Crash=Death, Emergency Landing= LIFE
Watch the documentary
FORCED water landing makes it sound less confusing
PR CUBER yea and it based on true story right?
Respect to the divers who went down and set up the lift in a freezing cold river.
Did they put the plane in a giant box of rice to try to get rid of the water damage?
yes yes they did
Yup
Yes, and it worked!!! The aircaft was dried out and returned to service just a couple of days after it was recovered from the hudson thanks to uncle bens rice.
Max W yeah the A320 used Apple in its computers
Yeez
Don't give up your day job, unless video editing is your day job, in which case please give up.

The captain of the flight is a true HERO! He also had a very well constructed aircraft. That little jet really held itself together.
The music destroyed this upload bud. 👎
I love the music! It makes the plane recovery from being half submerged in the icy Hudson to sitting on the deck of a barge even more haunting and miraculous at the same time. Great video!
This music isn't the first time it has been used in a plane crash video
It was not a crash - it was a forced water landing :-P
Yea kind of they wold of crashed into the water badly if he hadn't got it down before he hit the stall speed.
References I saw the movie too
All stand for the TH-cam National Anthem.
Nope! That would be either "Dreamscape" by 009 Sound System or "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor" by Disturbed!
This is also a TH-cam national anthem. There's a few of 'em! PS Don't forget the chorus loop from Crawling by Linkin Park
So very happy the plane was recovered and placed in a museum! What an amazing plane, Captain, and crew!
"something"?? it was a bird strike.
Nice video, but the music is horrible!
The music doesn't suit the video, what a dork, MUTED
what's with the music
Really is amazing to watch. I cant believe it came up looking so good.
Unbelievable that plane was intact
Prey521 - Thank you for posting this video. I've never seen the near disaster after the fact. And yes, the pilots were indeed the human heroes, but this plane certainly earned its spot among them. Love the music. Thought it fit the scene very well.
One minute watching... then I had to mute it and continue watching it.
No problem, it only weighs 66 tons, not including any fuel that still might be on board.
… which would be almost all of it considering it crashed two minutes after take off.
21,500 lbs of jet fuel. In the transcripts of the radio communications you can hear Skiles and Sully doing pre-flight check for fuel, verifying 18,500 lbs required for the flight, 21,500 lbs on board.
Thank goodness I can turn off the sound - what were you thinking.
the poor ice is only interested in what's in its home.
Music ruined it
MUSIC........... WTF???????
Thank God for mute buttons
this music does not fit at all to this video.
I disagree! I thought it added to the haunting aspect of the video.

RIP little A320, you did good too :)
yep!
If it had, why would it put hundreds of soul at risk?
Pvulture b Imagine a mentally challenged person came up to you and asked "how come you ain't got eyes in the back of your head?"

Everyone crying over the music. When you do a video you can play what you want, no one twisted your arm to watch this.
Love the music and vide! Going to see Sully this afternoon.

Great vid, I remember watching this on the news when it happened
Thumbs down for the horrible noise called as "music" in this video.......
Thumbs Up for the wonderful Noise called " Music "
NikkkitoNippongo Thumbs down to you, for your inability to press the mute button.
***** If that noise is "music" then I'm Batman and my nephew is Superman.
NikkkitoNippongo No, you're just deaf. Or, you have poor taste in music. Or both.

HOLY CRAP! This Music killed the whole experience.
the soundtrack is awful....
That plane is in the museum.
Well I have to say congratulations to the pilots for doing such a fantastic job and congratulations to the A320 for holding up so well through all it had been through to keep everyone on board alive.
I'm sooo happy that Captain Sully and His crew saved flight 1549 from disaster. My auntie was on this flight and I would be disappointed if I lost her
Thanks For Sharing !
See how fast these man work on that plane if was my country that was goin to left there
2:46 Holy crap that crane is huge!
wHAT HORRIBLE MUSIC
Alot of Skilled Tech, doing Skill Tech things, making Alot of money, recovering the plane and preserving the environment!!!👍👍👍👍
someone needs to be held accountable for this horrible music.
you dont realize how big that crane is until you see the airplane next to it.
You must keep that airplane in a special place. It reminds us that anything can be possible. It's a like a symbol of human cooperation too. If I visit your country someday I would like to see that airplane, pay my respect and let my emotions go free
How did they get the straps around the plane
Divers
+Aidan Hilty they used holograms like they always do to fool all of us that this even crashed
just like trump the chump is a hologram
Trump 2016
Ya good luck with that US if hes elected just dont bring your dirt to Canada. We dont need Trump Chump supporters running to us when he has office
The crane has water ballast tanks to act as counterweights. It's self leveling, so it's a bit difficult to capsize that "little crane" when you add the water weight. Water is heavy.
Terrible music this is something that is important
Thanks for the video. That was cool...
Whats with the music ?
Love Evanescence and love this story. Didn`t expect to get them both in one video.
how did it end up on a land
is it suppose to stay still and sink on hudson?
So who was the unsung hero? I heard all 155 were rescued
the plane itself, which stayed intact on landing and during recovery
Oh ok, thought maybe there was someone that went missing. Phew lol
Ladan Soodmand We just watched that Sully movie last night, so the story's familiar to me. No one died, it really was a miracle. I read somewhere once that surviving a landing on water is actually considered impossible, so pilots don't even train for it. Capt. Sully was and is a hero.
It was a beautiful movie. Indeed he is a hero :)
well, how could they train for waterlanding if that means ditching a plane everytime ?
it's very rare that a crash plane that doesn't crash land on something like a runway, survives almost completely intact! and even rarer that it survives a water landing!

watchgoose the aft door was damaged.
Cthulhu had it out for this plane. He's probably responsible for the geese, too.
I enjoyed the video and the music. It made it emotional...which is was.
The entire plane was donated to the Carolinas Aviation Museum and went on display there last fall.
We don't use winged craft as we have mastered anti-gravity propulsion, but I must say that that is one tough metal bird you humans have created there.
Where could you find pictures of the inside of the plane?
the next time i see an old woman picking up cans on the side of the road in the snow i cant help but think of this video.....good save Sully!
@64MojoMan They sent back what they recovered back to their respective owners. Passengers and crew have donated various pieces to historical exhibits.
What an amazing captain. The plane didn't seem damaged at all.
How long did it take before they removed it from the river??
Step 1.Mute video. Step 2.Open new tab. Step 3.Play "Time" from inception soundtrack. Step 4.Enjoy!
WARNING: Turn sound immediately off when you start watching this. CONTINUE ON.
Excellent video. And excellent music
amazing landing
sulute pilet
Amazing true heroic actions with a great outcome. As a side note, I always thought this song would've been so much better w/o the ridiculous yelling angry men...
everybody was rescued even the captain
i like how it looked like the plane was dancing
Oh wow, I've never heard this song before....how cool!
And TH-cam said, let there be mute buttons.
WHY DOES EVERYBODY HATE THE MUSIC MUTE THE FUCKING VIDEO AND THE SONG ITSELF IS NOT THAT BAD
Astonishing piece of machinery
So the music symbolizes the hoax, the plane is the dead bird and the Hudson is man's struggle against nature? Man, some high Art going on with this. Top notch!
this shows how good airbus is
Nice video. Well done. Thanks.
awesome time lapse ...
The plane wasn't the savior of all those people. It was the pilot.
