American soldiers could have take the german's weapons on their dead corpse. Like the only german tank of WW1, at the end of the war, belonged to the brits. While you can't say that black people were very representative in this war
Except that 90% of weapons commonly used in BF1 were very rare in real life. A big example would be the Hellreigel 1915, there isn't even an actual specimen of one today. There's only 3 photos, all of which are taken from the right, so the entire left side of the weapon had to be guessed.
Even if DICE claimed "historical accuracy", It's obvious that's not the case as soon as you see half the dudes running around with machine guns and armored trains are on like three of the maps.
People are so hung up on the "black soldiers" problem (and I do partially agree it is a problem) that it comes off as racist when it's an inaccuracy among a whole slew of inaccuracies. Hell, most of the campaign you're playing as some one-man army killing machine with no support, you play as Italian Iron Man, you play as some random American dude in the RAF, like, black soldiers is nothing compared to that shit.
If you people are going to complain about historical inaccuracy, complain about ALL of them.

To be more historically accurate they should have made non-white soldiers appear by chance. Like you would get a 5% chance of getting a black soldier, and a 20% chance of getting an Indian one.

I'm a black guy myself & to me the Harlem hell fighters may have only been a small unit in this huge war, but what they did during the war was obviously incredible & impressive so dice had to honor them in this WW1 themed game. But I have to admit, seeing a black soldier in the German & british armies was very strange.

During a night raid Sgt Johnson fiercely fought off 20 German soldiers using his bolo knife, all while protecting his wounded comrade. Johnson was wounded 21 times during the scrap for him & his friend's life. Believe it or not, he emerged victorious beating the Germans back out of the trench and saving his comrades life. Realize this was CQC and multiple Germans tried overpowering him but simply couldn't.
Mans fired a single bullet, fought tooth & nail dispersing a German night raid of 20+ on his own, ultimately saving his friends life. The Ottoman Empire was actually made up of mostly European ethnic groups. Many Turks are even of full Balkan descent but unsurprisingly DICE excludes the white characters because that's the cool thing for progressive companies to do.

There should not be black men fighting on a German side on the western front in a game set during WWI. It is a nonsensical sight to behold that does history and the genuine black men of WWI a disservice. Black people during this time period were heavily persecuted and would never in a million years have been allowed to bear a German military uniform on the western front. This is sadly the reality of the time period and Dice should have stayed true to that. People will say it is "just a video game", but a movie based on real historical events is "just a movie", and so I wonder what the reaction would be like if suddenly Nelson Mandela was portrayed by a white actor? or if Mary Seacole was played by a white actress? or if suddenly a historically "black event" was whitewashed with an array of white faces? I think black people would have something to say, or at the least, would be surprised.
Of course, black people featuring in factions where they make no sense is not the only thing that is historically inaccurate about BF1. For example, people like to point out that many of the guns never saw use in the war, and yes that's true, but for the sake of making the game play "fun" and "varied" (an essential component for any game), prototype weapons needed to be added to the mix. Adding black people to the game in scenarios where they make no logical or historical sense doesn't make the game play more fun. In fact, it's an immersion-breaker to many. If black people were added purely for the sake of inclusion, they should have added a historically correct black faction, like the Nova Scotia No. 2 Construction Battalion, and implemented a story that focused on their fight for equal representation and the contribution they made to the war effort, such as repairing roads, logging and building trenches. That is a historical correct scenario that most people wouldn't have minded. On the contrary in fact, it might even have encouraged people to take more of an interest in the lesser-known roles that black people played during the Great War. Instead, they chose to put a black man on the front cover of the game and basically laugh in the face of history, and in turn at black people's long struggle for equality during that time period. No, black people were not heavily represented during WWI at all, largely due to prejudice, so don't put a black man on your front cover and pretend they weren't.
If you want to make a modern shooter where ethnic diversity is a more plausible scenario, go ahead, but not in a WWI shooter where it makes absolutely no sense. The men who fought for Germany on the western front during WWI were white, as were the overwhelming majority (like 99.999%) of allied soldiers. I am sorry if that offends oversensitive people in the 21st century who insist on everything being inclusive, but I am afraid it is simply a fact that black men were nonexistent in the German military on the western front. Facts don't care about people's feelings. A game like Verdun did it correctly. M2H and BlackMill Games made a game based on WWI and put white men in it, because that makes sense...

As a African American I strongly agree that there are to many blacks(indians as well) in the game. If they make a dlc that is set in the African theater of war, I would like them to make the majority of the soldiers African with a mixture of Indians on the British side as they fought extensively in Africa. I wouldn't want to see a bunch of white soldiers fighting in Africa as much as I wouldn't want to see a bunch of black soldiers fighting in Europe, Especially in a WW1 setting. I hope DICE will fix this or at least let us customize our soldier more in a future update.

I'm pretty sure the Russians actually used women quite often in their wars. Like WW2 where a handful of women were used as snipers. I just don't think it was very common for them to be fighting so it wouldn't make sense for them to put them in the game really.
It's scary, changing history to be more PC. History is history. Rainbow 6 siege is another example. 1/2 the operators are female. THey are hardened swat like officers who shoot on sight. You just don't see much women at all in those roles let alone 1/2. I'm not saying they cant, I'm just saying women tend to be interested in other lines of work.
Like you mentioned, WW1 was a war primarily fought in European countries. It's a dis-service to the people who died to shoehorn in people and races who took very little part in the war.

I still wish that Dice had focused more on World War aspect for diversity. I know WW1 is primarily a European war but even more locations all around the world would do the setting justice. That's why I appreciated including Russian Revolution in Tsar DLC and Middle East maps in base game.
Not to mention an African Front DLC would have provided an excellent opportunity to represent blacks. But of course that would take effort, something slapping black soldiers into the German army does not require.

When they changed the american assault class in bf3 to a black soldier after the beta I thought it was a really good idea because it actually added to the realism. And why did nobody complain when we had a black protagonist is GTA: San Andreas? Because it was an artistic choice. There is exactly one example of a woman serving in a combat role on the Eastern front in the Russian army and she had to get special permission from the Tsar. There was a female unit in the White Army during the revolution but this was just one unit.

David Bartz yeah thats my point its a fucking game,only snowflakes i see here are people are actually a!greeing with the video.
The uniforms, the vehicles, the weapons and the battles I believe are all fairly accurate. Some liberties taken of course but nothing glaring and out of place except the way the game is actually played.
