I find 'Aaavesham' very unique for one sole reason - the characters sketch were more important than the plot itself. And still very much intriguing. Brilliant!

I think he didn’t understand the movie. The movie not about senior and 3 boys, that was the only setup to meet the boys to Rangha. The real story is about 3 boys meeting, living and separation from Rangha.
I didn't think or say movie should've been about seniors vs those 3 that was just an example I gave about antagonism that the impact those seniors had at the beginning just wasn't lasting enough for me to take them seriously as they were caricatures in front of ranga and amban at the interval block or even in front of Reddy later.

Seriously, I don't understand your obsession with the backstory of the three kids. Their backstory doesn't matter. They are just 3 random kids coming from different parts of Kerala with kind of similar family background.
Whatever needed was there. Aavesham is all about Ranjith Gangadharan aka Ranga
The whole movie is like a comic book/anime mode. The college fight if you notice ranga jumping and running and a.pan overtake and the hindi kids overtaking is full anime mode. So if you look at it as a chapter then no need of back stories
He also produced PREMALU with dileesh & shyam
The host was expecting the story to be revolving around the college, seniors, and antagonists, and a strong comeback of antagonists in the second half and a much stronger retaliation from Rangan and team, just like any other typical masala gangster movie. But unpredictability is the factor here. Rangan is himself the antagonist in the second half. The movie is about Rangan in the life of 3 teenagers. and how their relationship changes, and finally revealing who rangan really is. A light hearted guy hiding behind a deadly killer.
I wasn't expecting it to be revolving about college seniors as main antagonist at all... I absolutely get your point about unpredictability but for me Ranga wasn't the antagonist in the second half even after killing Reddy because when he gets to know about those guys that they called Reddy there he still had soft corner for them because of the mother angle. More of a guardian than antagonist in their lives I'd say coz he saw himself in them.
The host has very weird ideas about character arc, the main eccentric horror like character is rangan. And when the boys get along with rangan that change is also mentioned explicitly. I don't understand why does the host expect to have a back story of mere college students who is like just 18,19 year old.
Why not ? Why can't 18-19 year olds can have a backstory? Backstory doesn't meant all about their childhood necessarily, it can be exploring a bit more about their background about their relationship with their families I mean apart from Bibi we don't get to know much about Ajju and Shantan's dynamics with their parents. Maybe they had shot it and edited it out because of the length of the film who knows but hey that's just my opinion which I'm entitled to. You can disagree I've no problem with that. :)
Being a malayalee and being in Kerala, i have not watched any of the 2024 Malayalam movies till now. But i have been following the reviews and podcasts more😂

It wasn't about Reddy and Kutty at all in the end. It was all about what FaFa was in real ☺️
In this particular movie the backstories of the boys would just be added fluff. It is entirely inconsequential to the story, as the boys' personalities give a vague picture of their respective characters, which is enough for the plot to progress.
Please watch FAFA’s “Diamond Necklace” a ten year old super hit movie. You will definitely love it.

I felt just one negative. That was the backstory of FaFa's rise which did feel like made up story by Amban... But I didn't care about it as it wasn't about story at all, it was all about vibing and entertainment...
The host still sticking on to the conventional film making, where its about antagonist vs protagonist, flash back for the kids, 2 kids failing the exam in the end, so their story is not complete etc etc.. But the guest made some good points

I know I know it's a funny film which I absolutely enjoyed and laughed and clapped and hooted to but I couldn't help myself but think of those points because of how well Malayalam cinema in general deals with building a character arc. Expected a little more on the three guys as they had on ranga.

Sure that's your opinion but I just felt a bit more information on them would've helped me understand their characters a little more and the dynamics they had with their family, with Ranga and even between themselves.

If I knew a bit more about them, their traits, how alike they are from each other it would have made me understand even better how and why they all looked at Ranga with different lenses I guess. But since it's an out and out comedy film, I guess we don't really need to go that deeper into it so I can let that go and still be entertained. :)

Why not? That's just my opinion you can disagree sure. Look I just felt because those three guys are as important as Ranga that's why they deserved their own back story too. As an audience I'd have loved to dive deep into their psyche and what sort of background they came from etc.

No actually if it was bollywood they'd never care about enough layers and be a lot more superficial because they've forgotten how to make a good comedy film but here because I absolutely adore Malayalam cinema I expected a bit more on the three guys just a ranga :)
