Single Leg Counter: practicing with kick shield!

  • Here’s a drill from class that uses a kick shield to work the timing and overall feel of countering a single leg tack down. These types of drills are important for early cultivation of a movement. Coordination of muscle groups is necessary before one can apply the movement in a dynamic manner. Students can work more slowly and without fear of injury to themselves or a training partner with the kick shield, while still maintaining the idea of working with a body.

      I was starting them out at the beginner level. You apply it to an actual shot. I'll see about getting someone who is able to be on the receiving end of it. If you have wrestled or done grappling, this is like a sprawl, but with you adding in the hits.
