Metali is so fun live. I'm pretty sure its going to be a staple at their concerts for years to come.
This song is a banger, and a fun festival song. Also, while Momo has supported Babymetal as a backup dancer since 2019, she wasn't official until Apr 2023. Metali was the first single released after her inauguration, so this is THE very first time we hear Momo's voice on an official release, which is why they gave her a special "mini-solo" of sorts.
The lyrics of this song calls out to all the boys and girls of the "Metal Village" to sing and dance because this is a festival, we are all going to act like a fool, and no one's going home! The MV has a lot of funny jabs against "traditionally restrictive" Japanese culture, a few examples:
Moa/Momo kicking away the tea set, wearing shoes on Tatami Mat, and the Fox Signs through the Shoji wall. Not to mention Momoko's "Kabuki Theater" performance, which is traditionally a high-brow, male actors only theater (think of western Operas). Babymetal loves to be rebelious and pokes at the restrictive traditions to get all the plebs involved because EVERYONE will join in to have fun at a metal festival. 😆🤣

In their live performances of this song, Momometal growls "Are you ready!". During their recent world tour, it was the first time they revealed Momometal growling.🤘🦊🤘

We got another banger for Japanese festival or any festival around, they performed this at the recent World Tour 2023/2024 and getting the crowd going bonkers with this.
The live debut was at Apocrypha - Another One exclusive show prior to the track release, it was fun and totally unexpected, everyone was having a blast and even started with a Kami Band solo after a while without it.
There's a live proshot version at Summer Sonic Festival in Osaka released in the official summer sonic, but it's heavily blocked, luckily there's another official live MV they did last year at NEX_FEST Festival safe to react. You'll notice some slight difference between the live and the studio album.
The song title is Metali!! (metal + matsuri, which is a Japanese festival) and you can hear it in the spoken section when MomoMetal is doing the Kabuki moves style, and btw this is her first official MV as an official member, although she was part of some official live MV as an avenger.
Also this song is outside of latest album The Other One.
Just so you know "wasshoi" is another shout used in Japanese festivals when men are carrying the shrine, similar to sore and soya in Megitsune and Karate. The traditional Japanese instrument you can hear in the beginning is a shamizen, also used in Megitsune.
I can totally see why they pick Tom Morello on this, the groove, the catchiness, the super energetic jump and those typical 90's vibes at funk or alternative metal live concerts.

We are in 2024, full of wonderful things, LIAB is one of those things, so why not watch more new things? React to any live music at Pia Arena 2023 or wait for the Legend MM blu-ray to come out. Many good songs played at this concert.

Bad songs you say? Hmmm... apart of that abomination I'm not gonna name (and it's not even their song)... Some fans consider "Elevator Girl" (the English version) their weakest one and there is also "Future Metal" which is an intro/opener and I don't consider it a proper song. Also in the bottom of the barrel (in my opinion): "Da Da Dance" and "↑↓←→BBAB". 😈

go check out their early mv like Megitsune or Ijime dame zettai. It was like 10 years ago but still good since they performed at very young age.
わっしょい(Wasshoi) is a shout used when carrying a お神輿(omikoshi=portable shrine). There are many different calls, but "wasshoi" is the most familiar.
If you do a TH-cam search on 「夏祭り お神輿」, you will find a video that will give you an idea of the atmosphere.
What MOMO was doing was a 歌舞伎(Kabuki) performance(見得=Mie).

It's about a metal village holding a metal festival (matsuri) and they're saying we are all fools - the fools that dance and the fools that watch - so if we''re all here and we're all fools we may as well all dance.

None of their songs are technically "bad" as such but everyone has a couple they possibly skip or feel a bit "meh" about. The english lyric version of Elevator Girl is straight cringe while I'm not in a hurry to listen to The One (the 80s glam rock feel of it puts me to sleep), The Legend or (controversy) Tales Of The Destinies again.
Yeah Metali is in my top 10! Expecially the first part! So Kawaii! 😄

The only song of theirs that I really don’t like is ‘ Oh Majinai’ with Joakim from Sabaton. I’m also a little cool on the first half of the Metal Galaxy album because I find it a little too Pop for my taste but the back end of that album is some of my favourite material. I’m not upset by it at all though, I love the fact that Kobametal is willing to push the boundaries in every direction. That’s is what true artistry is all about.
If it's a video from Babymetal's Official channel, don't expect any subtitles. 🤣I think they purposely don't add any.
In my opinion, if you like "Gimme Chocolate!" you won't find any bad Babymetal song. Usually people dislike a Babymetal song because they probably dislike the songs with too much of the "Babymetal flavour" in it and they probably prefer the more Metal side of them. Again just my opinion though.
