Great reaction. The neck brace plays a big part in the BABYMETAL lore. It is a tribute to X Japan's founder and drummer Yoshiki who damaged his neck headbanging, needed surgery and had to wear one for most of the time.
They have used the neck brace in many live concerts, at some everybody in the audience had to wear one - that was the case at Tokyo Dome in 2016, two nights both sold out and they gave out 55,000 neck braces each night with remote controlled LED bulbs for everybody to wear.
'Headbanger' (or to give it its official title 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!') is a song about a girl going to her first concert on her 15th birthday. You were very close on what you were understanding about leaving her childhood behind too since this is also about coming of age. 15 is significant in Japan as that is when compulsory education ends, so the girl is also realising she will never be treated as a child again and her first 15 years passed so quickly, so she is etching this special night of her 15th into her heart so she will never forget.
The girls were so impressed with the guy doing the helicopter headbanging during the video - they called him "Hedoban Kami" (god of headbanging).
There are some very special live performances of 'Headbanger' ... at their Legend I concert on 6th October 2012 the Kami Band made their very first appearance playing this song.
At Legend D in 2012 on Su's 15th birthday and again at the start of Legend 1997 in 2013 for her 16th they performed a dance remix of 'Headbanger' (the Night of 15 Re-Mix). They did it for reasons I won't go into now.
At concerts in 2014 on or near their own 15th birthdays Yui (in Paris) and Moa (in Cologne) took over lead vocals for the second half of the song after Su handed them the mic and stand - she took their place in the choreo. These specials are referred to as YuiBanger and MoaBanger. Sadly we only have fancam videos of these two performances.
The same thing happened in 2019 at the Legend M concert celebrating Moa's 20th birthday (with a change of lyric to "this special night of my 20th") since 20 is also the official age of majority in Japan.
Finally that happened again on March 2nd this year, the day before Momometal's 21st birthday, we got a MomoBanger to celebrate the last day she was 20.

As for the red moon at the end.
They have a song on their first album called Akatsuki.
Akatsuki in japanese normally means dawn, but 'aka' is a noun for red (the adjective is 'Akai') and 'tsuki' means moon. which would make it sound like 'redmoon', all one word.
    lyrics from Akatsuki:
Shining in the depths of the eyes,
the moon is about to cry.
    Red tears overflow
    and dye the night sky.
    Dye crimson! Dye bloody crimson!
Someone called Nakametal had a hand in writing the lyrics for both headbanger and akatsuki. Can't be a just a coincidence.

Babymetal are best LIVE. MOST music videos are lives with studio sound. So aoart from a couple for reference it's best going live. Thats also not the KAMI BAND. THIS WAS A COUPLE OF YEARS BEFORE. They needed live musicians to break Britain. Europe and America especially the UK FESTIVALS which would dedtroy any band if not live.

Great reaction again mate, the neck brace is a tong in cheek reference to the drummer who injured his neck headbanging while drumming and had to ware one. When the girls pull there pig tails the lyrics are referring to the young girl with her beautiful long black hair clucking her half price rail ticket then running to the front and leaning over the barrier and headbanging at the front of the stage, There is a lot about the coming of age, on this special night of my 15 (A young girl going to her 1st metal gig on her 15th birthday). • @road-runner
    @road-runner 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    Great reaction, thanks!
Although the general consensus is that they kill it live, this early music video is also really good. So, here are some interesting facts about it: the neckbrace is a tribute to X-Japan's drummer (pianist, founder, songwriter and soul) Yoshiki Hayashi, who got injured from headbanging violently during concerts and had to wear a neckbrace by medical prescription even while performing. The red moon in the end is another tribute to X-Japan, this time for the song "Kurenai" (meaning "red") and so is another of their songs "Akatsuki" (crimson moon).
"Headbanger" or more properly "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" or "ヘドバンギャー! !" (Hedobangyā!!) is about a girl who attends to her first metal concert on the night of her 15th birthday and that causes a great impact on her. That is the age of the end of the compulsory school in Japan so young people have to make some relevant decisions at that point. So this is actually about coming on age and leaving the childhood behind with a hint of nostalgia.
Not a biographical theme because this is a pretty early song and Su-metal performed it for the first time when she was only 14.
"Headbanger" has been used several times to celebrate the BABYMETAL member's 15th and 20th birthdays (with a slight variation on the lyrics for the 20th) with the birthday lady taking the lead vocals for the second half of the song (if she wasn't Su-metal, of course). And that includes Momometal at Legend-MM during her last evening being 20 years old (and I'm so happy to have witnessed that in person).
    Until next time!

As others already mentioned there are so many very different live versions of Headbanger.
If I had to choose one I would go for the Legend M version (Moabanger) as it showcases Moa taking the lead in the second part of the song.
The For the Fox God channel has it with English subtitles but I am not sure if it can get blocked.
Momobanger from Legend MM this year would be a good choice too but there's no proper version around on TH-cam, all got blocked by Wowow from whose stream it was taken. The only version around is a compilation that includes (video) parts from far too many concerts from all over BM's history...
The situation might change with the BluRay release in July.

This is one of the more interesting songs when you eventually select a live version; there is an operatic opening / house version, metal version, moa takes the mic version, yui takes the mic version, momo takes the mic version, one concert (Legend 1997) where they play it twice, and some where su-metal is in complete goddess mode. I think you could watch ten different versions from ten different shows and feel like you watched something new each time. Good luck finding a ten sided coin to flip to select a live one!

  • @meimemeime
    @meimemeime 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

The song is sung by a member who changes the lyrics from 15 nights to 20 nights when she turns 20.
MOA is MOA-BANGER(LEGEND M) and MOMO is MOMO-BANGER(LEGEND MM). When it was SU, it was sung in LEGEND S, not to say SU-BANGER.
Unfortunately, YUI didn't sing it (or more accurately, didn't do a 20 year old version) because they didn't enroll until they were 20 years old.
However, much of the setlist from the live performance at Yokohama Arena (AWAKENS - THE SUN ALSO RISES) on the day corresponding to the 20th birthday festival that would have taken place if YUI had been enrolled, was reproduced at MOMO's birthday festival, LEGEND MM (Yokohama Arena), and the It is said that the handover from YUI to MOMO is now complete.
(My fantasies are in there too)
In my opinion, in the case of BM, even if they are the same song, if they are different gigs, they should be treated as different songs. Of course, the same goes for music videos.
I believe that MVs and each live video have different charms.
It is not necessary to take reaction videos of all of them, but I think it is one of the ways of thinking to enjoy BM to the fullest.

What a trip down memory lane! Great breakdown and interesting insight. While the song is about a girl going to her first metal concert, I believe the lore established at the Legend concerts has turned into a testament of Su-metal being the chosen messiah of the Fox God, as there is a lot of “Dozega Hedoban” when the singer lifts the mic; I always interpreted this as worship to the lead singer, who ever that might during the performance. Every live version of this song is worth reacting to so I hope you consider viewing them all. Have a great time today a FOX_FEST! • @nothsor

the song is basically about a girl going to her first concer on the night of her 15th birthday. From other reactions, people have said 15 is the age where compulsary education ends so the person now has some serious decisions to make. The person is basically an adult now and kind of leaving their childhood behind. I may have para-phrased this off a little and i'm sure someone will better clarify it. After watching the live version (I suggest legend 1997 SU's 16th birthday), you may want to search for Yui-bangers (cell phone version) where Yui taked over the lead around her 15th birthday. Moa-banger where Moa takes lead for her 15th birthday (cell video) and 20th birthday (pro shot). There are alsom some compilations of Momo-banger where Momo takes lead the day before she turns 21. the image at the end is a crimsom moon which is part of their lore (I believe) and Cousin It was the Addams Family :)

I love that you can see more interpretations in the MV and symbolism than even most of us fans have thought of. The song lyrics are literally about a young girls first metal concert, but also about her transformation to a young woman from girlhood. The insights you found not only coincide with this but enhance it by also noting her transformation from J-pop idol to metal goddess, and from obscurity to fame. Kudos mate. Great job.

12:57 It's the crimson moon which means something, but I can't remember. The crimson moon is often referenced in the animations or artwork that are sometimes shown before certain BABYMETAL songs during past concerts that tell a story.🤘🦊🤘

It's a reference to X-Japan's Kurenai, Akatsuki also refers to that.

People always expect a jump scare in this music video, but it's actually in 'Doki Doki ☆ Morning'. : )
The Kami Band members perform with BABYMETAL live, but they aren't credited on the studio tracks, with the exception of Leda Cygnus (Shinji Yuuto).
He arranged the song 'No Rain, No Rainbow'.
He also did studio guitar work for 'Amore' and recorded guitar and bass for 'Arkadia'.
Koba brings in musicians on a song by song basis in the the studio.
No other Kami Band member has any official credit for writing any of the songs, or recording on any of the studio tracks.

Babymetal is THE best LIVE band on the planet
If you watch an MV suggest follow up with a LIVE performance of the same song.
Megitsune LIVE at PIA Arena 2023 from the Hymnodic channel
And Headbanger LIVE legend 1997 (in honor of Suzuka's birth year)
Also Moa does a solo of Headbanger on her 20th birthday (Moabanger LIVE)

Nice reaction an awesome song! You got a lot of things right, respect!
The song is about a 15 year old girl going to her metal concert, recognising that her childhood is about to end.
There a several versions of Headbanger: “Headbanger - Night of 15 remix” from the Legend 1997 show that celebrated Su’s 16th birthday, Yuibanger, where Yui took the lead for the last part, performed in 2014 celebrating Yuis 15th birthday, Moabanger, where Moa took the lead in 2014 for her 15th birthday and another Moabanger in 2019 at Legend M that celebrating her 20th birthday (this one is truly special!), and finally this year we got a Momobanger with Momoko taking the lead at the Legend MM 20 night show, that celebrated her 21st birthday (I was lucky enough to attend both Legend MM shows and it was an incomparable experience!)
Defo check them all out if you can, they are all worth it! 🤘🦊🔥
