I am a foreman for last years winner Fred Campbell, and let me tell you he can do it all, and is very slick in doing it I have been a mason for 31 years I went to work at 16 full time as a mason im 47 now, and do all my work as if I was doing it for myself Yes this competition is about speed and nothing else, there are several competitions during the week for masonry, from the best custom work, to a contest for the audience to try there hand at bricklaying
thats why you have to work hard to be a mason and not the laborer. Dont take it personal, im a laborer and i get yelled at too. Sometimes you get the diva bricklayers who bitch and moan for mud and brick and throw fits. But with practice you can become a badass bricklayer and treat your laborers better. I hope to one day run my own crews and get some great contracts.

Getting the level is straight forward, just follow the spirit level bubble and tap each brick into place. Do what you like doing. Any jobs good! At the moment in the uk a good bricklayer can earn £40,000 a year. So i imagine doing wall/floor tileing would be just as good. Plus it's easy to learn and a good skill to have

Sometimes they get paid per brick, than a standard day rate. So if they're on price work, it's in their best interests to work as fast as possible.
