- S3E 36 & 37: Jimbo installs a huge Comet 94C duster clutch in the 1969 Renault R10. Since this clutch is very large, Jimbo has to modify everything in order to get it to fit. Will this new clutch solve all the problems with the predator powered Renault?
Check out this 670 predator powered Mazda Miata! • (670cc miata) Its been...

I'm perpetually amazed by all the hard work and ingenuity you put into these projects. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who appreciates your efforts. To do all these completely custom modifications while filming and editing videos is no small feat. Thank you, Jimbo! You make sleepy Sunday mornings feel like the Saturday morning cartoon binges of my childhood!
Thank you very much!
Agreed!!! 😊
I was literally thinking the same thing lol
The same
And how!
(Little Rascals/Our Gang reference. Ok, you wippersnappers have no clue)
That's definitely two episodes worth of fabrication! The overdrive on the new clutch is really going to help get this lawnmower up to 60, and there's plenty of power handling reserve now for when you fit a stupidcharger
The funny thing is that you basically built a similar car to the DAF 600 from 1959 which had a 22hp 590cc aircooled boxer twin with Variomatic. It weighed about 640kg.
Love those old DAF’s , good childhood memories. Wasn’t a V2 though😊
No.
Yup, DAF -- dutch ingenuity with their first stab at making cars with CVTs...
It could drive as fast backwards as forwards the saying goes. NL ingenuity for sure!
Well DAF did use 2 cvts one per driven wheel and the little bit of slip a cvt has acted like a limited slip dif
This totally explains why we didn't get a video last week.
Right? I'm only halfway in and it makes total sense. This had to take some mad hours
I really want to see the test runs of this mods!
This projects get more interesting every new episode!
The wider gear ratio is gonna be a game changer. Looking forward to next video!
Wow Jimbo, that was a pile of work to make all those mods. Thanks for not giving up. Now, try to resist the temptation to do burnouts with that nifty new clutch. 👍
And I did take a nap or two…😂😂😂
Me too Jimbo!
I so look forward to your weekend updates! This is a really fun build, and your editing is top notch!
Thank you so much!
I can't wait to see the acceleration!! I have a lot of hope from those manufacturer gear ratio numbers👀👀
You and me both!
Game changer guaranteed, nice work Jimbo!
Can't wait until next Sunday!
Thanks for your hard work Jimbo, it's sure is a lot of work... But it's nice to see things getting buttoned up in a way that can last over the truly long hauls.
Sometimes you have to take a few steps back to move forward. The Renault is going to be flying with the new setup, Great work and this was a really interesting double episode!
From 4:48 I had my finger going back and forth from the UNSUBSCRIBE button... you had me on an EMOTIONAL DAMAGE roller coaster ride...!!!! AWESOME...!!!!
Thanks from South Africa 🇿🇦
Thank you so much!!!!
That's one hell of a lot of work. I bet she will be a rocket. I can see a turbo in the future. With fuel injection, bigger cam stronger valves and springs, rod and piston. I know it's a dream lol. Have a wonderful week God bless in all things.
The end with the sped-up footage really made my day 😅 Its like cars in the old French movies!
LOL, after reading some of the comments, I think some folks think that was a real acceleration test.... There are going to be some disappointed people next week lol..
Those Comet Duster clutches were a popular upgrade on snowmobiles back in the day. Now your one step closer to using a snowmobile engine.
One of the best channels for gear head entertainment on TH-cam, thanks for your efforts🤗😎🤗😎
Back for my Sunday morning pleasure. I was a good boy and went to church online first. Now I can watch guilt free.
Wow! Based on that new acceleration footage I hope you get some footage of your face when it does that deformation thing that happens to astronauts during the G Force testing. Cool.
Great episode jimbo. Appreciate all the time you put in.
fantastic episode. loving the dedication 🙂
A gravel donut would be the proper way to break in that new clutchverter!
The amount of effort you put towards getting us weekly updates is very much appreciated!
Damn! After the clutch swap, that thing MOVES!
Awesome Jim! I know everyone is anticipating the next episode! WOW!
Can you make the shows twice as long? Ha ha, I know it’s a tall order but I love this show!
Nothing like an episode of Robot Cantina to give me happy feet and hands on a cold and rainy Sunday.
idk why this channel doesn't have at least 100k-1M subs. The algo needs to pick this channel up and advertise it.
Doing a project not because it's easy but because it's hard. Great work!
Can I ask why red and not blue/others for the go nowhere juice?
I have used blue in the past and it doesn't hold as well as the red. The proof is I more or less ruined a lot of stuff getting the red to release.
@@robotcantina8957What about orange? Loctite claims it has the strength of red but heat isn't required for removal
Thanks for working your ass off! We’re certainly entertained!
A tap socket set is a game changer when using a tap
These videos are like ASMR for a car/mechanics nerd like me. Jimbo's calm voice and well-spoken manner always lifts my spirit.
Ah coffee made, Cantina clicked. Let sunday begin 😎
I'm a simple man, I see Jimbo upload I watch asap!
Always an absolute treat watching your channel. Love That you share all this with us. Thank you. Very enjoyable
1/2 box of Cap'N Crunch...you're doing good Jimbo.
Thank you for your, obviously, hard work. We really enjoy the projects and are inspired by you. Thanks again.
This new setup looks much better! I have no doubt there will be a huge performance increase.
According to the math... INSANE LAUNCH FOR THE LIL' GUY
A huge amount of work and some really good engineering.
I was pretty bummed to see no video last week. Excited to watch this one!
Another complete Sunday with the RC video! I AM NOT ADDICTED!
Sounds like a good plan, I'm looking forward to seeing how it works out👍
It looks like an incredible amount of work. We are SO lucky to have a content creator like yourself. I love every funny edit and well engineered idea. Thanks for the hard work Robot Cantina (and Jimbo) ❤
@@greatestevar If you doubt this channel's ability to create, fabricate, precisely measure, and achieve goals with untraditional materials and means...... Then you do not know the definitions of the word "Engineer"
your channel is taking off man. honestly im glad i get to see everything taken apart and put back together, kind of like how TV shows in the early 2000's and before used to occasionally do a "last time" segment at the beginning. came here because i wanted to buy a clapped out honda insight and i somehow found your channel. thankfully you talked me out of it and i learned how to spoof the analogue voltage outputs on my 02 civic's MAP/MAF sensor by making a ghetto rigged "MAP enhancer" (just a potentiometer wired in line with the output of the MAP sensor and a rocker switch to either bypass the pot or use it) which let me get scratch the hwy MPG lean burn bug instead of starting a new project car from hell. i figured it was okay to mess with this since honda themselves built a lean burn version of my model civic. got up from ~36-42 hwy mpg up in the low 50's. was driving a lot but finally killed that car with ~400k miles on it when teaching my gf how to drive stick turned into impromptu cardio. owell, got a chevy volt a few months ago once the prices came down since WA state added a ~1.50$/gal gas tax this year.
I am learning more than i thought i ever could about cars from your channel. theres nothing else like it on youtube and thats why your channel will keep growing like crazy. thanks for doing all this work. you have to be retired... so much effort goes into these videos for someone who doesnt get millions of views on every video (yet). hope that means youre doing stuff you always wanted to but never had time/re$ources.
thanks for uploading man, have a good day :)
Thanks!!!
2 things i look forward to on sundays, robot cantina and football!
Good morning everyone!!!!
Great video. I know how much work goes into something like this, which is why I appreciate watching you do it so much instead of doing it myself. 😁
I bought a 94C Duster in the 80's for my old Ski-doo.
that warp speed ending shot! *chefs kiss*
Sunday and Robot Cantina, the world is fine...
Love the humor! Dont change! Keep up the awesome content!
I forgot I had the video on 2x and I was blown away by the acceleration clip i had to sit up and watch it again!
We knew something was up when an extra week passed without an entry. And the result is an amazing fix. I have a brother with a big old industrial lathe in his garage (there went a whole wall of storage space), which is fun to watch, so it was great to see what you do with yours. That new clutch looks much more substantial and likely to work once you get everything lined up and dialed in. We await the zero to fifty data with great anticipation. With that broad range of ratios, maybe even zero to sixty! Quarter mile through the traps!
Wow Jimbo, you have REALLY been busy! Thanks for all the effort in putting the video together, I don't expect that much work each week, that sounds like overload! Yeah, 1 and 2 cylinder air-cooled lawn mower engines are not known for refined operation so, a generous de-rating of mounts, CVT, driven shafts, belts, and etc. is always a good idea. Using 1 or 2 large cylinders to make power results in huge torque pulses to the entire system.
Your engine/CVT cradle has held up well considering all the abuse. For designs that complex, I make a CAD drawing ahead of time, which also catches some design problems before parts get carved out. Yes, I know the basic, engineering sketch on a napkin has launched many revolutionary ideas, that and it saves time for basic concepts.
Keep up the fine work Jimbo, each one of your videos is very interesting, even with the gnomes ocasionally interfering. 😂
Nice work Jim. I like the ratios on the new clutch. It might alleviate the need to shift the four speed.
Jimbo your living my dream! You are simply the best
thank you for taking the time to do all this for us
We appreciate all the hard work. It was definitely a good plan to tear all the way back down to eliminate the belt issue.
I’m anxious to see this thing back on the road, glad to see you’re working so hard to get it back together. Can’t wait to see how well the new cvt works
That Italian drive belt? Cintura di sicurezza, of course. Truly an international car. The Renault brothers, Louis, Fernand, and Marcel, and would be proud. 🤗 Or maybe not. 😮💨
"I did take a nap or two" 🤣 excellent video Jimbo! I can't wait to see it rip with the new clutch!
I enjoy the debugging and fabricating videos just as much as the road tests. Excellent work as always!
This is one of my favorite series on YT. I show all my friends!!!! Much love and keep rockin'!
I'm going to be the community car guy troll and put in the obligatory statement of "MORE DONUTS!!!" lol (kidding)
I want this build to succeed without (much) destruction. I love watching your videos and the amount of work you put in is definitely way more than "it feels like" just watching a video or two. But I am old and somewhat partially wise (on a good day), and my experience tells me Jimbo is putting a LOT of work into this! Great job.
One more Jimbo! One more Jimbo! Thanks for the hard work!
To be fair, that comet 44 took more punishment than i believed it could, as allways beautiful work Jimbo
Well done, Jimbo.
I'm sure she's going to really impress.
(Although I still say that clutch is backwards)
Thanks for letting me visit the shop.
Now she’s really ripping, fun. Hope it stays reliable now. It should, great work! Once it’s all dialed in I would be very proud to every day this lil baby, how fun!!
I just realized that you are using the CVT as a torque converter! Ingenious!
One of the best and most interesting series I have ever followed.
Video was worth the wait! Thanks for the hard work.
That is the cutest little input shaft on that transmission I have ever seen
This is one of the most uniquely cool projects on youtube. Keep it up, Jimbo.
Holy crap the new clutch is way way better good job the 670cc motor seems a lot more happier with that clutch system you developed
Yep. Sometimes we get a dead end. But back to the drawing board is the answer. Well that and lots of work. Excited to see this speedster next video. Nice work.
Love this project. I used to work in TV/advertising and a client did a study if kids knew what the "needle dragged across the record," SFX was. Answer: nope... but they knew whatever it was, was bad.
Thanks Jimbo. I'm always looking forward to watch your videos on Sundays with a cup of coffee
You are the Morgan Freeman of car projects
The wait was very much worth it. Looking forward to the next episode!
Great work Jimbo
Dude just gotta say your engineering and fab skills are impressive. I’d never be able to figure any of that out. This channel and project are awesome!
I can't wait to see the next video. Hopefully everything pays off and she goes down the road faster than ever before.
Brilliant, i love the constant pursuit of better engineering.
Jimbo, this is such a mint project, can't say it enough, this is a blast!
Next week it'll be good for the road test, say it'll be 15% faster.
Until next week, cheers!
👍💪✌
Let's hope local fans can donate a second Jimbo. Thanks for the video, this renault is going to become a beast!
I'm not surprised by things loosing up due to vibrations. Then again, I was a mechanic for 26 years.
Your work turns out so good. And now I know that Comet makes an even bigger clutch.
I can’t wait to see the donuts produced from the new transmission setup
A big thank you for the humongous work you put on every project and sharing it with us 😎
Great episode, and a lot of work you did. When the outro song started playing early on... well played, it was an emotional rollercoaster haha.
SuperfastMatt had a great explanation for not using metric fasteners when building projects in the USA, Canada is the same. You have 10% of the selection at 3x the price.
I do some small time restoration of random things in my spare time. Tractors, cars, anything with an engine basically. I live on the edge of nowhere in Arkansas. Finding metric hardware can be difficult. I paid $45 for two m14 bolts with nuts or something like that. And now that place actually went out of business so I'm stuck with even less options now. Lol I like super fast matt and his points are excellent.
“Fastest lawnmower powered car in existence”, that sounds like a challenge haha.
OMG, thanks, Jimbo. I don't even know where to get crack.
This was a great video.
Lots of hard, quality work.
Thanks for adding to the saga.
That was a HUGE improvement in fact!!!
:)))))
New clutch looks great 👍🏻
I Love your ingenuity and sense of humor! Thanks and keep it up!
