@@DRE2XL I have the system, and the controller is absolutely the best Sony has made. But perhaps because it's such a large leap from the dreadful dual shock 3 and 4, it's getting way too much credit for its haptics. The rumble on the Xbox controller gives almost the same level of feedback with its trigger motors which have been part of it since 2013, but because of MS's stupid mistakes at the start of that gen, they got overshadowed by the problems. Games that make proper use of it, like the Forza series, are amazing. You actually feel like your car is being gripped and pulled when you drive through mud for instance. But because most development teams used only the most basic of haptics, it's a feature that just got ignored, often deliberately so, by users and especially the Sony loving press. I hope the same doesn't happen with the new Sony one, but developers being what they are for the most part it's likely going to be used as much as that stupid touch pad or speaker was last time lol The resistive triggers are absolutely going to break. I was excited when I thought they'd be using inductive resistance (similar to the Switch HD Rumble) but this purely mechanical system just isn't gong to last, and the pressure sensor of the L/R2 triggers is disappointing as well. I'd hoped they would have switched to hall sensors by now, but it's the same 'buckling dome' system since the ps2 (I think). It is not controlling the vibration. It is pushing back on your finger, resisting it. The case where you see it like vibrating is actually a situation when you push the trigger by applying the same force and the trigger pushes back and releases, pushes back and releases really fast. Adaptive triggers are not for vibration. They control the resistance of the trigger. When the trigger is easy to push, when the trigger gets harder to push (and how much) and when it gets stronger than the force of your finger so it pushes it back.
@@inSertCoiNow There is actually Vibration in the triggers in some games. for example horizon forbidden west when you aim with a bow. the effect is also created by the gear/motor

It shouldn't matter if they do, unlike something like the joysticks, if this mechanism gets sloppy and loose, the motor will take up the slack and you're unlikely to notice. It's all about applying pressure, that is, driving the gear to a specific point, and then maintaining it at that same position with a maximum amount of power to the motor to control how much resistance it provides. The motor will just quickly drive until everything's in the set position, the only bit where looseness would matter is in that interface between the big cog and the potentiometer, but that's not an area exposed to stress or wear. I think the areas of wear risk on these controllers remains the joysticks. If the adaptive triggers are going to fail it would probably be a catestrophic failure like motor burning out overheating. I have high hopes for it's longevity.

I sure hope this is not the case for the Dualsense controller tho.

It's a fine controller, just with less features. Also this additions add price quite a lot. It would be good if they keep the price. Outside the US these price additions are quite inflated.
@Mono 60 USD where you live, here it cost around 50 USD. Also 10 USD can get you a charging station + 4 rechargeable AA batteries, which is good for fast swapping (use one pair while the other two charging). From my experience my Xbox Controller last far longer on a pair of rechargeable AA compared to my PS4 DualShock controller on its internal battery. Also I can't quick swap PS4 controllers, so I have to play tethered (either to charger or powerbank) when it's out mid-play. I have both since I use DualShock when playing PS4 Pro, and Xbox Controller on PC. Edit: typo Edit2: 50 USD is the Xbox One S controller here where I live. IIRC, Xbox Controllers are cross compatible while PS5 requires DualSense to play PS5 games. So where I live, Xbox when strictly in terms of controller is much cheaper.
You can get the helicoidal gear off the motor, buy cutting into it and destroying it in the process. But if you needed to replace the motor, I doubt you'd be able to retain the original gear. I think the gear will wear over time, and you'll start seeing problems in a couple years, depending on use.

i hope more PC games support this dual sense... I already test the controller on PC and its really awesomeee..
It really a game changer.. imagine if you playing fps game and your weapon is broken, the trigger button should be harder to push
How many games support this feature on PC? Is it worth buying DualSense for PC?
this is probably the best feature from PS5
Amazing, hats off to the engineers
A lot of work was put into this.. U can tell.. That said amazing u can remember all the correct pieces to put em back together xD
He never ceases to amaze. Just look at some of his other vids.
The group that work on Dual-Sense deserve’s extra profits..
DAM thats an elegant compact design, im in awe at how simple and complex it is at the same time.
Very educational video :) The only downside to this is that the worm gear and the other black gear are only made by plastic, and sadly there have been alot of videos published where people replace worn out plastic gears on electronics. I sure hope this is not the case for the Dualsense controller tho.
That's some engineering genius there.
Sony always comes up with the good ideas.
Honestly this should become industry standard for triggers
Controllers shouldn’t even be a thing
I would only use it for game story and such, however if there’s some games that has Comp, I’m afraid I may have to change it to off for Comp. this is my opinion.
Yeah true, I agree.
Heyo! Congrats on reaching 1 million views.
Did anyone else think there sound was off when you only saw the captions but didn’t hear a voice??
Yea good point, I think i need some intro music or something so people can do a soundcheck when the video starts. It's too quiet with only little sounds here and there.
This plus VR is gonna be FULL ON!!!
I didn't even know about the haptic feedback until I got one and was playing AstroBot. I legitimately thought the trigger was broken and had to look it up....
Bro it literally gives you a demonstration of the triggers before the game even starts 🤣
@@calisthetics I only remember the vibration. I didn't notice anything about the triggers until I went to use the pull arm on the prize machine and the trigger felt like it wouldn't push in.
Lol that's really funny, not gonna lie
This is an amazing video. Thank you very much for going through the effort to make these drive systems visible :)
If you turn your headphones up a bit you can hear a car engine outside or inside a garage, I can’t be the only one hearing this.
youre not
The whole video, or just certain parts?
@@RestoreTechnique it was certain part of the video, it wasn’t the whole video, if you turn it up you’ll hear it, no big deal but I thought I mention it just in case, it doesn’t bother me lol.
Nice to see the metal bar in the triggers and not plastic.
My right trigger is already shot so any future controllers i buy I’m disabling the adaptive trigger. I never dropped my control so im not at fault. the right trigger is so sensitive now I barely tap and and it engages any action.
mine too!! and i only had it since march. i take VERY good care of my controllers. i always leave them in a safe, cool spot and don’t clack down too hard on buttons. i also didn’t really use the adaptive trigger feature that much because i don’t really like it but even then it still broke. i heard a little snap inside the R2 button and i barely touched it. I noticed the button was so sensitive that with the slightest tap, it would go down and activate. not sure how all that happens
@@SavageStarlite7 it most likely biund to happen because it has a bit more complex than the ps4 dualshock control. I resolved the issue buy sending it to somy for warranty. Got one back A day or two after sending my control.
I was a x box fanboy when I saw this I knew switching was the right decision
jesus
Remember kids the play station 5 looks like a WiFi router and we like WiFi so get the play station 5

Very proud of how well your channel is growing! Well done
What a wizard
Doesn’t look like a very robust mechanism.. although it’s very cool
Like this one! I just thought how it works yesterday! Awesome video! Awesome controller!
Heard about the news that peoples controller are already breaking because of the haptic feedback, came back to see how...
I have fixed my PS3 and PS4 controllers so many times just to keep them working that I am crying from fear from this video 😭
I wonder how long the plastic gears in these controllers will last before failing.
Given the amount of time Sony engineers likely put into these things, I hope that I can get several years out of a dualsense. I’m very impressed with it so far, and I’d go as far as saying it’s one of my favorite parts of this generation of consoles.
Covid fucked everything up. With everyone inside, its Almost impossible to grab a PS5 online nowadays to experience this masterpiece
Get a pc
Now imagine this tech in the next gen PSVR controllers 😭
Imagine no controllers using Elon's brain chips..
@@Mwellmac Yeeeee lets have a Chips in our brain! Lol never, elon musk is a devil himself for creating this BS
But Kinect says we _are_ the controllers. XD
@@ArchangelExile I want to be on VR and my mind control all operation.. sitting still but feeling like you are doing everything all at the same time
the adaptive trigger effects in COD CW would have been a better showcase of the feature for guns than Fortnite, but gr8 tear down!
Yes I know, I wanted to included CW for the demo but I would've had to buy it especially for the video, and I didn't know the video was going to be so successful.
Meanwhile, the xboxsX controller is the same controller
It's a fine controller, just with less features. Also this additions add price quite a lot. It would be good if they keep the price. Outside the US these price additions are quite inflated.
@@gon2571 rechargeable AA are very cheap, less than 10 USD for a pack of 4.
Edit: typo
Edit2: 50 USD is the Xbox One S controller here where I live. IIRC, Xbox Controllers are cross compatible while PS5 requires DualSense to play PS5 games. So where I live, Xbox when strictly in terms of controller is much cheaper.
@Luan Santos meanwhile, your mouth and those 2 down there says otherwise😂
What an amazing piece of technology, I hope developers really take advantage of it
The controller is one of my favorite parts along with the new color design of all the ps5 peripherals and the console itself.
Very cool engineering they've done!
Do you think that helicoidal gear will hold? To replace it means replace the motor also right?
Cheers
You can get the helicoidal gear off the motor, buy cutting into it and destroying it in the process.
But if you needed to replace the motor, I doubt you'd be able to retain the original gear.
I think the gear will wear over time, and you'll start seeing problems in a couple years, depending on use.
I saw a video of how the triggers work like in a game and wow it's amazing I love that controller.
Amazing, your chanel is so god.
Congrats for reaching 2k subs!
