Good people out there. Where I am from, a person left their broken down truck a bit too long. Came back for it, and it was upside down with missing wheels and carb.
I thought a dual chambered master cylinder meant a split system , either front/back, or diagonal. So how come TomTom had NO brakes? Perhaps something they hadn't got round to yet?
Not sure if you guys are implementing "fiber lock" when you use the ratchet straps, but 3 full wraps of strap on the ratchet will keep things nice and snug without it acquiring slack over time regardless of the ride. Hope this helps 😊
Hi Angela, You should do more with Tom and Matt's Off Road Recovery! You showed no fear in the rescue of Tom's vehicle! Maybe you can learn the business and do some recoveries with the women of the shop, an all girls recovery if you will! That would be awesome to see! Ahh but it's not 75% of the braking power because the front wheels typically have more breaking power than the rear. FYI this was an awesome video and I'm glad you brought Tom's wife along. Love seeing these first time reactions to obstacles, you could do more of that and it'd be a major hit on TH-cam I think!

I started off roading when I was in High School in modified (very sketchily on a High School budget) VW Beetles and have on more than one occasion had the sphincter tightening misfortune of loosing my brakes -- always a wild ride!! I always enjoy the combination of Tom's engineer thinking and Matt's just do it thinking.
Rory should patent his design for off-road trailers, his and yours are just amazing! That said that side-by-side maxxed out the trailer. Good to see Ed (minus the neck-brace) supervising Matt backing up to the shop door!!!

vice grips, always carry good vice grips and brake fluid... it'll get you home, rubber or steel lines(fold the steel a few times). it helps to have working parking brakes and manual trans. also front brakes are the majority of stopping force, on road or off road(except when going backwards). 4wd helps, since the rears will slow the fronts via drivetrain.

First "motor vehicle" I ever drove was a tractor as a young kid... Drove it for a long time on the ranch without knowing that it had brakes... Flat land, low gears, plenty of drag... Just used gears and estimated how far it would roll after getting to 1st gear, idle throttle, and finally engaging the clutch... My grandfather told me about the brake after I estimated incorrectly once and hit a pole of a building... :(
Funny but I had just went to his shop after doing Toquerville falls and hit sand hollow, followed Matt up the trail and watched him work, great job. Getting up Milts mile with a trailer was impressive
I was thinking of a better idea to get vehicles onto your trailer. If you weld a piece of square tubing to the bottom of the trailer, front side towards the hitch. It allowed another piece of square tubing to slide inside of it, so you could adjust it with some type of hook mechanism that you can throw a snatch block into. It would allow you to pull vehicles left or right by sliding the tube inside the other. Just a thought. You can thank donut media for sending me your way. I have taken 1 brake out of use before. I removed the brake line at the master cylinder. Then insert a small wood screw into the brake line and put it back on with the screw in the line. Easy fix on the trail.
Angela makes a lot of the same sounds my wife made when I took her off-roading. A mix of nervous laughter and very quiet parts. The best was when my jeep turned into a sled after I hit ice going down a steep incline. Did about the same thing Tom did just hung on for the ride! Lol

As a Kawasaki, Terex owner, I’m glad to see that they rarely rescue a Teryx and a Teryx was able to help in the recovery. But also being a Teryx owner, I know that they’re so solid and ride like a lumber wagon they generally hurt the owner before the Terex itself breaks down. 😂😂
I lost brakes then transmission descending Pike’s Peak, luckily there was a picnic area to pull into to level out and let the brakes cool while my brother made a run to the auto parts store for ATF. Somewhere on the mountain the Aerostar blew out all of the fluid.
Well we know what Matt's favorite song was back in the day... 😆 Good recoveries all, now go put some stainless braided brake lines on Dig Dug before Tom does an unintentional Superman off the side of the mountain.
7018 along with grinding a bevel almost to a knifes edge and fill the bevel with pass after pass with the 7018 rod. Or if its cast use a Nicad rod. If you have a stress point it needs to be beveled pretty sharp. At the mines we had a 3 inch bolt shaft break on a crusher mount. They spent three weeks trying to remove it. I said I could shave down the edges of the bolt shaft making it a point. I cut up another bolt close to the head of the bolt an welded a threaded end back onto the stuck bolt shaft. I used 7018 and large washers stack and a nut so as to not grind down the weld possibly weakening it. It was still holding that crusher down when I left the mines a couple of years later. When trying to pull the broken shaft out the first time I had to weld a plate across that bolt shaft along with a metal ring on the top of the whole thing. They had two 80 ton rams working on the top part of the shaft with the cross plate I'd welded on and an 80 ton crain pulling on that ring on top along with another 80 ton ram pushing from the bottom of the bolt shaft and that bolt never budged but non of my welds cracked or broke. I haven't worked there for many years and as far as I know that rig is still holding that crusher in place.
What i find more mind bogling is, that you are allowed to drive all in this off-road territory. Here in germany if you would do that, you would be in real big trouble... Even if its not a wildlife sanction or else. You are just not allowes to drive off road here (except if its your own property)
Toms wife was reasonably calm. I remember Matt and Jamie, on one of the videos, telling about how they jumped a cattle guard and the next morning one of the boys was born! I think they were in a sand rail. Thats a woman with a sense of humor!!!

I have taken 1 brake out of use before. I removed the brake line at the master cylinder. Then insert a small wood screw into the brake line and put it back on with the screw in the line. Easy fix on the trail.
Would love to see a walk around on Tom's truck. I'm going to do the dash in my K15 like his.
Angela makes a lot of the same sounds my wife made when I took her off-roading. A mix of nervous laughter and very quiet parts.
The best was when my jeep turned into a sled after I hit ice going down a steep incline. Did about the same thing Tom did just hung on for the ride! Lol

As a Kawasaki, Terex owner, I’m glad to see that they rarely rescue a Teryx and a Teryx was able to help in the recovery. But also being a Teryx owner, I know that they’re so solid and ride like a lumber wagon they generally hurt the owner before the Terex itself breaks down. 😂😂

I lost brakes then transmission descending Pike’s Peak, luckily there was a picnic area to pull into to level out and let the brakes cool while my brother made a run to the auto parts store for ATF. Somewhere on the mountain the Aerostar blew out all of the fluid.

Well we know what Matt's favorite song was back in the day... 😆 Good recoveries all, now go put some stainless braided brake lines on Dig Dug before Tom does an unintentional Superman off the side of the mountain.
7018 along with grinding a bevel almost to a knifes edge and fill the bevel with pass after pass with the 7018 rod. Or if its cast use a Nicad rod. If you have a stress point it needs to be beveled pretty sharp. At the mines we had a 3 inch bolt shaft break on a crusher mount. They spent three weeks trying to remove it. I said I could shave down the edges of the bolt shaft making it a point. I cut up another bolt close to the head of the bolt an welded a threaded end back onto the stuck bolt shaft. I used 7018 and large washers stack and a nut so as to not grind down the weld possibly weakening it. It was still holding that crusher down when I left the mines a couple of years later. When trying to pull the broken shaft out the first time I had to weld a plate across that bolt shaft along with a metal ring on the top of the whole thing. They had two 80 ton rams working on the top part of the shaft with the cross plate I'd welded on and an 80 ton crain pulling on that ring on top along with another 80 ton ram pushing from the bottom of the bolt shaft and that bolt never budged but non of my welds cracked or broke. I haven't worked there for many years and as far as I know that rig is still holding that crusher in place.
What i find more mind bogling is, that you are allowed to drive all in this off-road territory. Here in germany if you would do that, you would be in real big trouble... Even if its not a wildlife sanction or else. You are just not allowes to drive off road here (except if its your own property)

Toms wife was reasonably calm. I remember Matt and Jamie, on one of the videos, telling about how they jumped a cattle guard and the next morning one of the boys was born! I think they were in a sand rail. Thats a woman with a sense of humor!!!
