We went to Pai in 2002. Planed to stay for 3-5 days but ended staying for 3 weeks. My one time best friend Jack stayed and built a home there. He wanted me to move there but I realized that the 3 hour trio to CM was too inconvenient. Haven’t been back in 10 years. But might go sometime, but afraid its changed so much. Still have friends there I’d like to visit. In 2005 the dam up river broke and flooded the town. Never was an official count of how many backpackers were swept away and were killed!
Pai is at 19.4 degrees of earths latitude where most sacred sites are located. It is a very spiritual place, people get rejuvenated and disease free in these sacred sites
That steps upto White Buddha are nothing when compared to 3790 steps at Moon Mountain, Khao Wong Phrachan, in Lopburi province. There is a one month annual trek up the mountain to visit the temple in Feb each year, 24 hours with lights along the way at night. There are also food/drink vendors about 500 steps along the way.
Pai is fantastic. It's the opposite of Canada, in that the weather is lovely, the culture is intact and thriving, the people arent stressed out, and it's affordable. Enjoy all of it :)

The area around Pai is pretty, Pai town is a Euro shit hole, Pai has been turned into a cheesy western resort town Ok for a day stop on the way to a real Thailand town, many years go I was guilty of riding my motorbike up to Pai many times to visit the hill tribes, (people who know will know) I was a young then , if you want to see Thailand don’t go to Pai Vagas.
I'm Thai travelling to many places in the world but never been to Pai before!! ha ha ha The reason why I have to visit once is your clip. Have to see by my own eyes why you love this place a lot. You are a real Pai Ambassador to the world!!!
The main city itself is overran with European backpackers. Not a place to see the Thai people/culture, but the surrounding areas where tourist go are very nice up there.
I was in phuket....I was a workaholic ...going there I switched off !!........that place is magical...for the westerner the contrast is soo extreme that i saw people who went there tend to settle
My groups of friends and I went to Pai said it doesn’t even feel like Thailand. It’s essentially a European tourist city that has Thai people working there with a cheap price for food. Even people don’t eat much Thai food there but western food. No culture in the city of Pai
I spent a week in Pai in Dec'22. I think it's a great experience, but there were far too many pretentious, soap dodging, wannabe hippies there. The food there was 2nd only to Da Da café in Chiang Mai. Although one time I was daft enough to buy a burger from the street vendor on the main side street and it was appalling. But I still found Pai a totally beautiful existence.
I cheated and drove my motorbike up to the top to see the white Buddha and try it’s coffee. But yes tons of things to do, very much geared to younger set.
Looks like a straightforward and peaceful way of life, a long way away from the chaos in the West with neoliberalism. The marriage proposal is still on the table either way.

There are cheap excuses that many Thais take to mispronounounce these syllables. I'm happy to pronounce them correcty same as those in other languages such as English which according to my knowledge these are quite important. @@georgeanderson207

Hello you are from Canada correct? If so how easy was it to get a visa for 90 days in Thailand?
They give visa's for 60 days on arrival, if you want longer you will just need to get an extension at an immigration office.
Pai is a wonderful place,in fact Mae Hong Son,Chiang Rai,Krabi,Chiang Khan etc etc.I Love Thailand and can't wait to get back HOME😊
