  • Beck's 1997 album Odelay was a landmark album for crossover experimental alternative rock. Produced by the Dust Brothers, the album is heavily influenced by their patchwork sampling style and the result is a rich tapestry of great sounds and great songs, featuring the hit's, The New Pollution and Devil's Haircut. This is the story of its creation!

Beck, on his Mellow Gold tour, was my first show. 🤟

I'm glad Beck is still around. He's made so much good stuff. I CAN sometimes miss the early style he had, though, but if he'd never change it up from back then we wouldn't have had so many very different albums from him, so I'm glad he experimented on and on.

I’m the same, I love the old stuff but there’s so many amazing tracks since.

Was in a Starbucks lineup and this was on sale, loved Mellow Gold so bought it, slid into the car cd player, was 5 minutes from home but sat in my driveway listening to the entire disc. I literally could not leave my car until it was done. Currently addicted to The Information which I seemed to have missed when it came out.

@@mixingmasteringonline must be the music time machine because I can't remember what I did yesterday. Somehow also remember the first time I heard Loser in my buddy's basement suite and cracking up over "get crazy with the cheese whiz".

Haha, very true! Much stronger memories in the formative years than what happened yesterday…

Dear Mr. Mixing Masters, I sit here at a cross roads in my life. I'm 2 years, 8 months and 8 days sober. I have an idea who I am and I have realised how much presnt and past music has been part of not only my life, family history but also my salvation. My sanctury as Gary Bartz beautifully embodied.
I have mental health issues and great trouble being around people in public, but music, makes me feel SAFE.
FREE. As for Beck's "Odelay"? It is one of those workds, like "Smile" or "The music goes around my head" that sums up exactly how unlimited music is. How it gives everyone a voice. Several in fact. A connection to something greater than oursleves and what is out there but can't be seen or defined?
Thank you for this video and yes I've subscribed. May the music continue,
    David

Thank you David! Music really does have those powers and I’ve definitely experienced that safe feeling too on many occasions. It’s also been really inspiring many times too. Long live the music indeed! 😃

Music is the first thing we hear when we hear our Mama's heart beat. @@mixingmasteringonlineEverything. Including our own voice is music.
So, we truly are part of a never ending song, on an album of eternity, created by a unseen epic producer.
      Keep on rocking!

Beck is unique that he’s worked with both of the dust brothers. With the OG Dust Brothers and the dust brothers from Manchester (Chemical brothers)
