- This Week’s Fishing Report - November Action on LI Sound
Last week’s windy weather and Friday’s full moon made for challenging fishing conditions, with ripping currents and rough seas. Keith, visiting from the Carolinas, joined his Huntington buddy Phil for a nostalgic trip down memory lane with Captain Gaige. With two Northport HS alumni aboard, the day was full of name-dropping and storytelling-but unfortunately, keeper blackfish (tautog) were not part of the story! Fishing rocky reefs on the Connecticut side of the Sound only produced 15” tog, leaving us wanting more.
The weekend brought calmer conditions and a striped bass charter with locals Jack, John, and Megan that was second to none! The bay was alive with birds working as far as the eye could see, leading to an epic catch-and-release day. While all the fish fell short of the keeper limit, the non-stop action-doubling up just 25 minutes from the dock-made it a November day to remember on the Long Island Sound.
Tune in for the full report, highlights from both trips, and tips for making the most of late fall fishing! Don’t forget to subscribe to Bay Rats and Buoys the podcast for more fishing adventures.
