    Imagine this. It's your card game. Some rookies barge in and rob it. You go to the can and return 15 years later. You get to organise a card game again. One of those rookies comes in. He's the boss now.

      Of course Sil can get away with that. He's the most loyal and reliable guy in Tonys crew for a reason. He stands behind Tony even when he personally don't agree with him. Sil also said "yeah fuck u too" to Tony when he mocked Sil in their cardgame before Richie disturbed the game. Any other guy would have reason to worry for saying that loud in front of others.

    Feech ended up robbing the Doctor's wedding after this, partly as a sign of disrespect to Tony. You can see how resentful he is that Tony, a kid when he went away, is now the boss, and dominates the room, instead of him. The resentment drove the robbery, which drove Tony to move on him sending him back to the clink.... Great writing in the scene (as ever)

    A part of the plot in this arc was Carmella pointing out that Tony doesn't really have friends, just yes men who laugh at his jokes because he's the boss. That's what troubled Tony about Feech; when he looks back he realizes Feech didn't laugh at his jokes and resented him. If that signaled Feech wasn't a yes man, then it meant he had to go. But there are other subtle moments to showcase Tony genuinely didn't have friends and Tony knew it. When it's revealed Chrissy agreed about taking Feech out, Tony says "I'm not running a popularity contest." Another, much more subtle moment, is the exchange towards the end of this clip. Apparently, Tony knows all about this doctor's life, because, as he puts it, "Do you know what an MD can do for this family?!", yet the MD never gave an invite to Tony for the wedding. This shows the boundaries of their relationship, that is to say that there relationship can be a lot of things but friendship isn't one of them. But Tony doesn't mind, really, because he doesn't have a necessity for friends. And so he relegates the doctor and everyone else in the room to the position of laughing yes man as they all realize his question was merely a punchline to yet another joke.
    It all goes back to a moment with Dr. Melfi when Tony suggests he's like the sad clown, as everyone laughs at him he suffers. She argues the point, refuting the claim, but maybe there was an element of truth to it.

      It's lonely at the top, and it's even lonelier when you're a homicidal maniac trapped in a person who wields so much power. Tony hated the idea of having friends or equals. However, when he reflects on those who he could tolerate insubordination from its Tony B. Partly because of his guilt in not showing for the job, but also because Tony B was smart enough to become anything he wanted to be.

    • @LandersWorkshop
      @LandersWorkshop 4 ปีที่แล้ว +66

      The MD wouldn't give an invite because Tony is Italian and a Mafia Don (or acting Don) and it was a Jewish wedding. That's why there was a massive, shocked silence when Tony bantzed them about an invite.

    Another thing about this scene - later on when Tony is recalling the reaction to his joke, they're all laughing as though it's the world's funniest joke ever. But in this scene, it's just normal laughter. Maybe the director wanted to show how Tony views the world - he's the most important person in the room, and he DID tell the funniest joke ever. But that isn't what we see.

    Feech kinda annoys me in this scene. To be fair, I’ve never liked people talking behind me when I’m playing a game, but there’s something about his little saunter in the beginning, and his story about having sex decades back. I don't think his 'best days were behind him', but he needed to realize he wasn't a young guy anymore in power play terms. Tony needed his wisdom and experience, and his rep. Feech's place was semi-retirement, still on the books, but more in an advisory capability. He and Sil would have been unbeatable counsel. Instead he tries to play rough with the young guys and gets his ass handed to him. Love the legendary Feech.

It's all such a complete contrast with the way they (and everyone else) treat Feech as just background noise, to be politely tolerated.
