Last month I bought Yaris G (Opt) for 11.3 L. The choices were City (4th gen), Verna, Yaris and City (5th Gen).
Out of which City 5th gen was the first choice but ruled out due to the over pricing in the base variant itself. It is around 13.4 L. Two lakhs higher that too for a family sedan for family man’s drive is the point to consider. So, left the option Honda city 5th Gen. next was Verna. For the same price range (in petrol) the features are not that much good compared to Yaris G especially keyless entry, radiation proof glasses, Brake assist, cabin insulation and suspension.
Finally the tuck of war between City 4th Gen and Yaris G. I had done test drive of both on the same day one after other. I observed the following.
Yaris advantages:
1. Build quality
2. Safety
3. Brake assist
4. Excellent tuning of the suspensions it is top notch
5. Low turning radius
6. Heat reduction window glasses
7. Ride quality
8. After sales service
9. Top mounted rear ac vents
10. Handling of the car is extremely good
City (4th Gen) Advantages:
1. Cruise control
2. More cars on the road
3. Infotainment system inbuild
4. Comfort
5. Interior space looks more
Yaris disadvantages:
1. It is not fun to drive car. Certainly I am not buying either for fun experience or sporty experience.
2. Doesn’t have inbuild infotainment system ( I fixed SONY in aftermarket).
The steering response is same with both the cars. But steering response is excellent and very smooth in City 5th Gen (for that I can’t pay 2 L extra) All other features are available only in top models so, need not to even consider about them.
Finally, I decided to go with Yaris G. It is a nice car. Previously I owned Chevrolet Sail. It was an excellent car to drive, comfort and ride quality. It was the decision against Dzire, Amaze at that time. It was a very good car and I drove it 1.5L kms for 7 years (Diesel). Don’t go with the herd go with your heart. You will never feel for it.

Watched your review. Nice one. Yesterday i had the opportunity to TD Yaris in both MT and CVT. It is definitely top class among sedan in Comfort and Built. It will definitely age well. The car is mini Corolla altis for sure. One more example in India where good car doesn't sell well.

Toyota India couldn't update the Etios and Liva to the BNVSAP safety norms that came into effect this year and also they were not willing to update the engines to BS6 norms

Yes. It's costly to convert the older Diesel engines. The upgrade price will increase the vehicle price . So lots of engines like 1.3 DDiS, 1.5 DDiS , 1.5 TDI, 1.5 DCi , 2.5 CRDe, 3.2 TDCi, 2.2 TDCi, 1.6 CRDi, 2.2 VARICOR, 3.0 DICOR got discontinued

Since the NIOS is the latest model, the Grand i10 is having least sales and will have low variants only
I'm a proud owner of Yaris for the past 3 years... Very well designed car... Unfortunately Indians didn't accept it very well...
As on date there is no complaint from the vehicle... Except for the regular maintenance and services the vehicle hasn't shown any sign of problem... Very unfortunate that Toyota has stopped the manufacturing of this beauty...

Rapid 1.0 TSI is a great car in the Highway speeds and will be a bit sluggish in the city speeds as the engine will be below the Turbo range.

Suggest you to train yourself in a hatchback and take this Mid size Sedan as the judgement will take a bit of time to explore.
