Despite my best efforts, I keep learning from you. Thanks for the tips. I remember a quote from Jack Benny, who could actually play pretty well, that on violin you have to practice to be bad at it. You're a lot better player than I'll ever be on that instrument. Thumbs up to crush a troll.
Thanks again Jerry for another great instructional video.. it just so happens I just finished putting the fingerboard on my customers new fiddle I just finished. So, I’m at the pegs/bridge/tailpiece/sound post stage.. so perfect timing on this video.. I can’t play a lick on a violin. But a local violin teacher volunteered to check it out once I’m done for feedback. Wish me luck.. it’s my first attempt.. turned pretty well.. I think I left a tad to much wood on the bass bar.. sounds kind of bassy when I tap listen to the sound she makes.. guess we’ll find out for sure soon.. lol Thanks again for your sharing and deep knowledge about instruments. It’s invaluable IMHO.
I would change those friction pegs out to mechanical ones so tuning up would be easier, however w/ Wittner Fine Tune pegs I wouldn't have to make any other mods other than just swapping those pegs. Mechanical pegs also eliminate the need to have fine tuners on the tailpiece
Happy holidays I have an old old fiddle unfortunately the sound post has fallen down , have you posted an episode of how to stand it up in the proper position if not can you do it in an upcoming episode thanks from Oklahoma God bless the USA she needs to be great again
Rory I'm sure Jerry covered this subject several times (see chocolate, or Stradivarius he showed the the hook tool and how it's made so I believe I could do it myself!) Merry Christmas 👍🇫🇴☮️
Yes. They are the same thing. Even the old Germans and Italians called it a fiddle. They are the same, but a fiddle smells like beer (so I've heard. Mine doesn't).
Merry Christmas to everyone at Rosa Stringworks!

Merry Christmas. From Merry England Jerry see you next year ☮️🇫🇴👍👏😉
Always something interesting!!
Wiping brand new strings with Martin´s "Fast-Fret" softens them a little.
Merry Christmas from family to all of yours.
I always enjoy watching this non fiddle player play fiddle. He plays fiddle better than any non fiddle player I have seen. LOL 🎻
On that String set the E String is also wound, the Aluminum Wrap Wire softens the tone quite a bit to prevent it from sounding too harsh

Jerry the Fiddle Doctor.
Standard nut to bridge length is 328mm.You always say 325. Small variations is possible but rule of thumb is 328mm.
I tried playing violin once and it sounded like a chainsaw on a cat.
I laughed way too hard at this. I had the same experience 🤣
That's not the way it's supposed to sound?? 😀
@@nancymilawski1048 it's supposed to be a bit more mellow ....so they tell me.
Merry xmass jerry
Do you sell violins that you've fixed up??
I thought you were going to clean it up a bit and adjust the top of the bridge.

That's a little rich, for this fiddle.
@@zapa1pnt Maybe not, & I think it's because especailly in extreme weather conditions geared tuners will make a big difference.
(*Jerry is colorblind)

@@billmumbo2697 thanks Bill I’ll double check the past episodes best wishes for your holidays
I played a fiddle once my cat heard me play it and then fell over and died!!!! Lol
@@roryloftin6493 mind you I can't play the fiddle but I can get away with it on several other instruments lol! 😉👍🇫🇴☮️
Is it a fiddle or is it a violin?
Yes. They are the same thing. Even the old Germans and Italians called it a fiddle. They are the same, but a fiddle smells like beer (so I've heard. Mine doesn't).
I was told a 🎻(violin) has strings, and a fiddle has strangs, by a Tennessee feller'.
Ya didn’t clean the shmutz off on the fingerboard…?
Ewwww…gross…!!!
But otherwise a good basic Violin restring video…:-)
