Curry without the 3 point line wouldn’t eve be a star player.

For some reason, everyone forgets how dominant Shaq was. He took an expansion team to the finals and was arguably the best NBA player in each year with the Magic. With his years with the Lakers, most teams’ strategy was to close in 2-3 players on Shaq whenever he got the ball. Hack-a-Shaq was the main focus. Shaq kept a good vibe and was a locker room leader. Kobe was always about Kobe. Shooting percentage was terrible and nobody in the league respected him.

This guy is harsh, but Kobe is overrated. I don't blame Kobe. Kobe is a legend. I blame the media. When you play for teams like the Yankees, Cowboys, and Lakers you get put on a pedestal. When you become a poster child for a franchise like that the media shoves it down your throat so fucking hard. For example a guy like Tim Duncan. Arguably the best PF to ever play the game. One of the classiest athletes in sport's. Stayed with the same team his whole career and won with the same guys as well. A pure example of consistency. Won just as many championships more MVP's and no one talks about his retirement. The media folks.

Kobe was trash. Just look during the threePeat. The lakers won 73% of their games during those 3 championship years. But they won 80% of the games that Kobe was not in the game, and they only won 50% of the games Shaq wasn't there, and they also won 50% of the games when both weren't in the game. Kobe also doesn't make shots. During the threePeat, look at his FG% in all three finals, he's at 40%, that's HORRENDOUS. He only gets credit for his last 2 rings, he was CARRIED for his first three. And he chased out great players from the Lakers. If the Lakers would have never traded to get Kobe, the Lakers would have won twice as many rings.

Look up the Kobe assist which is basically he'd take a bad shot when he's triple covered but it would be an offensive rebound into an easy put back so even his bad shots led to points. And if you didn't double team him he'd dropped 40 on You by himself so that was really a no-win situation

@@angelcanez4426I see what you are saying, but why not pass the ball to someone that's open for a high percentage shot, instead of missing and hoping for an off. Rebound. This probably works well when you have some of the best rebounder in the game, but it's still more effective to get 1 clean look than one horrible shot that leads to a possible rebound and put back. I would rather someone like Derrick fisher take wide open shot than kobe take a shot while he is triple teamed so that centers like shaq and Howard possibly get a putback.

I think he'd have ridiculous PPG averages throughout his career. He'd most likely join a new team after his rookie contract was up though (after his 3rd season). Double teams on Shaq helped him out a bit but it was proven in 2006 and 2007 that he didn't need another great scorer to get double teams in order for him to capitalize.
Surely though, we can only wonder if he'd ever win a championship (assuming he doesn't get to join a great team some point within 10 years of his prime). Those All-Defensive Team selections were also cultivated by the media and the amount of Lakers fans though. Kobe was decent during the 3-Peat era as an on-ball defender but by his repeat years, was slow to rotate, hedge, help, and get back to his man. He was also selective in playing on-ball defense- usually during the 4th Quarter where his fans believe him to "turn it up" his defense but doesn't excuse the performance he had in the first 3 Quarters.
I think he'd be a greater Allen Iverson- still popular bc of his gameplay, but superior as a scorer and defender. He was also in greater condition than AI so he'd have more longevity but he'd probably have a hard time playing with another great scorer bc he was fortunate enough to have Shaq since his rookie season and Phil Jackson since his 4th.

Ts isn’t an argument. Especially when Kobe won without shaq twice and went to 3 straight finals without shaq! And shaq won once without Kobe! And never went to another finals again . Kobe legit second best player was pau gasol and his team was literally average. Which is why every single player he played with before and after didn’t do anything after Kobe.

Couldn’t agree more with this video. Overrated doesn’t mean he wasn’t a great player. IMHO I feel it has a lot to do with three factors... young fanfare, the uniform he wears, and the drama that surrounds Kobe. Great player for sure, top 12-15 range all time as a matter of fact. He’s just not one of the first players that come to mind when it comes to building a franchise. Too many pros and cons with Kobe. Give me LBJ any day of the week.

Kobe is a better overall player than Wade if you talk about their entire careers, but I'd take a PRIME Wade over Kobe. He was clutch, he can defend, can play off the ball, a very underrated passer, a good locker room guy, and most importantly he gets his entire team involved in the game using them to their full potentials. He even takes paycuts and lets other superstars takeover just for the sake of winning. You have better chances of winning with this kind of attributes over a guy with a "killer instinct" who can never hit half of his shots, has terrible shot selection, low efficiency, and tries to win all by himself to take glory.
Kobe is great and has probably the best work ethic in history. He probably could've won more championships and accolades considering his skills if he wasn't very inefficient and selfish

Gr8 1 Kobe is a better defender, free throw shooter, shooter, and better in the clutch (has more game winners than Lbj and mj) Kobe is more skilled between the two. Despite Lebron making it to the playoffs more times than Kobe. Kobe still beat more teams with 50 wins or more in the playoffs. Kobe actually did more with less. Kobe even beat teams that Lebron couldn’t (Celtics and magic). Lebron struggle with an old spurs team (while having a big three), while Kobe dominated the spurs in the playoffs. Lebron also have more weakness than Kobe. Most nba legends and former players that played with or against both pick Kobe over lebron.

Kobe Bryant is one of the most overrated players ever. He's like a better version of Carmelo Anthony because he has more Defense. Kobe has one of the worst stats when it comes to playoffs and his efficiency is horrible. But............Lebron James is the second most Overrated he is so basic. Basic Dunks, Basic Scoring, Below average defense. That plays the game to stat pad. All he does is camp for defensive rebounds. Control the ball the whole game till he gets a play on available assist. Attack the rim head down either with a basic dunk or a layup. While throwing elbows, taking 3 step travels and flopping to get calls. Also waiting for a pick to switch on a smaller defender. He's obviously gonna be efficient like that. He plays the game to get triple doubles and what's sad is that he's not even the vest at it. Even Westbrook is better at it. ...Lebron James is just a taller Westbrook with a higher efficiency and less defense.

@John Imegi Brons only weakness is his free throw shooting. He better than Kobe , and MJ at 3 pointers. Look at the stats . Bron shot better than 48% 18 of 20 years in the league. Kobe never shot 48% , NEVER in 20 years. NEVER. LBJ will become the greatest scorer ever this year. All while being a reluctant shooter. The only significant record that Kobe has is most misses. That’s a fact.

Jaelen George Iverson was playing with broken bones and hairline fractures damn near every season. MJ also had a really fucked up wrist injury in the 93 playoffs that hampered him considerably. But I digress.
Kobe isn’t better than Lebron. Tbh. He’s not better than Lebron in any thing other than free throw shooting. Bron is more clutch. Bron is a better leader, Bron has higher basketball IQ, Bron is a more efficient scorer. Lebron is a better 3pt shooter. But I guess Kobe has Bron beat with his ‘mamba mentality’? 1. Gets way too much credit for team accomplishments. Saying Kobe is better than LeBron because he has more rings is like saying John Havlicek is better than Jordan because he has more rings. When you apply context you will realize that Kobe won 3 of those titles due to being a 2nd option hence why he only has 2 FMVPs. The same thing applies for his “most wins against 50 win teams”. Again team accomplishment. Half of them came being a 2nd option.
    2. His defense, clutch gene and even his scoring is not as otherworldly as it’s made out to be. He made a lot of undeserved 1st Team All Defenses and his scoring prowess comes from volume chucking not necessarily skill.
    3. His overall body of work simply PALES compared to Jordan, LeBron and Kareem. Is his body of work even better than Magic or Bird or Duncan or even Shaq? That’s up for debate.
    4. Just because other players think he’s better than LeBron doesn’t mean anything. Gary Payton thinks Stockton is tougher to guard than Jordan but I don’t agree with him. Andre Igoudala thinks Rasheed Wallace would be better than Giannis in todays era but I don’t agree with him. Also LeBron has generally outperformed Kobe in their 22 matchups.
    5. Ever since his tragic passing he’s been overrated to the max to the point to where if you’re not praising him it’s seen as “disrespectful”. And it’s only gonna get more and more nauseating from here.
Kobe Bryant is an all time great and will be missed forever but he is not based on actual objective facts a top 3 player all time. He is not better than Jordan, LeBron or Kareem. Debate Kobe with Magic, Bird, Duncan and Shaq.

Regardless I do still feel that he was one indeed a very lucky beneficiary of circumstance as pointed out in the video. There are a number of players of that era including the mentioned Tracy Mcgrady or Ray Allen who would have been just as successful in Kobe's position playing with a prime Shaq ,a talented supporting cast & an all time great coach, coasting & honing their skills without having the pressure of being "THE" guy for the first half of their career.

If you are all interested in reality, here's a careful breakdown of the three Shaq Lakers championships: bleacherreport.com/articles/199523-kobe-bryants-legacy-should-not-be-defined-based-upon-this-past-title. Notice, for example, in the games Kobe missed during those three years, the Lakers INCREASED their already good winning percentage. But in contrast, when Shaq was out, their winning percentage fell to about 500, an average NBA team. That's just one telling fact, but there are many more that are analyzed in the article.
