When I play as a druid I dont use steel at all not in weapons and definitely not in armor so because of that I have to scavenge for weapons and make them from what the party kills. Well after we managed to kill an umber hulk with a rockfall and generous use of the Chain of Fireballs that we had found earlier. Well once it was dead I decided that since I need a weapon and our paladin needed armor that we should skin it. Well we did and I ended up ripping off its mandibles and making a pair of hand scythes out of them which later on ended up being rather heavily enchanted.

Ecology of the Umber Hulk is my bible for these guys! That was back during the "armoured ape" years of the umber hulk, though; I really loved the more insectoid redesign for 3ed
Made one as a PC once... kinda. Not as a power character, but as something unique and challenging. As such, he was a mish-mash of compromises and nerfs to bring him into line with the other PCs while still remaining an umber hulk... the sole survivor of a mad neogi's umber hulk breeding experiment.

Damn I really love your videos. The information provided completely changes how I as the Dungeon Master sees these monsters and how I can "twist" these creatures in ways that will surprise my players. Hell I envision a massive antlike colony of Umberhulks buried deep within the ground where only a small number of Umberhulks venture out to hunt all across the underdark. Could you imagine as the Party undoubtedly becomes completely lost in the winding tunnels and passages of the Underdark they spot an umberhulk only to charge into battle to find 13 in the process of dragging their pray back to the community. Or for stealthier parties they'll see a larger 16ft Umberhulk inspecting the haul of the "Hunters" and as one does not bring enough the large Umberhulk violently sends him back out to hunt. Man o man that's gonna be one hell of a "Non-Combat encounter"(depending on how suicidal your party is) or hell imagine accidently falling into their "ant-like" maze of a city and having to find your way out tense and terrifying sneaking through the tunnels only to be welcomed by the Umberhulks once the party have been caught. (I like flipping things on their head like that)

While playing with my party, many of the members fell into a large hole which led to an abandoned mining system. After not even a few minutes of exploring we were left to face one of these guys. When I realized what we were up against a small part of me genuinely thought my group would experience their first TPK. It took the combined force of our barbarian and Paladin to grapple the creature in order for my druid to get a lucky crit just to finish it off with his wild shape. Needless to say it was a fun experience and definitely gave the party a fun and interesting challenge

You could make video on Trolls. All I can find is that they are basically skinny ogres with ridiculous regeneration. It has been there since the first edition, being one of the most iconic monsters and have next to no known backstory and the knowledge about how their regeneration works. You have to use fire to kill it, but what about decapitation? Will each part live or even regrow the rest? If not, then how are multiheaded They seem very interesting when you know something about them since they are gient brutish humanoids with the regeneration ability of primitive sea organisms like starfishes and Cnidaria(jellyfishes, corals and hydras). I was surprised that you or any other dnd channel didnt talk about troll lore.

6 quick tips for defeating an Umber Hulk or the "Big Bad Bugs" as the dark hunters call them:
    1. Keep your distance stay in the open where they move slow and lumber.
    2. They are sensitive and do not like bright light and loud sounds, vibrations.
    3. Look at the feet when in close quarters and never the face of the beast.
    4. They have very good armor and melee, use ranged and crack that coconut.
    5. They primarily hunt for food and can be lured with bait. Who's volunteering?
    6. They will also flee when heavily wounded and do not fight to the death.

The vision of a U Hulk is curious. Physiologically it's like a mantid, except that the simple eyes should be responsible for distance perception, as well as focused sight (and thus probably dark vision, albeit the irl simple eyes only see in black and white anyway). The compound eyes should be able to see color, but only as a fixed lens, meaning they're great for tracking movement and situational awareness. It would be curious to see the lack of depth perception applied to a hulk with its simple, confusing eyes injured.

    • @stephenstonge7968

Also.. i would love to see molting being used in the species. Exoskeletons can't grow once hardened, so there should be a growth cycle, considering they can grow to 16ft tall as their elite form. This would mean two things; first off you would find molts around their nests, providing a slightly weaker form of their armor without having to hunt them, as well as a gradient in behavior and difficulty, as the hulk is more reclusive and mobile as a fresh molt, which would lead to a vicious and hungry hardened molt, now able to hunt and recover the nourishment that growing and persisting through the molt and hardening phase consumed. Lastly, the old molt hulk would be slower, as the next layer of exoskeleton forms under their shell, providing extra armor, but slowing them immensely.
