Whoa! How did I miss this video release? My loss, but glad I found it. I admit, I watched all of your Tech Foul videos, took notes, so I was disappointed to only get 15 of 20. Not too bad for this 3 year official though I guess. Getting closer to becoming a rules expert due to your excellent content. I'm having a great, fun season so far. Thanks Greg!! I really love this Quiz format.
Only got a score of 11. Very very different mindsets from Australia where I am. Absolutely absolutely amazing stuffs. Thanks so much, much appreciated.
Mr. Greg "Expert" Austin, Great stuff big daddy! You impress me every time I hear your material! Thanks so much for all that you do. The basketball 🏀 gods are smiling on you! Continued success!
First of all, thank you for your commitment to the channel. Question 15, wouldn't you have either 6 players on the court or player leaving the court for an unauthorized reason?
Hi Adam, so the teammate 'exchange' without the officials' awareness. The ball becomes live, and that illegal substitute is legal by rule. Our window to penalize has passed.
Question 11: The throw-in rule states that the throw-in does not end until the *"passed ball"* touches another player (4-42-5), and the Player Technical rule states that players shall not prevent the ball from being put into play (10-4-5a). This tells me that slapping the ball from the throwers hand does not end the throw-in and is a personal technical foul. I realize the casebook says something different, but what is the RULE justification for it? The casebook provides a rule citation for the play in which a defensive player reaches through the boundary, but not for this play. That tells me that they just made it up.
Great video! Can you explain what the penalty is for each technical foul or if they are all the same? Is it two shots and the ball? If there is an administrative technical foul during the game do you stop playing and give the other team free throws and then resume from the division line? Does it make the offending team lose possession or what if they don't have possession at the time? Thank you
All technical fouls in nfhs rules carry the same penalty. Indeed, two free throws to the offended game plus the ball for division line throw in opposite the table. Regardless of which team had the ball when the technical foul was assessed, the offended team will have the ball for the throw-in.
It is critical to recognize that an indirect technical foul is not the same as a technical foul. It is an auxiliary 'tag' that applies only to the head coach and refers actions by bench personnel. If the head coach collect enough of these 'tags' they will be ejected. Make that be your take away. An indirect technical foul on the head coach is not a technical foul.
2 questions... 1. On question 10, we have a team that started the game with an administrative technical and then got another technical for the uniform mishap. In the rulebook's technical foul penalty summary, there is no assessment on the summary table where the coach is assessed anything for an administrative technical. With that in mind, does that mean that because of the team's 2nd technical foul after the uniform mixup that the coach is NOT disqualified on account of not having been charged with their 2nd T yet? 2. On Question 12...players often know they have 4 fouls. Imagine a player A1 gets dinged for foul 5, knows it's foul 5, but coach A has not yet been officially notified by the official that A1 is disqualified and therefore there is a few seconds of interim period in between the reporting of the 5th foul and the official disqualification. A1, though, starts walking to the bench because they know they're dead man walking. This happens a lot...by virtue of leaving without authorization, is that specifically an additional T? (Seems like salt in the wound for what it's worth...)
@@BetterOfficials Let me re-word my question. Your video's question #10 reads: "During a time out in the 2nd period of play, the team B coach request the scorer change a team member's number in the scorebook. Team B has already received an Administrative Technical for failure to submit their roster prior to ten minutes before the start of the game." The answer to the question was "Administrative Technical." My question is: at this point my read of the rules is that the coach has been assessed with 0 technical fouls toward their personal count. Is that correct?
@@Panarchy9 All Administrative Technical fouls contribute towards the team foul count only. The coach doesn't receive a direct or indirect technical foul in these situations.
I was coaching a female recreation league game (13 to 15 year olds). Player 5 had fouled out in the first half. Since the game meant nothing to either team in the standings, since she felt left out I just put her back into the game. The first thing she did was steal the ball and make an attempt to score at the wrong basket. She was fouled in the act of shooting. The official gave us possession. I called time out and convinced the official that since she was shooting she deserved 2 free throws. He agreed. The opposing coach protested. I told him, if he persisted, I would lobby for 3 shots because she was behind the 3 point line.
Hi Roger. Well, you got over on the officials on this one. 4-41 states that "a try for field goal is an attempt by a player to score two or three points by throwing the ball into a *team's own basket.*" So, by rule, this was not a try and you should have been awarded the ball out of bounds nearest the spot of the foul unless bonus was in effect.
Great Quiz Greg!!! I went 20 for 20!!! So I guess that means I scored a 21 since I got the “Double Dandy”. 😁
Awesome job as always brother!

Situations are great but the solution needs explanation to keep track and rule solution , just love the quiz , great rule book challanges
Love your channel! I was 15 for 20, but I got the dandy correct so 16 points
Love it!
Awesome quiz i went 18 for 20.
Quoting the rule, section and article would help. But great video!
Hi Patty!
I hear you. Will try to do that for the next video in this format
Great suit and tie.
Great job, Greg. On question 5, the answer was a bench tech for the player and an indirect for the coach. Will 4 free throws be shot or only 2?

18 out of 20. But I paused several questions to re-think...so I took longer than 5 seconds on several...:)

Hi Thomas. Clarify question number one. Why would the coach be involved here? What category of technical foul is the coach responsible for?
Regarding question 2, you are spot on. It would be salt in the wound. But, by rule...

What foul is called when an offensive player excessively uses his hips to gain an advantage over a defensive player?
