Can you address "how" you would administer a "T" foul should the infraction occur during pre-game warm-ups. ie - dunking. You and your partner (s) are on court, viewing the warm-ups and you see the infraction. Go through the steps as you would address this..
Step 1 - we don't want additional dunking. Address immediately. Step 2 - We suggest having the player come with you to meet with head coach assuming they are available. Step 3 - inform the head coach that we will begin the game with a technical foul against the team member. We will inform them that as a result, they have lost their privilege to stand and coach. Step 3 - At some point prior to the start of the game, give detailed instructions to table personnel about what we have: foul on the player, team foul towards bonus etc. If there is a PA announcer, make sure they are aware. Step 4 - At an appropriate time before the game inform opposing coach what we have and how we will be starting the game and we will need a shooter. Step 5 - When the game is about to begin, step into the floor and report the foul (a bit of theatre.) Step 6 - Administer the free throws and inbound the ball at the division line opposite the table. The arrow is set when the ball is placed at the disposal of the thrower.

Between the 3rd and 4th quarter, we sent an assistant coach to the table to verify fouls and timeouts. The book and scoreboard were having issues all game, so we wanted to verify fouls and time outs. The lead official handed out a “indirect technical foul for a table visit.” When I questioned it, he said it’s a rule in section 10, but I couldn’t find anything in there that prevents a table visit to verify information. In fact, we found the coach could go to the table to get information. So what is it? Did this official incorrectly apply a rule, or can there be no table visits by coaches to get info? Thanks!

As a new basketball official, I appreciate the effort put in to making these videos and was excited to see a new video on the website. A bench technical was given. As the coach was coaching, the refs told him that he had to stay seated because he was given a technical. After several warnings, they gave the coach another technical for standing. Later, one of his players fouled out and as he was walking off the court, had words for the ref. The ref called a technical, but since the player was already disqualified, the technical was given to the bench. That was 3 technical fouls on the coach/bench, but the refs allowed him to stay on the bench. Was this administered correctly?
Ugh. The first technical foul is an administrative technical. This applies to the team but not indirectly to the head coach. So, the crew was off on the wrong foot. The coach did not lose their privilege to stand and coach.
Greg I didn't follow you around the 7 minute and 15 second mark. When a1 dunks during the pregame, it sounds like that's a bench technical but you mentioned to assess it against his player specific foul count. Can you elaborate? Those seem mutually exclusive
Bench technicals are charged to individuals (with rare exceptions.) • Head Coach • Asst Coach • A1 who dunks pregame. • A5 who has dead ball contact after the horn at the end of the 2nd period. So for asst coach, it is 1 charged to them (plus indirect on hc.) If they get a 2nd they are ejected. For A1 who dunk pregame it is on him towards dq for 2 t's or 5 fouls. Plus indirect on hc. Don't make the mistake of thinking of bench, like the inanimate object bench, being what receives the foul. It is an individual who's status is that of Bench Personnel who receives the technical foul. Rarely, it is not. Multiple players leave the bench area and come onto the court in a non fight scenario. A bench technical is assessed on the group not on individuals. Or let's say a comment comes from the bench but the official is not sure who made the comment.. Does that make sense?

The following things will now be happening... *A1 has a foul counted toward his max of 2 technicals *A1 has a foul counted toward his max of 5 total fouls for the game *Team A's Coach has an indirect T counted toward his max of 3 for the game *Team A has a team foul counted toward their Bonus count for the 1st half If that's true, then the confusing part is how a foul could be counted to a Coach AND A1 for the same foul. But if that's true then I guess it's just one of the quirks of the bench technical. If it's not true then I'm still lost.
Your summary is 100% correct. Don't make the mistake of thinking of an indirect technical foul as a Technical Foul. Think of it more as a I dunno "bookkeeping entry" or some such. Also recognize that *all* technical fouls assessed to bench personnel (on someone other than the head coach) will always be paired with an indirect technical foul on the head coach. The two go hand-in-hand.
Definitely part of the crew, and definitely can assess technical fouls to head coaches or assistant coaches or whoever should they address the table crew in an unsporting fashion.
How about Audience that watch in the game and they stay at one team side bench and helping coaching and shouting to the players and taunting to the officials . What can the organizers and officials?
What if a player is disqualified and is obviously out of control and a threat to game officials. Does he remain on the bench or he is he escorted off of the court?
Wow. Thats a scenario! Let's say the player remains disruptive. Coach wants them gone. Releases to parents to take them home or has an assistant coach take them to the locker room. It isn't a prison sentence, rather a safety concern. Think of it this way: a1 and b1 start fighting. Both are ejected and forced to leave. A few minutes later people start running to the door as there is some sort of loud commotion in the hallway!
@@BetterOfficials Unfortunately, These types of incidents are becoming more frequent - players losing control and going after the referees and umpires (in baseball). I think that a lot of it comes from the lack of adequate coaching and the misguided belief that many player have of "playing at the next level. One of the biggest problems in high school and college today is a lack of good officials who can keep the game under control. Your channel helps a lot with your clear explanations.
So glad for the "rules" because they are there to keep the game/sport fair. When players, coaches or even parents discourage good sportsmanship it is unprofessional. Players who play a fair game can win or lose knowing they did their best. 🏆

True of false. fighting is a flagrant act and can only occur when ball is live. If the ball is dead it would be a tech?
