Welcome to my very first black label from BGS! In this video, we're going to be discussing whether or not you should grade your cards with SGC for $12.
This is a very important question, as the final decision about whether or not to grade your cards with SGC will come down to a gut feeling. So in this video, Im going to reveal the results of our grades and give you my thoughts on whether or not you should grade your pokemon cards with SGC.

Not a fan of the label on the SGC personally but cheaper alternatives are a good thing for the market
PSA as the classic will be hard to shift away from for most but there's definitely an opportunity for other companies to establish a fan base and trust from collectors
Thanks so much Tom for the support and the kind words. and yeah i think the sgc slabs the tuxedo part looks good, the label itself looks a bit outdated ish but the same can kinda be said for PSA. I think its just recognition now but who knows, maybe sgc will be bigger,maybe not haha. At the end of the day though, SGC is pretty well known for sports cards, i think the pokemon scene for them is a bit newer so we will see for sure.

You need to hunt down some ARS slabs. They're Japan's premium grading company that opened last year and everyone in JP had already transitioned to using that grader. Beautiful slabs that come with certificates. Highest grade comes with real gold leaf stamps
Dude, I saw them and they look next level haha but I don't think its going to be too easy to grade them XD I do have a friend in japan...maybe they can grade my cards for me from ARS XD might be a good idea haha

LOL that can be confusing XD and oh....thats genius XD..now time to figure out how to do that haha. and yeah BGS slabs really look fancy and elegant for sure. SGC does look like that now that I am looking at it again haha but I do think its nice with the black on black. It might be the lettering or labels that make it look a bit old style XD

Yeah for value, PSA Slabs all day everyday haha and yeah as I kinda said, only probably low-end ish cards should be submitted to SGC haha unless they are sports cards of course.

Great video man, the difference in prices and speed really play a factor in which slab to go for. Especially if you are looking at reselling. I'll have to do some digging to figure out where I can send things to in Canada. If I were to send off my cards I would send the ones I want protected and shown off to SGC since I would be keeping them and just want them to stand out (like my Base Set 2 Alakazam my sister-in-law gave me for Christmas). The cards I may want to resell in the future I would send to PSA because you will get your best price that way. This was a lot of fun to watch man, keep up the work.
You absolute legend of a human being, you have a base set 2 alakazam?! Haha I really want to collect older cards again but I honestly don't know where or how to start or even if my wallet will survive 😂😂 honestly though bro, after this video I have been getting message after message about different grading companies 😂, there's so many out there lol I do like sgc though. Do you know if Canada has a popular grading service as well?
With how cheap SGC is personally, I would rather submit cheaper cards ($10-20) with them. PSA and CGC would be more valuable cards since I know I'd probably get a bigger return if it were a 10.
in my opinion, I like BGS look wise, the label and the slab it self feel premium to me and I love simple looking slabs, but if I will sell some slabs I prolly go to PSA. but getting black label thats so cool, I like black and gold thats a beauty slabs. if its gimik hey its effective😅. haha. congratulations 🎉 those grades are awesome! I wish the SGC put a little more effort with the font or labeling as well not just the case.😔 but with the pricing I cant complaint. 😅so yeah. nice collection my friend. great vid. thank you for this info. 👌🏼🔥🙌🏼
Always appreciate you Tatz, and yeah BGS Slabs look really cool not even going to lie. Black labels are a bit gimmicky but it clearly is working haha bc I still sent in cards to get graded by bgs XD yeah sgc's labels look a bit old fashioned and a bit outdated, I do agree with that a bit. But 12 bucks haha very hard price to beat!

I never graded cards before but that's because I started collecting this year. Maybe eventually I'll come back to this video to decide who to send it to! xD At least, in terms of price and quality of the slab.. seems like SGC is the way to go. Great video!
Lol hopefully this helps but yeah if you are looking for return on investment, I think PSA is always the way to go haha. If you want to have fun, cheap, nice ish looking slabs just for yourself, SGC. If your a super degen and want to chase a black label, go for BGS hahaha...i tend to be all three so my life is hard XD

I grade all my Star Wars and Pokemon with SGC. There service and price is unmatched. IMO SGC will be at the same resale value as PSA in due time.... It's just a matter of time.
Yeah I definitely enjoy SGC so I think I'll keep using them little by little lol. Good price, quick turnaround etc but we will see in the future how far they go for tcgs!
The BGS slab actually looks the nicest in my opinion. The logo alone gives me "card must be worth a million dollars" vibes. but as far as value goes I'd definitely try my luck with PSA. I've actually purchased my first ever slabbed card from one of my LGSs'. Nothing crazy, but decided to get myself a CGC 9 shiny Leafeon GX from Hidden fates since it was the cheapest of the bunch they had on display lol.

I just sent in my card through a friend to psa and pray my rayquazas come back 10s. I sent Luke 7 or 8. After this sub, ima open a psa account and start doing my own. Appreciate the video and the great info!

I've said it here before but I don't like grading. Besides the rigidity of the slab, they don't protect your cards any more than a toploader or onetouch does. They're not waterproof, they're not UV protected, etc. That's my take coming from the standpoint of being just a collector. I don't need my cards in an overpriced piece of plastic to tell me it's in good condition.
If I was a seller or flipper-dipper tho, I can see their merit because there's now a third party stating its condition and there would be less "I think it's mint, you think it's near mint" arguments in a transaction. If there was no such thing as online selling, I think grading would have even less appeal.
While I've used none of these companies, I often hear good things about SGC. Their turnaround times, customer service and integrity all seem pretty solid at this point in time. Maybe it's because they're smaller and have the luxury to be more focused on such things.
Completely understandable nevercold. Yeah I think that overall if there was no such thing as online selling or a marketplace, then if would be much less viable to grade cards. I think the biggest appeal for sellers though and buyers when grading cards and buying cards, is also that you can verify authenticity.
Always easy to buy fake cards by accident lol but completely understand. I do actually like SGC and it's slab overall though, cheap, quick turnaround, and slab doesn't look to bad haha
@@DKCards Right on, man. Ya, I'm not trying to dog on slab collectors or anything. I get why they have an appeal but they're just not for me. Everyone collects differently.
BGS 9.5 used to carry more weight in some cases than PSA10 but it went down hill when they were talking about changing their grading scale to be like CGC.

They should have gone with Gem Mint 10 and Pristine Mint 10, like if it's higher than PSA's 10, then label it a 10. Just have different types of 10 then. Make 5 kinds if you need to lol. Perfect 10, Pristine 10, Diamond 10, Platinum 10, I could go on lol
Honestly I completely agree, a 9.5 is just not the same as a 10 XD and I don't understand why they decided a gem mint 9.5 would be valuable to consumers. If anything, it helped make the value of desirable cards less like my manga shanks, so cheaper to buy XD Gold plated diamond pristine 10 incoming HAHAH

People find BGS’ Black Label gimmicky yet they’re happy with PSA’s gimmick of charging their service based off the value of a card when it’s worth something. They’re not entitled to any of the profit you make off your card, the card isn’t graded any differently yet they can hit you with a $500 bill.
PSA is a hard pass for me.
Yeah the upcharging on cards is actually very dumb imo and a huge money grab. Hate it but I think it comes with the territory when it comes to the name value of PSA. I do like bgs but HATE their turnaround times. Nearly half a year to grade a card when CGC or SGC can do it cheaper within 2-3 weeks. Even PSA sub times are 2-3 months.
Oh almost forgot, camera clarity looks top of the line. I approve of your momentary financial setback to buy this camera many times over.

The thing with sgc 9.5 is they basically all bump to psa 10 or get a random psa 6

only grade with BGS bc preference on how the slab looks. Do not like PSA at all. Cards I grade are for the collection and have no intention of selling in general. Most of the cards I send are non Pokemon cards (Weiss, DBS, OP)

As a Filipino American I would like go see Pokemon cards in Tagalog.
I think Korean cards are great quality and they're like a weird hybrid of English cards and the Japanese quality almost.

If you’ve ever held a CGC slab, I’d say they probably have the best feel in my honest opinion. They actually feel like nice quality cases. But I’d still prefer BGS.
I do have a cgc slab and it kinda feels a bit similar to PSA honestly lol. BGS is the best quality case out of psa and cgc in my opinion.

I just sealed a deal with an auction of the illusive Rayray #218, 415 $ on ebay, but with taxes I landed on 560 $. Man it is a little expensive but I still think the 415 is under the marketing price for a psa 10, what do you think DK? 😃 Appreciate your toughts my friend 🙌

Yeah I think it's always going to be psa if ur thinking about consistency but even then, not so much lol. And yeah your right man. I looked up ags which is like a robot or something that grades ur cards haha but idk, seems gimmicky still 😂
BGS is worlds apart more transparent than PSA 10s. Have you not seen PSA slabs or videos of PokeRevs PSA returns? Then check them out and you'll see just how inconsistent PSA is. With no sub grades they can just put whatever number on there and not justify why you got that grade. BGS 9.5 is and should be an auto 10 with PSA with how they grade cards.
Yeah I don't hate BGS Slabs by any means. The biggest thing I hate about them though is mainly the turnaround times. They are absolutely atrocious for the most expensive bottom dollar grading system. It seems every grading company has better turn around times than BGS. CGC, PSA, SGC. But other than that I do agree with you on the importance of subgrades.

Yeah PSA for value and longevity all day everyday but like i kinda mentioned, you want to have a cheap, fun card graded with no real care for it, SGC all day haha
Crack the 9.5 slabs and cross grade them with PSA. The Value will go up on most.

@@DKCards Well it really depends on the value of the card and what you want, essentially. But I would frame the "garbage" and be the one that's actually framed garbage. 😉
PSA labels are so fugly. Like changing the boarder from red to black would dramatically improve the aesthetic. They can even add gold embossing for 10s

Depends how they grade the cards, if its legit a perfect 10 like zero flaws then great! otherwise if its dependant on the grader at the time then yes, its a gimmick unfortunately!

SGC slabs look pretty nice but they don't hold a premium in value. I refuse to play the black label game (congrats on yours) so bgs is out so my only play is PSA which holds the highest 10 premium compared to any other grading company minus the black label again within BGS. It sucks because PSA is probably only 4th in look. I would say CGC, BGS, SGC then PSA.
When i first started grading, i used GMA. Note to everybody never use them. You won't get shit for them. They are cheapest for a reason.
Yeah in terms of value SGC wont be beating any other grading companies anytime soon lol. and the black label game is such a gimmick haha...(that i have fallen prey to XD ) AND EXACTLY! PSA Slabs look dookie sauce haha but holds probably the most consistent Value. I think I would grade it, BGS, SGC, CGC and PSA lol but Idk, CGC i only have one slab so i am not entirely sure how i feel about em yet. and GMA?! lol ill take your word for it my friend
@@DKCards damn the dookie sauce. I think for 1 piece BGS is the best and most respected play so you are a bit cornered there but the black label on pokemon constitutes 3 percent of 10s so it's incredibly hard to hit that on pokemon thus the gimmicky value difference.

Regraded? How do they get the cards out?
if I regrade, I basically have to pull the card out the slab or crack the slab..idk why i said pull lol. So basically, just crack slab, and send it back. Also some grading services offer a service where you can send them the graded card and they can crack it for you, but i have heard VERy poor reviews on people doing that bc they think grading services are bias and wont give you a psa 10 if you sent them your bgs 9.5..they will just say, 'hey its not a PSA 10 Sorry' and send it back.

so sgc has two tens? that doesnt make much sense to me, why have a black ten and then a gold ten?
Yeahhhhh they have a black gem mint 10 and a gold PRISTINE 10 lol so its basically like PSA but they have one level above PSA's Gem Mint 10 which apparently is impossible to get.
@@DKCards so why not have a 9.5, cause 10 is the top, why have a 2nd 10. Like a 10.5
The BGS vs PSA is interesting to me. PSA used to give 10 grades very often. But lately it's been harder to get a 10, but even after the change, it seems to be much easier to be a PSA 10 than a BGS 10. The fact that PSA doesn't have the option of subgrades is a huge red flag to me. It makes sense that so many BGS 9.5 are a 10 in PSA. BGS black label needs to be perfect, while PSA 10 needs to be "almost" perfect.
Yeah i dont konw, I think its been pretty easy ish for me to get 10's when i submit my cards with PSA. The 18 dollar value one has been treating me very very well haha yeah and the fact that PSA doesn't have subgrades is kind of annoying bc you can't tell what the issues are with your cards but its also a bit of a silver lining bc if you have a 10, its a 10, no questions asked. If you go to BGS and they give you a 9.5 or 10 with subgrades that aren't all 10s or something, it kinda already devalues the card a bit. And yeah you are absolutely right, PSA 10's almost perfect ish, BGS, very very perfect lol
@DK Cards thanks for the great reply DK. My opinion is only from the the outside from friends and youtubers lol. Haven't actually graded cards myself yet. Nobody around me takes submissions for graded cards and I'm having a tough time justifying the PSA annual fee if I won't be sending in cards every week/month.
I had a terrible experience with BGS and their customer service. Unfortunate since I like their slabs the best. PSA has always been good to me so I might have to stick with them🤷🏻♂️
Have you thought about CGC? I heard PSA is adapting their AI grading software so it might be worth their cheap and fast grading service.

Yeah BGS took way too long to get back to me. It was actually insane lol I thought they lost my cards or something for a second XD PSA is always the gold standard and probably will be for quite some time to be honest. Best return on value, and just name recognition.

Bro dont be all sour about Beckett just because ur cards weren't perfect. Bgs black labels are the standard for perfection as far as cards go....also cgc pristine 10s are in my eyes just as good
Lol not really sour about the 10 grades by any means. It was more that I felt grading companies in general were a bit of a gimmick when they come up with pristine 10s, gold labels, black labels, quote on quote, perfect cards etc. It just seems to be a way for grading companies to differentiate themselves, the black label, cgc pristine, sgc pristine etc.
I definitely get it though and the hype behind black labels; to give a grade BETTER than a 10 you know? I mean lets be real, if I created a grading company tomorrow, I'd try to do something like that to:
for example: " here's the industry standard gem mint 10, BUT WAIT....HERES THE PERFECT, GOLD LABEL, DK CARDS, BLACK, AND BLUE, 10!" XD
Just when I got so many 10s, I felt just meh about it. A 10 is a 10, but bc of BGS, CGC, SGC etc. Its not just a 10, there's something better, and one side of me felt oh damn...that sucks...and the other side was like...its still a 10 lol so I guess BGS won in making me trying to chase more black labels. But hope that clears it up.
Is the SGC slab the same size as psa and bgs?

Have to ask: Grading is generally for resale, which means SGC or BGS is worth it only if their grading is considered as sellable and accurate as PSA. Per your video, if I have cards that will get a PSA 10, it makes a $$ difference if I send it to BGS and get a 9.5. Even though it’s the same card…have to wonder whether it’d be worth it to crack the BGS 9.5 and send it to PSA…and if you’d get a 10.😂
If your intentions are to resell, definitely stick to PSA, or if you really examine a card and think its flawless, might be a good shout to try and submit to BGS. and yeah, its annoying bc if you do get a BGS 9.5, the value significantly drops compared to a 10. They did try to revamp their grading system to create a 'gem mint 10' but people were pissed bc it basically devalued their 9.5s even more. On top of that BGS is just odd lol weird grading scale
Companys that's are using AI to scan and grade the cards are the future i think

SGC slabs suck. They allow moisture in.
