    Hi Gary, The guy that said you speak too fast could easily slow down his TH-cam playback speed by clicking on the gear wheel at the bottom of the clip and set playback to 0.75. It makes a lot of difference. My excuse for doing this is I am 85 and hard of hearing but I find it helps enormously. Thanks for all your extremely helpful instructions.

Tags added to files can't be searched when stored on a NASDifferent programs are using different name for the same option.

    Gary, another very helpful video. Thanks again.
    Users should not over look how powerful the Notes/Reminders regular search functions are. They will easily find all Notes/Reminds that have "alpha" and/or "gamma" in them, to use Gary's examples. - - - However, there may be Notes/Reminders you don't want found during a search that have "alpha" and/or "gamma". In addition to Gary's points, another value of Tags is that that they will allow you to develop a list of only those Note/Reminders you specify with a Tag, and exclude those other sundry Notes/Reminders.

    Thank you for this very helpful video. I do have a question: How are these new tags different from the old, colored, tags you can see in Finder? I did create a couple of new tags in reminder and they did not show up in the finder app, so I assume they are not the same. Do you know if the finder colored tags will remain the same or will they eventually match the new format? Ok, I guess that's two questions 😊

    Another excellent video; I learn so much from your videos!!!
    Problem: When I’m using Safari on my iPhone, then while in Safari I click the Share Button to add the webpage to a Quick Note, the Note app is not available from the Share menu and it won’t allow me to add ‘Notes’ via the Edit feature. This prevents me from adding a website with #Tags to a new Note or Quick Note. However, if I do the same thing on my iPad then the Notes feature is available by clicking the Share Button.

    Hello Gary,
    I find it alot of work to asign tags manually.
    So I stumbled about this program for windows called tabbles, in which you can autoasign tags to files in specific folders.
    I would find this function very useful.
    Is there a program or a way to do this?

    Thank you very much. You are helping me alot with using my mac more efficiently!

      @macmost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You asked this on another post, here was my respond there: I don't know of any app that does this, but I have never looked for one. Not sure what it does from your description though. If you want to assign the same tag to a bunch of files in a folder, just go to the folder, select all, and assign the tag.

    • @jovar7545
      @jovar7545 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@macmost Hello Gary, I guess it would be a very convenient option to add tags. For example when having a project you could have one folder called Invoices. This folder would then tag #invoices all pdf sheets. Then you could add just select the tag invoices and see all of them. :)

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jovar7545 But if they are already in a folder named Invoices, you can already just go there and see all of them. No need to use tags.

    • @jovar7545
      @jovar7545 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@macmost I have many projects and want to have invoices in the folder of the project, the folder of the month, the year, last year, so on, and all. So lets say I order 5 different materials for my projekt and have them in my invoice folder. All of them get tagged with the "#customer name" and "#invoice". Then I make a smart folder that looks up all invoices from last year and boom. I give that to my Accountant :)
      Maybe I can build a hazel automation for that :)

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jovar7545 Ah, I see. Your previous comment made it sound like you have one Invoices folder. But if you have an invoices folder for each project, then your goal makes more sense. You could use a Folder Action to do it (Automator) but you'd need to apply it to every folder names invoices. I don't see that as being any better than simply tagging the files themselves. If you are creating the files and organizing them, simply tagging them is just a small extra step. Maybe keep it simple and just do it that way? Seems you are trying to automate the part that is already pretty quick and easy.

    To follow up the discussion regarding the nice feature of putting tags on Apple Notes and Reminders, I submitted a suggestion that Apple add a similar feature on iOS and iPadOS to enable the user to put tags on apps. Already there is a feature on the Mac to put tags on files and folders. As an experiment, since I have many different browsers on my Mac, I tried putting the tag “browser” on every browser in my /Applications folder. Oddly enough, I could do this for every browser except for Safari. Is that a bug or a feature in macOS?

    Pretty cool! Thanks for this!
    I'm afraid I've got a question about apple IDs. I've been using a gmail address for my Apple ID for a while, and now I'd like to change it to an iCloud email address. So I used your tutorial on how to change an Apple ID - and in the apple page there it says you can change your Apple ID to an iCloud email. So I thought I was gonna be alright, by just waiting the 30 days for a new icloud to be ready.
    But I keep running into issues. I created a new iCloud email address that has the name that I want, then after waiting the 30 days, I tried registering that icloud email onto my main apple ID so I could use it. But it said the email was already in use.
    So then I went onto the new icloud email and switched its main address to something else so that the icloud email would be secondary, then I could remove the icloud and register it on my main. But the main still says the icloud ID is still in use. Then I tried removing the icloud address there so it wouldn't be used, but I couldn't find a way to remove it.
    I must have a misunderstanding with the process because I'm sure it said you could change any third-party apple ID to an icloud one at any time. Unless there's some catch. In that case I guess I would have to somehow transfer all my info between apple IDs, so I'll have to find out if there's a method for that.
    If you have any idea as to what's going on then that would be great. Thanks so much for all your great videos

    I'm using several Macs all running iCloud and am sharing Notes across all of these machines. Adding tags in Notes on a more modern Mac, running Sequoia, messes things up in Notes running older OS on older Macs. Unfortunately, apple didn't do the right thing, didn't make Notes notes containing tags compatible with earlier versions of Notes. What happens? The Notes notes with tags simply don't show up in Notes on older machines. Not al all! Gone! Shouldn't they have just shown up but with the tags as plaintext? Disappointing.

    Sorry that you can't put tags on notes which are locked !

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right. Because then it would get confusing when those notes don't appear when you search for the tags or view a tag. They can't appear because they are locked and that would reveal information about the contents of the note, which goes against the idea of locking them. So maybe don't use locked notes if you need tags. Remember, your whole Mac account is "locked" and protected by your user account password.

    What if I want to type this pound symbol in notes without it being used as a “tag” ? How do I turn this feature off? This character has been around for centuries before anyone ever called it a “hashtag “ so I think I have the right to use it as I would like. My problem with this is that now my notes are no longer synced between my phone and my Mac, which has an older operating system that cannot be updated any further. I don’t want to have to buy a new computer just because someone changed how Notes works.
