Scotlands Last Wilderness?

- On the coast of Wester Ross lies one of Scotlands wildest areas, a large expanse of roadless mountain and moorland country. this video covers a three-day micro adventure to climb the mountains of Beinn Tarsuinn and A’ Mhaighdean, and a freshwater snorkel in remote Gorm Loch Mor - my first of the year, and it’s REALLY cold! I also have some unfortunate equipment malfunctions again but overall have a wonderful time.

About Me:
Hi and thanks for checking out my videos! I’m Feargus Cooney, a photographer and amateur explorer who has been disappearing into the wilderness for most of my life. It’s my passion and my salvation from the stresses of everyday existence!
The main aim of my excursions/expeditions is to explore the relatively (and occasionally completely) unknown if I can - to get off the beaten path in some way and bring back photography of nature and wilderness.
I’ve been filming my adventures since 1999, though am only a recent addition to using TH-cam as a way of getting the experiences out there. During the COVID-19 pandemic my wife and I made the decision it was time to escape the stress of living far from any real wilderness and moved to northern Scotland, and that’s where most of these videos take place. It’s not as pure and unspoilt as some wilderness areas around the world but it can certainly be remote and wild. I also head off into more ‘pure’ wilderness around the world once or twice a year, and will occasionally add videos from my archive of trips I did in the past where the quality is high enough.
Scotland has made a world of difference to my mental health. The space - and right - to roam here, along with a healthier attitude to freedom of access to nature than I’ve come across in most places I’ve lived has made entering this phase of my life a truly transformative one, raising me out of persistent cycles of depression and stress that have plagued most of my adult life.
I’m passionate about nature and the wilderness and always have been, and I hope to share some of that passion with you.
A WORD OF CAUTION: My videos cover experiences I have had and are not to be taken as guides or recommendations without proper training and experience. I’ve been spending time in the wilderness camping wild and doing the various activities I show for many years, and have made plenty of mistakes while refining my experience and wisdom, some of which could have been very serious. Please seek appropriate training or go with someone more experienced than you before trying risky activities.

For any regular viewers of my channel who may be confused about my rucksack being functional again after falling apart on the previous trip - I actually filmed this video in April 2023 and have been holding off uploading it until now 🙂
wow! That was really great! Really wild and remote location. Amazing video. Thanks a lot for sharing.
Many thanks!
Another fabulous video Feargus. Many thanks for showing this stunning location. VBW 🙏🏻
Cheers Dave 🙂
Stunning 🏴
Thanks!
Hi Fergus, such a pity about the camera not wanting to play ball. But at least you got the video footage, and what stunning views it was. What a place. Thank you as always for sharing your amazing adventure with us all.
All the best
Dave 😀⛰🥾🏕️🏴🏴
My pleasure 🙂
Very beautiful scenes throughout tthe video! 😊
Thank you very much!
Great video. I have a similar housing and I always check for leaks when I use it.
Very sensible! I used to when I started with it but got lazy 😬
I’ve repaired it now but am being very careful!
Magic video Fergus.
Many thanks!
Ooh ouch 😬, that was almost as hard to watch as the ticks in your last video Feargus! I could definitely feel your pain up there on A’Mhaighdean. I hope the lens and camera have survived? When I first saw you getting into the loch with the camera bag I was thinking I was going to ask you how well those bags work as I’ve been thinking of getting one! It looks like it was an amazing trip though, despite the camera woes, and i think the video and the rest of the images makes up for those few missed images 👍
Thanks for the comment. Yes the camera and lens were fine in the end after a few days drying out. The budget case had been no problem before this trip and I'd used it many times, but a weak point got it at the seam. This trip was actually in April 2023 and I repaired the hole last summer but haven't tried using it again yet. I'll be very cautious next time in my pre-dive checks!
Yet another stunning film Feargus...btw you're the only Lochan Snorkler I've ever come across!
Thanks Mike... there's more freshwater mayhem to come this season!
@@feargusc excellent ...can't wait!
Great video as always, been up that most remote mountain quite a few times.
One time didn't own a camera but borrowed a mates, who waited by the tent,
got a 12 shot 360 deg pano, with 35mm film Olmpus Trip camera, from the top
( Slioch to Slioch - on my wall ) All best, look forward to your next adventure.
That sounds like an epic shot!
Superb adventure into the middle of nowhere..stunning scenery that I could only dream of photographing...even though you were cold the under water scenes were great...hope your camera is OK, as a Canon user for over 40 years they are normally tough cameras...though its not great being unable to photograph what's in front of you...its like the good old days of film and......you forget to put the film in the camera....many thanks and best wishes
Haha, yes the days of film were a nightmare. Canon are great and I've always used them to, but they're not built like action cameras!
Great video, I hope your camera is ok, take care!!
Thanks very much. Yes the camera is all good now :)
Your making me jealous Feargus it looked brilliant. We were up at loch Maree a couple of years ago and we will definitely be back but at present we’re stuck because Eileen my partner has broken her leg and foot in 4 places putting the bins out would you believe it. So watching this is a good wee bit of therapy for me. Thanks for sharing your adventures.Cheers James
Ow, that's really unfortunate. I hope Eileen has an uneventful recovery and you can get back out soon :)
@@feargusc it’s already been 2 months but we’ve been told that it will take a year to recover .We had planned a road trip through Europe to Bosnia for a couple of months in our van which is were we should be right now but had to cancel for now . We’re really enjoying your channel , your knowledge of your surroundings is fantastic.
@@jameskyle8092 That's a real shame. Maybe try kayaking or similar? Thanks for the kind words!
Wow!! Amazing video. Thanks for sharing. Sub & 👍
Thank you!
Nice video. Loved it. I summit camped this one and had the same conditions and know exactly what you mean, i think I took that picture but not with a pro camera like yours. You will get it. ive been itching to do this from poolewe for a while again./
Yea it’s so epic. I’ve marked in the calendar when the sun will be in the same position later in the year 🙂
@@feargusc oooo yaa
Great vid! How thick was your wetsuit? Thanks.
Not very - 3 or 4 mil. It’s a trade off between insulation and weight/volume.
You could well have been the first person to snorkel in lochan fada! Shame about the camera-hopefully it’ll dry out
That’s what makes it so appealing to me 🙂.
Indeed the camera lens was fine after a few days drying on the windowsill.
