Hope you enjoy this tough but enjoyable adventure into the Fisherfield.. plenty more adventures coming in the next few weeks 😁 Thanks for watching - James 🏔
Accompanied with my friend Ian S ; we completed the Summit of A'Mhaighdean in very similar conditions from Dundonnell & Shenevall , via Sail Liath 954m.We campled at Fuar Loch Mor for 2-nights ; taking in A'Mhaighdean & Beinn Tharsuinn Chaol and returning to our wonderful pitch at Fuar Loch Mor. The views from A'Mhaighdean, are exactly as I remember it in 1976 aged 17 !!! We completed our walk along the banks of Loch Maree, in front of Slioch to Kinlochewe. The experience was stunning ; and one that we "Dine-Out On". It's well worth the effort !!!! 🙂
Brought back great memories. I went in from Loch A’Bhraoin with the intention of bivvying. However I made good progress over Beinn Tarsuinn, Ruadh Stac mor and A’Mheadhoin ....where I hoped to bivvy. However I made such good progress, the weather was superb and it was in mid June so virtually no darkness. Coming off A’ Mheadhoin at 8 pm I decided to try making it back to the car which I reached at 1.30 am. A wonderful day . Thanks for all your super videos....easily the best of all I’ve watched.
brilliant 10 out of 10, what weather and solitude. I think A'Mhaighdean is my favourite munro. the two Corbetts are wonderful. I did the Corbetts with a friend Alan, who I met at Rattagan, he continued over to Letterewe to walk the Corbetts. Again a beautiful quiet area with golden eagles and horses.
A great video it brought back so many great memories from 32 years ago when I walked it from the North and camped on A'Mhaighdean for the sunset. A magical experience
Hi James. I moved to Inverness only last month from Birmingham. I bivvied last night on the summit of A' Mhaighdean and was rewarded this morning with a cloud inversion. Unbelievable weather and a long walk out back to Poolewe. Love the vids.
Top marks your videos are excellent. I especially enjoyed this one as Fisherfield Forest is to me a very special place where I have enjoyed many fine adventures and have many more to do.
Well done James, that was absolutely stunning. Got to say, you really pick the weather. Amazing views, great commentary and I'm having difficulty deciding if the views in your Skye videos are better or not?? Anyway, both were brilliant as far as I'm concerned. Well done, and keep it up. Cheers, Ozzy. PS, wish I lived a bit closer rather than 450 miles south, I'd be amongst it every day off work.😂
Very well done James. Both in getting round that circuit in a oner and also for the excellent film recording it all. Your film making is really second to none of all the folks making these type of Munro films. Dead jammy with the weather once again I see. I've had 5 trips into these munros over the years to bag them all twice and haven't had any views quite like that. The sunset from A' Mhaighdean really was the icing on the cake. Cheers!
Another cracking video James, quite a place the Fisherfield, llovely remote country. If you get a chance I would certainly recommend the Dearg’s, I combined with a camp on Beinn a' Chaisgein Mor on a circular from little Gruinard bay. cheers Paul
Super video James. What a great two days you had in what is a truly remote area. Certainly not a place for mishaps. The conditions, although dry, looked demanding, but you were rewarded with superb views, particularly the one from the summit of A’Mhaighdean, one of the prized Munro summits. I know from my trip into that group, the sense of remoteness is palpable, but exciting. Thank you again for sharing the video.
4.15 I bet that water tastes good. I`m watching this sat in a boiler house control room in Essex, thinking one day I`ll have a walking holiday in the Hihglands but being 70years old I`m probaly not up to venturing as far as you.
Awesome hike - thank you ever so much for taking us with you, James! I couldn‘t believe you had no issues with the midges. It was even hard enough without them I think. Looking forward to your next adventure, kind regards, Martin.
That was absolutely amazing James. What a video. Plus kept me busy as am stuck in hospital the now. Rewatching a lot of your videos and others to keep me busy as am missing getting up the mountains the now. Can't wait to see your next video. Take care Alan
Amazing expedition and photography James. Some of the wide shots are jaw dropping…..it’s sometimes hard to comprehend we have this on our smallish island!
Superb trip. Thank you for the memories, great commentary and camerawork. I also approached from the south in 2019 in a similar heat wave and was too afraid of running out of water to camp on top of A'Mhaighdean, so I camped at the bealach before Beinn Tarsunn. Its a 10/10 for me too. A'Mhaighdean without a doubt is the finest view of any Munro.
I can’t get over that view from A' Mhaighdean, your video has done it justice, amazing James! Great weather on Skye and the Fisherfield Forest, you had great luck 👏
Walked fisherfield a number of years ago. Amazing place and bothy was great also. Found a trickle for water coming off.... Beinn Tarsuinn. Spectacular round. Well done mate! 👍
Brilliant James, I was in the area last year. Walked in from Kinlochewe via Slioch in amazing weather, and camped on the shores of Loch Fada, hoping to summiting Beinn Tarsuinn and A'Mhaighdean the next day. The weather turned dramatically, and we got up Beinn Tarsuinn in 50 mph sideways rain but abandoned the idea of A'Mhaighdean (or Armaggedon, as we called it) in favour of getting back to our camp before walking out in lovely weather again the next day. I keep saying I'll go back and get the rest of the Fisherfield Munros.
Good video, James, Fisherfield was my last wild camping trip, (many years ago) but it pops into my mind most days. many thanks for sharing as it brought back many happy memories. Stay young. ATB
This video appeared in my feed and I really enjoyed it. I’ve subscribed now. I’ve only climbed 13 of the Cairngorm Munros so far as it’s a long way from Kent but I’ve got so many routes planned. Whenever I go out I always do multiday trips and wildcamp as it’s the best way to do it. I’ll watch your other videos now for certain. Thanks!
Well done James , this is my next munros on my list so it was good to to see your route from Kinlochewe , i did An Tealach on Monday and the weather was misty all day , i did the Fannichs at the weekend and all i could see was the pinnacles so i was really looking forward to that , oh well Scottish weather for you .This has to be the best vid that you have done and the sunsets on the west have to the best , take care and looking forward to your next journey.👍
Hope you get good weather for them 😁 Still to do An Teallach so looking forward to that, Scottish Weather has been a nightmare recently 😂 Cheers, James
Never got round to the Fisherfield Hills which was a shame but your efforts was worth the watch and a pleasure being with you for every footsteps. Thank you as always James.
What an adventure! I'd agree with you about it being the best viewpoint... Loved the moments where you just let us hear the silence of the Fisherfield wilderness. And pleased to hear you might take us up some Corbetts in future - those two are wonderful!
Wild camp atop A'Mhaighdean. Wow! Since the demotion of Beinn a' Chlaidheimh it makes sense to start from Incheril. I've watched a few vlogs about the Fisherfields recently and can see the sense in it. Thanks for another wonderful video. Slange!
Brilliant vid.. Some route that one , been looking at alternative routes to the Walkhighlands one.. The drop and rise between your munros 3 to 4 looks hard , looks crazy on a map , I had thought about it so I'm glad to see you do it first 👍😅
What an amazing adventure. To drink 7-8 litres of water the sweet must have been pouring off you. How much did your tent weigh and your pack overall please. Your camera skills are amazing. I really felt I was walking alongside you on that epic trek.
Magnificent mate did these many years ago potty the 6th peak was demoted as it’s a nice mountain you captured the spirit of these hills well what fantastic views excellent cheers
Fantastic video and adventure, brought back so many memories of two wildcamps on my trips to Fisherfield. It might have been tough but that sunset will be a life long memory...
Beautiful brother, beluga lagoon music beautiful 🙂!Subbed ! Considering going for this route next week... conditions don't look great thoo... any tips/warnings? Thanks 🙂!
Such a lovely area isn't it. The remoteness is quite scary at times. Quite fancy biking in from kinlochewe when I stay there in next few weeks. Hope weather turns good again.
That was fabulous, particularly the ligt you had on day 1. That NW ridge of A'Mhaghdean is utterly stunning to look at and I have yet to do it - definitely on my bucket list. Just one correction to your translation. Beinn Tarsuinn means Transverse, (not Transfers,) Hill, i.e a hill that lines itself at right angles to the general hill lines around. In this case it is actually a great crossover from Mulloch Coire Mhic Fhearchair to A' Mhaghdean, but in general Beinn Tarsuinns are a bit of a pain in the way they line up with the ridges around.
Couldn't wait for this James. Stunning. Lucky enough to do this twice many years ago. I'm so enjoying your Munro journey and revisiting some wonderful places with you.
Fantastic video James. Let me know the next time you are going out so I will be guaranteed good weather 😆. I haven't done these yet but this was exactly the way I was planning on doing them. Was the track pretty easy to cycle in surface wise?
Thank you 😁 haha I’m heading out tomorrow, slightly unpredictable forecast but hoping for a good day! It was a tough round but think its the best way to do them.. the surface was fine but I did a bit of pushing uphill, amazing on the way out though 😁 Enjoy when you come to do them, Cheers, James
Hey - thank you for the videos, and congrats on the amazing 200 in your Skye series! If possible, could you please explain how you decide what's safe to drink, and what equipment/tablets you use to help disinfect the water? I'm a pretty new hiker myself but I've yet to drink from natural sources and I'm not too sure on what practices I should be doing to help keep myself safe.
Thank you 😁 I use a Katadyn water filter, I basically drink out of any running water source, usually fill up as high up as possible, but I have also had water from stagnant pools and not got sick.. Cheers, James
James! what can I say! absolutely epic! just watched with a coffee and that looked like a tough shift....I have looked at several options for these and still haven't made my mind up which way to go? like you I like the idea of using the bike so I may copy you. Did you plot your own route or is there one available on GPX? Absolutely stunning weather you got and the views on all the tops looked amazing. Water is obviously a big consideration so that's good to know. Yeah your route looks good........Im a big copy cat! lol. thanks mate and again Fantastic!!!! Paul
Thanks Paul 😁 tough but enjoyable round.. I plotted my own GPX with some inspiration from someone I know, send me an email Paul and I can send you over a rough GPX of the route I took.. the bike helps a lot! Fantastic place.. hope we get some decent weather soon!! My email is : scottishmunrojourney@hotmail.com Cheers, James
Amazing weather for an amazing trip. The Fisherfield is something else. It’s interesting that the more recently preferred approach now seems to be from Kinlochewe since the demotion of Beinn a’Chlaidheimh. The round from Shenevall is probably easier, although it involves the river crossing which, if in spate would be very difficult. When you go back to do the Corbetts in the Fisherfield I do recommend a crossing of the area from Dundonnell to Poolewe. We did it over six days, stopping 2 nights at Shenavall and Carn Mor. It is an amazing Exped. Thanks for sharing.
I've done a few trips to Scotland. Knoydart and Skye etc. But watching your films I'm super jealous. Great job. They look fantastic. I'm basically Jealous of the fact you get in so often. Living down south of England isn't very helpful 😂. Fantastic looking trip as always, 👍
Wonderful video, stunning views. I agree it is most definitely a place to linger if the weather is kind. I most recently walked in the way your went and enjoyed good weather and great views. I have also come in from Poolewe by foot. As you like biking I can recommend that route too as I noticed plenty riding in. Another idea I have been brewing is the possibility of biking in from Dundonnel, camping or staying at the bothy at Sheneval taking in some/all of the tops and then biking out to Poolewe. That would make an excellent trip I would say. I would agree with you that A’Mhaighdean is probably my favourite Munro, particularly for its remoteness and the views from it. Long may the Fisherfield remain the wilderness it surely is.
Looks fantastic. Would love to see a video of your gear/packing list for a multi-day expedition out. Absolutely want to do something similar, but just don't know how light/heavy to make it.
James, my friend - what a campsite that was, and all to yourself, eh? Just as well you got it in before the monsoon season came upon us, too! And if I may say, the benefits of all that climbing on Skye are plain to see - as from the back at least, your hips, bum and thighs are a different shape from how there were before. If you weren't spoken for already, you'd have them queuing right around the block! Well done; hope your subsequent trips aren't too damp.
Superb again James but be careful now as you'll be accused of digital littering again 😊 fantastic trip, I'll hopefully make it there on my Munro journey although I might split it into 3 days if I got the right weather. window. Look forward to your next outing.
Hi James, please can you tell me what brand/model your sleeping mat is? I'm trying to find something lightweight yet comfortable to sleep on, that doesn't cost a million pounds and wondered which one you had after seeing this video 👌👍 thank you 😊
@@ScottishMunroJourneythanks for the recommendation James, I bought one a few weeks ago & got to use it wild camping last night! Brilliant sleep compared to my last mat! 👌👏
Great video James. I did those from Kinlochewe as well and camped at Beinn Tarsuinn. The views are brilliant. I also had great weather, wouldn’t like to do it in anything less tbh, very remote.
Please re-think your attitude to the hills. You’re not there to ‘smash’ them. You’re there to appreciate, respect and love them. These are special & spiritual places. Don’t approach them as tourists.
@@neilmacdonald5064 this might be the first video of mine you have watched. I respect the mountains more than most, these videos are made to show the amazing scenery we have in Scotland. That being said the 282 Munros is a challenge so its only natural to want to achieve the end goal 👍
Hope you enjoy this tough but enjoyable adventure into the Fisherfield.. plenty more adventures coming in the next few weeks 😁 Thanks for watching - James 🏔

Very proud to call this my home area, can't wait to get back home and get into the mountains again.

It is a stunning place - I will be doing a full kit video near the end of the year 😁
Incredible
See when it’s really hot like that do you never go for a dip in the lochs ? That heat would dry you off in no time . The lochs look beautiful so clear
I have had a few dips, usually too busy to stop for that long - maybe I am filming less I might do more 😂
@@ScottishMunroJourney well that’s true James your filming on these adventures is top quality 👌
Epic!
Well done,mate fare play
Should have taken a hat dude. I forgot mine in Affric earlier in year and definitely got sun stroke. Lovely pics
Definitely 😂 it was a great trip
The weather is impossible. I never had a day like that
Nicely done James!👍Can’t have been easy carrying the extra gear in the heat. That flex pump looks a great bit of kit! Atb Chris
Thank you, yes it is very handy 😂
Great video. I always notice when I am in the Uk that hardly anyone wears hats when hiking. Coming from Australia I find that hard to understand.
Haha we rarely get much sunshine I suppose 😂
James, my friend - what a campsite that was, and all to yourself, eh? Just as well you got it in before the monsoon season came upon us, too! And if I may say, the benefits of all that climbing on Skye are plain to see - as from the back at least, your hips, bum and thighs are a different shape from how there were before. If you weren't spoken for already, you'd have them queuing right around the block! Well done; hope your subsequent trips aren't too damp.
Brilliant James great footage of a stunning mountain range still to do this range myself but looking forward to getting them done ATB Ally 👍
Thank you & enjoy when you do them 😁 James
Where is the summit pitch? 😅😳😳😳👀👀👀 Grey video 💪 luved it
Thank you 😁 haha opted for the spacious pitch 😂
Have you considered bivvying when the forecast is dry? Saves a lot of weight not having to carry a tent
Yes definitely, will probably invest in a bivvy bag in the future 😁
Superb again James but be careful now as you'll be accused of digital littering again 😊 fantastic trip, I'll hopefully make it there on my Munro journey although I might split it into 3 days if I got the right weather. window. Look forward to your next outing.
Haha don’t want to be doing that 😂 its some place.. best to take your time and split it over a few day, enjoy! James
What was the millage car to camp spot mate
Around about 11/12 miles 😁
What rout did you take, from the bothy?
@@walkinghikingscotland no went from in from Incheril near Kinlochewe 😁
Thanks mate
Hi James, please can you tell me what brand/model your sleeping mat is? I'm trying to find something lightweight yet comfortable to sleep on, that doesn't cost a million pounds and wondered which one you had after seeing this video 👌👍 thank you 😊
Hi there, its the Big Agnes Rapide SL - Long/Wide 😁 not the most lightweight but it is very comfy! Loads of good reviews on TH-cam 😁 Cheers, James
@@ScottishMunroJourney fab, thanks James - will look that up 👌
@@ScottishMunroJourneythanks for the recommendation James, I bought one a few weeks ago & got to use it wild camping last night! Brilliant sleep compared to my last mat! 👌👏
Someone treated themselves to a new mug I see 😁
I was Jelous of yours 😂👍
@@ScottishMunroJourney Looked a perfect trip bud. Be prepared to get up that way again!
Great video James. I did those from Kinlochewe as well and camped at Beinn Tarsuinn. The views are brilliant. I also had great weather, wouldn’t like to do it in anything less tbh, very remote.
Hero
when are you going back for An Teallach
I like to think you’re listening to techno on your headphones
Mainly podcasts (and techno) 😂
Great video, I will be subscribing. But wow that accent man rings my ears 😅
Thanks, sadly stuck with it unfortunately 🤣
Please re-think your attitude to the hills. You’re not there to ‘smash’ them. You’re there to appreciate, respect and love them. These are special & spiritual places. Don’t approach them as tourists.
@@neilmacdonald5064 this might be the first video of mine you have watched. I respect the mountains more than most, these videos are made to show the amazing scenery we have in Scotland. That being said the 282 Munros is a challenge so its only natural to want to achieve the end goal 👍
Wonderful scenery and it must have been worth it. One dit came to mind. "Stop your greetin jock." no offence.
Haha I shouldn’t have moaned really 😂 it was a fantastic place..
