ok so..... the Apple Watch is already insanely expensive. Then you have to pay an extra few THOUSAND dollars for a leather wrist strap, and even then you have to hope and pray that the thing fits you? Simply put... its useless to pay that much money for a leather strap. with tat money I can buy a far more luxurious car heck I can even start my own business. And of course it's limited because not everyone will be able to afford it or even bother to buy it. And what happens if said watch is stolen? You lose a 2000 dollar piece of leather. Money wasted. I am sorry for the rant but I just had to put it out there. Awesome video by the way and rather support dbrand
@@RichardServello Actually, it’s not stupidly overpriced, at least not for the target market they are aiming it at. Pricing for luxury goods works much different by necessity then products aimed at the lower to middle class buyers. While you or I might look at it and say that’s too much to pay (at least at this time, talk to me later if I ever win the big jackpot in the lottery) but people with lots of money won’t buy such items unless they are high priced. The reason for this is that they want to be able to buy products that not just any person could afford to buy. This is part of a luxury brand’s value perception which effects that brand’s actual value. By having such a high market vs the actually cost to make the product, it signals to the luxury buyer that product is premium product that not just anyone can own. If they priced the goods closer to manufacturing cost then they signal that it’s just a mass market product that average masses might be buying and that’s not what luxury goods buyers want as much as you (whom I assume to be a middle class buyer) might like it. By costing thousands of dollars, the Hermes version of the Apple Watch signals to outside observer that this a very high quality product and that the owner has money. The other thing to know about Hermes leather products is that they really are trully better made products then your typical cheaper leather items so you;’d be paying more then cheaper leather watch bands sell for anyways even it not in the four digits. The problem with selling Hermes leather goods at closer to cost is that it while it makes the product more appealing to middle class customers who are more price sensitive these are typciallt one time buyers while they rich buyers are loyal customers and not price sensitive and can afford to have every color/style of watch band Hermes makes, unlike you or I who would only maybe buy one of these even at a lower smaller margin cost. This is why luxury brands like Gucci and Versace charge as much as they do for their leather handbags because it creates the perception among their target female audience/buyers (and their rich husbands/boyfriends buying them as gifts) they are worth as much as they are perceived to be be and perception counts here more then actually manufacture cost to the target buyer. If they charged only moderate markup over the actual manufacturing cost they would also run the risk of still being too pricy for the middle class market market yet too low in price for a majority of the rich buyers (thus reducing the perceived value to them) and thus leaving them with too small a market to keep them afloat at such lower margins. Even if we could afford the lower priced, how many are we gonna buy loaf the specific brand over our lifetime vs a rich person who can own every one and keep buying every future model/design in the never ending quest to always be on top of fashion trends. So yes, you might view them as “stupidly overpriced” at your income level but their not actually given you are not the target market. Their are less expensive leather Apple Watch bands out their for the middle class masses that aren’t horrible but for Hermes level craftsmanship your going to pay regardless of how much markup they charge, unless you personally know a craft leather maker who will make you a Apple Watch compatible watch band much closer to cost.
You rarely see billionaires buy such overpriced stuff, It's always the average people who buy these expensive items and blow up their budget just to pretend they're rich
It’s almost impossible to talk about “value” across income brackets. It never goes well and will never be resolved. Even talking to people who prefer buying generic products like toilet paper when they ask you why you’re wasting money on Charmin. From comic books to sport cars to eyeglasses to Apple Watches, products are “worth” what the people who buy them are willing to pay.
That absolutely works. Although doesn't too. Cars aren't the same as some fashion brand clothing. A good quality shirt might cost £45. Yet the same quality with a certain fashion brand on the front will cost £150. Yes cars cost more but you can absolutely feel/hear/appreciate the quality.
