I think this concert was 2001 so Bruce was 43 at the time. Now at age 62 he is as energetic as then and better shape than most of us younger fans. Bruce is awesome. Multitalent. Professional airline pilot, national level fencer, historian, beer brewer, author and has had his own radio show. He's also a surviver of cancer tumor on 2015. University of Helsinki promoted he for honorary philosophy doctorate 2015. He has also doctorate to Queen Mary University of London. And is a honorary citizen of Sarajevo. Fine man.
He was 43 at the time. I was 22 and I was at this concert. Travelled 1600 km from New Hamburg (Southern Brazil, near Porto Alegre) to Rio de Janeiro in a bus full of metalheads to see Rob Halford and Iron Maiden. And I just realized I am 41 now... almost the age of Bruce Dickinson in this concert. (I look younger, but certainly not as fit)
Tbh, I have massive respect for you south american fans. You guys are fucking crazy. And I am from a hard rock town in Sweden, but there are NO fans as fucking nuts (in a good way) as you south american fans.

Fear of the dark only comes in at 2nd because of Rime... Million percent agree. It's an epic tale and poem, brought to life in a way only the Irons can. 666 IS my favourite performance of Rime.. to me Bruce only improved with age. Epic.
Great reaction - one of my favourite live bands - Iron Maiden always delivers 110% to their fans . I saw them last year and they are still energetic and awesome - and who doesn't get the chills hearing the crowd chant along like that. The fans in Rio are a notch above what we normally see in North America - so much passion for their Maiden. I've been to South America and it is common to see fans who don't even know how to speak english - learn the lyrics phonetically so they can sing along. Great reaction!
i believe they were in their 40s at the time of this concert. they're still going in their 60s touring and making new music. these guys are just metal machines.
The most loyal fans are those for Iron Maiden.. The lead singer Bruce also is the bands pilot and on his days away from touring, he works for an international airport.... Great reaction!!!!!
Last September I turned 50. Very proud to say I was born the same year as Iron Maiden. Only Steve Harris (bass and composer) is there from the very beggining. He wrote this out of his true life dark fearing soul. Liked and subbed. Big love from Spain. Edit: Done any Nightwish yet?
The Clansman from that concert is one of the best performances ever witnessed in heavy metal. But frankly, the whole Rock in Rio was. They took every other band to school.
Ah Maiden are so good live, a must see. They're in their sixties now, but man they still kick ass on stage. I've seen them about 5 or 6 times now over the years and they've never dissapointed me. The crowds are always amazing too 😁 oh they also have this huge inflatable Eddy (their mascot) that looms over the stage at some point in their show. Last time I saw them they brought an airplane on stage 😲. As for song suggestions: Hallowed be thy name, waited years, the Trooper, Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Number of the Beast.
300k at this concert alone!...theyre all in their 40's around this time, 20 years later,in their 60's, theyll still kick your ass onstage...Iron Maiden plays in countries other bands havent even heard of and the fans still know the words to EVERY.SINGLE.SONG!
What always amazes more than the size of the crowd (250,000) but that they do not speak English as their first language. This is in Brazil and most of them speak Portuguese. Welcome to the rabbit hole that is Iron Maiden. 39 albums in 40 years. More video albums than you can count. The albums from the early 80's starting with 3 and going thru the early 90's were at their peak. Then Adrian and Bruce left the band. In 2001 Bruce and Adrian came back, they kept replacement guitarist Janick and came out with a string of albums in the early 2000's to this day that mirror their best work in the 80's. Nice reaction. Yeah the musicianship of these guys is epic. Especially live, they are near flawless. And Bruce is one of the best singers ever, especially in the metal genre. My advice except for this song, is to listen and react to the originals first, then the live versions of the songs. Always have a separate window for the lyrics or a with lyrics version of the song going so you can appreciate the amazing song writing too. Notable songs: Hallowed be Thy Name, Number of the Beast, Run to the Hills, 22 Acacia Avenue, The Prisoner, Children of the Damned, The Trooper, Sill Life, Flight of Icarus, Aces High, Powerslave, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Revelations, 2 Minutes to Midnight, Die with your boots on, Wasted Years, Can I play with Madness, Stranger in a Strange Land, Alexander the Great and so many more, that is just from a few albums in the 80's. And I am missing so many good songs that are not famous. Plus Maiden made their name without Radio play time as most commercial outlets were afraid to play their music because Evangelical Christians would protest and boycott their stations if they did. So thruout their career they had little support from commercial radio stations and only minor support from MTV due to Head Bangers Ball. Voted best live band to see recently and greated Heavy Metal Band as well. I have to agree. Just look for their contemporaries from the late 70's and early 80's. They are playing mostly at county and state fairs and small venue bars as classic acts with no new music. Iron Maiden is still putting out relevant music for the last 20 years. Enjoy the trip, we always appreciate it when a new listener to Iron Maiden understands the amazing songs and gets the enjoyment we once did when we heard it for the first time. Chris
I was lucky enough to see them headline a music festival here in the U.K back in the mid 2000's after being brought up with their music playing in our house as a child and it was amazing.
When he asked them to sing along he did it in a really high pitch, that was to help get him ready to sing the next verse by getting his vocal tools ready
Man, I was supposed to be there. I grew up in Brazil, and I was a teenager during this Rick in Rio festival. I was going to go with some friends, but my parents found out.....and that was the end of that.

About something like 250000 people in that crowd signing every damn word! They have an amazing catalogue. Please keep going! As for Bruce, well, he had his 62nd birthday recently and to celebrate he climed on a building. Fencing is his love though when it comes to sports.
Bruce still runs across the stage, and they still play 2 hour shows. They usually have some of their harder/faster songs at the end of the show, like Run to the Hills, and he's out there with more energy left than people a third of his age (he's 65 now). You've gotta see them live - they're still TOP of their game.
