Same here! Saw them twice in Houston in the past 5 years with my dad and each time they played this we lost our shit!!! And my dad is 72!!! 🤘🤘 Up The Irons!!!!!
Iron Maiden will be in Auckland, New Zealand, at the Spark Arena, on 16 Sep 2024. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at 11am. Time for you to find out for yourself what a live Iron Maiden show is like. Enjoy!
If you get the chance to see them live, don’t think about it, just go! It’s an awesome experience you’ll never forget. Lost count how many times I’ve seen them, way more than any other band, and they always bring their A game… and so the the audience. It’s a million times better in person than watching videos. Up the Irons 🤘🏼
Yeah, i agree 100% =) It's pretty obvious Andrew hasn't been to a live Iron Maiden show, but that just makes it more fun to tell him just how much he HAS to see them live =D
I've had the pleasure of seeing them live twice. Once on the No Prayer for the Dying tour (with Anthrax opening), and another doing a Best Of tour with Dio and Motorhead. Always an incredible live experience. I highly suggest picking up the "Live After Death" and "Maiden England" live video/DVDs because these are Maiden in their live show prime (in my humble opinion).
Been listening to Maiden, since i was a Young boy. Im now 47, and i still Think that its one of best bands EVER. IF not THE best! Can still bring tears to my eye´s Plc keep dooing reweiws of ther Music.. soooo mutch brilliant stuff
One thing I love about Nicko and his live fills, it shows how much a jazzy drummer he is… iirc he started off as a jazz drummer, but “I always hit the drums hard” and ended up playing in rock bands… but his little improvs always make me think of those live jazz bands that kind of just jam and improv on the fly, those fills aren’t how they were in the studio, he just goes with a feeling on that particular night, and I guess “jazzes it up”. And that switch to a half time galloping beat is very much a trademark of Maiden (another notable occasion is the pre-chorus and second half of the solos section in 2 Minutes To Midnight)… and it’s cool how they wait until the second chorus to drop it in, so you don’t see it coming.
Saw Maiden live last year, for my first time. It's a religious experience to sing the words "Fear of the Dark" in a stadium packed with thousands of people.
Did they still play ‘look on the bright side of life’ by Ian idle after the show ? Always love singing and dancing along with half a stadium of other metal heads to that 😂
@@firefox3187 Yes. That is always the outro they play when the lights come up after the show. Just like the intro is always Doctor Doctor. That song lets everyone know it's time to get to your seats the show is gonna start.
Maiden are calling you to visit them next September in Auckland. You will have to learn the words for this 😁 May I recommend When The Wild Wind Blows (En Vivo!)
when you watch a bit closer once the cameras are on the audience. you can see it looks like its raining. it actually not. its all the sweat from the audience thats hanging over the whole crowd like a mist. thats how humid and hot it was when this show took place. add in over 250.000 people screaming, singing along to everything possible. i keep saying it again and again. Forget live after death or any other Maiden show or recording. for me this is their best live show ever. and it should be listend and seen to full from front to back.
brazilian crowds that time was the best of the world. About the "raining", my father went to this show and he always remember that when the crowd starts to jump, the sand of the ground began to rise and he had to move away to breed. So this thing in the air is actually sand!

Ah... Love this track. I met Nicko in 2005 at a drum clinic in Exeter here in the UK. Super nice guy and also really funny. Of course awesome drummer also...

Andrew, they are playing in New Zealand in 2024, Auckland in fact. You have to be there. I know 1 show is not enough fir all NZ, but it's a must. Only death is a viable excuse to not be there. It will change yer life 🤘🏻🇬🇧🖤
2:14 yeah, south american crowds are awesome. No question. Rock in Rio that year was like 500.000 people live. I am a bit jealous that i wasn't there, i admit but... I promise you that even northern european crowds sing along to most songs at live Iron Maiden events. Also, i guarantee that ANY crowd at ANY Iron Maiden concert anywhere in the world will sing their lungs out for Fear of the Dark =)
I think you should react to Iron Maiden "Sign of the cross" Rock In Rio 2001! That one is really impressive about drums! I'm sure your community will be agree much with me!
Today Bruce use the stairs at the backsite of the stage. He is old, now. 😉 But juming, running and singing at the same time is still the standart. Maybe you check some newer stuff. Played at this European Tour 2023. Was a blast, at hot. 🥳
Thank you for this Andy! And thank you for all your reaction videos. Those Black Sabbath vids hokked me in. You were adorable :D I've Been listening to metal since mid 80's when I was 10 and your analysis of the drumming gives so much more perspective in these songs on top of what hundreds of times listening (and even sometimes playing) these masterpieces already gave to me. You are doing awesome job!
Amazing reaction, Fear of the Dark is one of my favorite song and will stay memorable as when my grandmother was sick and in bed, she used to whistle the intro when I was in my room listening to Maiden while studying. Anyway, you should listen to Where Eagles Dare, some sick drumming in this song.
Iron Maiden, best live performers no matter what the genre lol, simple as that. Only 1 live performance in my 48 years on this planet had a shot... The Prodigy in the 90's in Stockholm Sweden :) The beat change ups is what made me a fan in the 80's.
Fine reaction. As an old huge fan, I'd say that Maiden is perfection! And, if you want any suggestions of their songs to react to: "Aces High"; "Powerslave"; "The writing on the wall"; "The number of the beast"; "The flight of Icarus"; "Alexander the great" (if you can get it, live version from this year's tour; if you can't, then the studio version).
Have you watched Nicko's videos of when he describes his tour kit (titled Nicko's new drums - The Future Past)? He put one out about 4 months ago and he's done others. I m not a drummer but found them very interesting because Nicko is such a cool guy.
4:50 Ref crisp backbeats; Nicko holds his left stick backwards so he gets even more powerful hits. It's hard to see, but when the camera is up in his face you can sometimes see the difference between his sticks. It's easier to see in more recent higher quality recordings, especially videos where he's being recorded playing at local festivals with smaller bands or doing clinics etc.
I have an awesome tattoo from a guy called Chris Block - I wonder if he's a Maiden fan 🤔 Nico is such a great drummer and he's always looking like has so much fun.
Seen them live 10+ times, the last time was at Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg Sweden together with 56.000 other awesome brothers and sisters in 2021 (i bought the tickets in 2018, the concert was supposed to be in early summer 2019, and it was post-poned two times because of the global coof-scare) The band knocked it so far out of the park that night that i think Elon asked them how to launch rockets. I was so emotional about half-way through that i just sat there with a tear on my cheek wondering if this was really happening =) Partially because of the songs they decided to present to us Swedes, and the way they delivered them, of course, but DUDE! I wasn't prepared!
Just to say in january this year the drummer, Nicko Mcbrain who's 71 was partially paralyzed after a major stroke this year, and says he's getting better, and hoping to get back to dumming soon,
Hi! Lovely video as usual! Since you seem to be on a Maiden streak, would you do at some point a Clive Burr video as well (the drummer for their first three records, including Number of the beast)? Not necessarily a comparison with Nicko, just to hear your opinion on him as well... Iron Maiden are my favorite metal band, and I love Nicko, however (as a non-drummer) I sometimes would prefer less fills (I know drummers will probably kill me for this opinion, sorry!), and I really like Clive Burr drumming in the studio albums!
Have you noticed that Nicko is using stick in his left hand up side down? I'm not a drummer but does is impact to sound? I believe so. How many drummers play like this? Is it popular way?
So happy to see that you can appreciate the fact that even though the drumming is great, this band is so much more than it's drummer. If you watch interviews with Nikko, you will see that he is completly humble in his role, and overall, a fantastically happy human being😋
Nicko is fantastic, but I still prefer Clive Burr. He had a heavier and more precise grip. The first three albums are the essence of Iron Maiden and Clive played brilliantly. The best heavy metal drummer. Sadly gone so soon. Rip. Up the Irons!
Fear Of The Dark sounds great live, but the album the studio version is from is what made me fall out of love with Maiden's music. For me, it's when they started running out of ideas and every new song just sounded like a worse version of material they'd already done on previous albums.
