Revisions / Clarifications:
I was wrong about what the manual says, I was just reading the instructions step by step however in another section it does encourage you to install a wooden frame if the following is true...
( This is a direct quote from the Maxxair Fan manual )
"The MAXXFAN is designed for a minimum roof thickness of 50mm to a maximum of 110mm. If your roof thickness is less than 50mm, build additional thickness at the ceiling opening using wood or other suitable material."
A typical roof's metal in between between 22-29 gauges, I couldn't find the exact gauge of a Promaster roof on Google.
So technically according to the instructions I am supposed to add a wooden frame.
Do I regret not doing so? EHHHH Not enough to lose sleep over. I lived in my last van for 3 years with the fan installed the same way and I have seen plenty of fan installs even by professionals without the frame. I knew I was in an ideal spot for support that would't really fit the frame in the first place. So all that to say, do with as you please with all of this information.
ALSO, I saw someone screw a block of wood into the middle of where they were going to cut out for their fan. So he had something to grip to hold it up after cutting it out, which is MUCH better than my tape method! I wanted to share the great idea :)

On ebay they sell a base that has the ridges of the roof for the promaster. I found it later and wish i knew about it sooner.

hello, a really good way to drill sheet metal is with a cobalt step drill and add a few drops of rapid tap cutting fluid as you drill.... it leaves a perfect round hole with the edges/rim beveled/smooth.......... great video's☺

A heavy duty magnet on the piece you're cutting helps with the shavings
I think the screws penetrating to the inside might be a problem. Maybe add that wood frame you were talking about.
... I've installed a few of these and Always gotta stick your head through the hole !!! however at 70 , I don't come close to looking as good as you while doing it lol ... safe travels ...

Nice trick, to use a bag to collect metal shavings. If your breaking saw blade, you may be pushing to hard and/or have the wrong type of blade.
Always remember, measure twice and cut once.
