This one deserves a patent. Could market it to push dead cars and trucks in and out of the shop, or like a towing service- bring it to someone that’s broken down and get the truck home without a flatbed.
Man, that's a good idea. But typically you don't want to pull (or push) a rwd or 4wd vehicle without the fluid being pumped through the drive train. With trucks you have to dolly them or pull the drive shaft.
@@trm4life I don't really know what you're talking about the fluids, as the pulling vehicle will of course be turned on when pulling/being pushed by the trailer, so any fluids which should be running through the car will be running through the car. I belive rhe only fluid which may be of significance is the transmission fluid, which is only a concern in automatic cars, but again the car is turned on when pulling the trailer so it would be fine. The trailer would of course have software which decides on when the right time is to accelerate its own wheels, but of course basically anytime the driver is pushing the gas, there is a system out there for semi trucks in development, its called trailerdynamics. I believe there was one for car trailers as well but I can't recall the name. It's also the only time I appreciate the electric drivetrain in cars as it just makes sense in this case because it is more compact than another whole engine taking up cargo space as it can often be mounted way down below under the trailer.
Its quite unsafe being pushed by an external, heavy weight trailer, at least for Cars. Look at those accidents where a caravan swings up and pushes the car out of the lane, because the Caravan or the trailer gets out of control. So such a thing with an internal motor could easily do that, for example when it loses Grip on either one or both sides. Any stabilizing electronics and mechanics inside the pushed car would not know what to do, because they don´t calculate with an external engine.
That one scene before the burnout, the dual motor acceleration... You could see something fly off the propshaft. I knew it was a matter of time there. I also think the fact the little propshaft wasnt a sliding shaft also hurt this. When the suspension in the rear flexed, there was no slack movement in the little prop to compensate for said movement. That movement from the rear was then directed completely at the transmission output point. This is an awesome idea. lol Very similar at how two locomotives will be tailed to help move the whole train.
@TheDesmoto maybe. I'm basing the possible damage on the fact that it seemed there was no room for compression. If it could extend, probably could. But this seemed like it could have been cause by impact damage as well. The bearing cap does pop off in that scene, but that was why I was basing the event on impact damage as there was no room for compression. Yeah, I could be wrong, I totally get that. But it's possible the whole axel could have tried to push or twist forward. The input part of the axel could have twisted up, being lower than the output of the trans, that would incur a point of compression, maybe enough to act as an impact. That is what I surmise could have happened at least.

This isn't just an idea for a fun experiment. The caravan manufacturer Dethleffs is actually working on a model with electric assist drive. The idea is mainly aimed to enable electric cars which have a rather low trailer weight rating by themselves to tow a full size caravan regardless. The drive motor in the caravan is controlled by a force sensor in the hitch, when a pulling force in the hitch is detected the caravan motor starts to assist, it regulates this motor so that a constant set pulling force on the hitch is reached, the leading vehicle keeps on pulling with a low force only, the caravan motor does the rest. This to ensure proper handling. When braking the drive switches off by the activation of the trailer brake. No hardwired controls to the towing vehicle are needed. The experiment in this video is of course of another magnitude, it's just a fun experiment and not of practical use in the form showed here, even the weight distribution is far off with the trailer axle so far to the back. A lot of the weight is on the hitch and not on the trailer wheels. Maybe turn the axle around and have the gearbox over the axle? a 4x4 center diff could be used to connect the two.

Cleetus is rich as hell now, but it used to be that he'd pull an engine from geezer's wreckled truck and turn the 4.great into an 800 hp monster, blow it up, and then do it again. Then again, the Fiero shows us Garret's sense of humor...
Yes, well done boys! Correct phasing of the unis will reap some gains.
I do hope they show how they repair the transmission.
A foot e-throttle and an LSD or welded diff would help with getting power onto the road.
Some LSD might be good too. Don't drink cognac and drive.
What i like is the not so subtle hint that the beverage of choice - what the hell is it anyway? - had something to do with this idea. Nice!
Bump start to another level 👍
First time I've ever seen a trailer do a burnout, I could only imagine trying to tell your buddies at work about how your trailer can do a burnout.
Another great video, trailer would even be better if was a 4x4 setup
Great video!
While you have trailer intact, you can try something else;
Trailer engine coupled with a dynamo or generator, then sends the current to an electric motor which drives the car's wheels.
By this you can eliminate inconsistent and dangereous (because car'rear wheels can be pushed sideways while turning etc) pushing effect and better control acceleration.
You guys should of connected
The throttle cable to the same
Accelerator! Good job 👍
I am verry impressed, that this worked so well! RIP gearbox...
You could test the motor-trailer in off-road terrain 😂😂
"Very simple" flashes of a now almost empty bottle of booze haha Too much excitement!
HEY! The HORSE (power) goes in FRONT of the Cart. 🤣😂❤
imagine doing a dragrace against a lada overtaking you with a trailer while exhaust smoke is coming out of the trailer. xD
first ever true trailer burnout.
Trailer Burnout is awesome
That’s just COOL!! Who woulda thought?
Never fail to amaze.
Great invention for a electric car and it can charge the battery also while driving 🤔👍💚💛❤️
yooooooo fantastic job
That's a marriage of steampunk and Mad Max we all were waiting for!
