Hi friends, thanks for watching. Make sure to like and subscribe. I have a lot of shows coming up. Birmingham, Albany, Raleigh, Austin, Buffalo, DC & more. www.joshjohnsoncomedy.com/tour for tickets
*JOSH, I (AS WELL AS THEM WHO ARE IN HEAVEN) LOVE THIS ACT. YOU REALLY HIT HOME ON THESE MEFA-PASTORS OF TODAY. EVEN THOUGH NONE OF THEM ARE WITH HEAVEN'S TRUTHS (AND THE WAY THAT THEY TAKE FROM THE COMMUNITY SHOWS THIS). I AM A TEACHER OF GOD'S WORD (A POOR RIGHTEOUS MAN), AND I SHOULD HOPE THAT THESE PASTORS TODAY DO SEE THIS SEGMENT, AND BEGIN TO CHANGE ( BECAUSE THEY ALL SHALL KNOW HELL'S FIRE 🔥🔥🔥 IF THEY DON'T), AND THIS I SAY IS SO, LOVE YOU LITTLE BROTHER (KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK)*
I KNEW there was something special about you from the moment I saw your set about 5 years ago. I am thrilled you’re not only giving us your best, but you look like you genuinely enjoy yourself! Have to be honest, I teared up when you gave to that woman in need. I feel as if our world has lost empathy post-covid. Good to know there are still many decent humans around. ❤ Even people that don’t like to be touched! 😂😂 Btw, what is the lead in/out music? It’s such an earworm! 🎶Mirar 🎶
When Josh said people are mistaking God for their intrusive thoughts. I almost yelled in laughter.. so much facts and humor at once.. people are mistaking God for their desires.
It takes a long time to be able to discern God's voice from my "own". The one thing I've learned that helps me tell them apart is when God speaks, it's like He's gripping my heart in His hands and everything in me knows it's Him. And even after that I'm still like, hmm am I just hungry? 🤣
My childhood church is a hundred million dollar monster that’s been bilking its followers for 50+ years. They’re currently holding a charity drive to give clothing and toiletries to the unhoused. It’s such a joke; they have enough acreage to renovate existing campus properties to provide temporary/halfway housing, counseling, and sobriety workshops. They don’t wanna spend *their* money, only the flock’s funds.
I once volunteered for an outdoor church specifically for homeless people. They had live music (I ran the sound), Bible study, and food and drinks for the congregation afterwards. I may not be an expert on Christianity, but that church was the only church I’ve ever been to that made me.... feel something. It felt genuine, it felt real. It was the only church I’ve ever been to that cared more about taking care of the congregation than it cared about taking care of its appearance.
These churches do exist. Unfortunately they are not the norm. But they are out there, and they do good work to try to help people, without expecting anything in return because that is what they believe in their hearts they have been called to do.
In a way, that sounds nice. I only hope that there weren't homeless members of the congregation who felt compelled to attend church and protest faith based on the promise of a meal.
They may have come for the literal food, but they were also being fed spiritually. Jesus fed the multitude with 5 fish. He fed the body and soul. This outdoor church seems to do the same.@@chinkasuyaro8983
These are the best churches, but they are far and few between. So often churches are all about looks but not the works. Not many want to do the actual work.
I was homeless in coney island in2004 and there was a little storefront church on 19th and surf, it was just like a small 2 story. Walk up house with a small front porch and every Tuesday and Friday. The homeless people would lineup and they would give them a new set of clothes underpants, socks and you could take a shower and you had 5 minutes in the shower it was beautiful. And then when you came out, you cleaned it and the next person went. Then they fed you and gave you blankets. And prayer and offered you services. And they were the nicest most wonderful, most giving beautiful people I ever met. I could walk into that church anytime. Dare night and ask for a tampon. Try to do that at the arch diocese. Not happening. They hand you a coat when you're cold. They talk to you when you're lonely. They feed you and you're hungry and they let you bathe when you're dirty. Now that is God. ❤❤.
I've repeatedly asked, but why is it when these men of God need money, they ask YOU! but when YOU need money they tell you to "TRUST GOD" #MakeItMakeSense
Depends on the church. We tend to overgeneralize. I can tell ya that one of my jobs as a Deacon at my Church in Metro ATL is to pay folks bills, rent and mortgage when they get behind. Non members and members alike. Thousands of dollars every week from folks hard earned tithes (its almost unpaid part time job contacting folks and doing paperwork) Now- if you go to a church in the prosperity ministry community: your focus of "blessings" tends to be elsewhere.
Yo🤟🇦🇴 they did and God gave them all the people that send them money. I'm an atheist but hey if this is how things are maybe its time I find the holy spirit too😂
Yeah that depends on the church. I've been offered help before, people set aside an amount for tithing and well take money from that to help out others.
12:18 Did anybody hear about the pastor in Bryan, Ohio who took people in to his church to shelter them from the freezing cold weather but was taken to court for doing so because of zoning laws?? There are good pastors out there actually trying to do God's work, and getting shut down for no good reason! When I heard about this I was livid! I love the part where he said we should be doing the work to the point where it's uncomfortable. Church should be a place where everyone is welcomed and we care for each other, not a club with a bunch of cliques.
yeah this is the exception not the rule. Joel Ostend blocked people from staying in the church during the most recent Texas crisis and has been coming up with excuses ever since. Mega church pastors are the reason churches should be taxed.
I'm a retired pastor. A few decades ago, I was "detained" by the police when I assisted a church group in setting up a "free hot meal station" in the poorest part of our city. In the middle of January. Apparently it was illegal to give hungry people something to eat
Hey Josh, I'm a pastor who drives my kids around in a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan. And I love your comedy. Thanks for the laughs, and for delivering them with genuine truthfulness!
Why don’t y’all preach about God’s disrespect towards his wife and his commands to his children to ignore and disrespect their mother to suit his Narcissism?? WHY doesn’t the church teach the truth that’s in the Bible? If we were created in God’s image than HE IS A HUMAN BEING and therefore a liar 🤥 because man does not create life 👶🏻 👧🏼 on his own!!
One thing I've never understood, any likeness or representation of him that is not him is blasphemy. Right? So what's with the churches and the stained glass windows in the statues and the holy bread and holy water and all of this stuff that's supposed to represent him when it's literally blasphemy according to the scripture itself😮
@@thecloneguyz because Jesus Christ was m urdered for separating himself from church and state. He told his followers to be RIGHTEOUS and Not religious… but they don’t do that. They cling to the religion of hypocrisy and listen to the false prophets, pastors, preachers and priests lead them in Fear instead of learning about the Holy Spirit from the Holy Spirit and obtaining the Spirit life as Christ did. What they practice is hypocrisy at the highest levels. There are over 10,000 known religions around the world 🌎 that were ALL created by human beings in order to control other human beings. No one needs religion… but they DO need to live a righteous life. There’s a Big difference between Righteous and religious.
Sidenote: it's interesting to see how TikTok is influencing our speech patterns. This is text, obvs. But the ending leads back into the beginning so seamlessly. And people do often reread things to ensure comprehension. It's cool that this comment seems to encourage and reward people for what they were going to do anyway. Edit: thepanda1044 edited their's, so I have to edit mine.
I mean they are that 😅, in my red state counties we literally have a policy of no entry for Pastors or the church buddies beyond our properties, as literally half of them are " Pdf file " Registered in Database. The only way they still roam free is they pay the politicians & ironically the broke bro trailers buddies vote for same one's since 4 decades.
I’m not understanding the need for a private jet when their congregation is in the community🤔. And if there really is a need for travel why couldn’t they just take a commercial flight like everyone else in their congregation? Why do they feel they should be put on a pedestal? The dressing like a pimp statement is right on. Our old pastor used to wear specially tailored capes and expensive shoes and the first lady was always dressed in like colors of expensively tailored suits and hats etc. I didn’t understand it then and now that I’m grown I really don’t understand it, especially when they were always talking about helping the poor. With all the money being collected, there shouldn’t be any poor or unhoused people…….IF they were doing their job.
It's the best con put there. Legal, no taxes, plentiful supply of the gullible.. Honestly, if you want to be a conman, religion is the way to go. You don't even have to invent your own, just do a Christian franchise thing with your own twist and you're set.
Usually the young comics focus on the laughs per minute, and only the Chapelles and the Carlins have enough confidence to just straight up tell a story with or without laughs. Josh is doing standup like a veteran, he’s dealing with serious topics and creating characters like a true storyteller and also making it funny as hell.
And hey, he hasn't become a lazy, greedy, hateful old man who uses his 'comedy' to hurt the marginalized for the easy laughs and rake up their money. Creepy ol Dave can't claim that.
The very first pastor in the history of the world was a hustler. 1 man could control tens to hundreds to thousands with the word about an imaginary figure and imaginary consequences after death. The rich and the intelligent were the minority while the mob was the majority and one hustler created God and controlled them all and even got the mob to pay them. All for a better afterlife and the hopes of miracles.
@@JDmix123 -- You and I weren't around then. We truly don't know what is true. It is just an intuition I have from understanding human nature and greed. I don't think I am wrong and that is my right. You think I am wrong and that is your right. I don't believe humans are inherently good. They are inherently selfish and those first pastors gained power, authority, and a large following. They may do some good en route to gaining that following, power, and authority but it wasn't inherent good. They may even do more good to keep the following. The following they gain with good may not be enough to control the masses so consequences must be added. What is more scary than being judged by a being that isn't tangible and burning in hell for eternity for not following the rules while on earth? Following the rules here on Earth are really convenient for the pastor that is leading the mob of humans. How can the few lead the many without fear of retribution? Few answers are better than religion or an army.
I did that exact math once. I got the homelessness numbers of my city, divided the cost of Housing First by the number of churches in town, and it came out to a tiny amount for each church. Please do it yourself for your city and see the hypocrisy.
ok, then do the math in your own house....i bet you can fit two or three meth heads if you really wanted to, you can stuff a dozen in the basement...shrug
@kantraxoikol6914 I know there's a reflex in billionaire-simps to react to anyone questioning anything they do, but is this really the hill you want to defend? Parishioners gave him that money specifically to "do God's work". Is buying private keys "God's work"? Is owning a $50 million home "God's work"? Or is he just defalcating that money? You know what would be "doing God's work"? Doing exactly what Jesus said to do, feed the hungry and house the homeless.
@@kantraxoikol6914it's the Internet and you can't even pretend to be a moral person. If your response to the idea that the church should give comfort to the downtrodden is an attempt at a gatcha, what is even the point of you. It's telling you immediately went to characterizing those homeless as methheads, because according to you, that's the only reason someone could be homeless
@@kantraxoikol6914 this is such a bizarre comment and so completely irellevent to what was said....there was not any bit of an implication about anyone letting strangers living in their homes. This comment was about how people could CHIP in to get people homes of their own. How we, as a people, as a community could chip in and do the math TOGETHER. No one is expecting billionaires to let homeless people sleep in their many rooms. It's just odd that people who claim to care the absolute most about the poor do nothing to ease their suffering. And when any of us gives money to these people expecting change, nothing happens. But keep going off about how if you don't let a homeless man sleep in your one and only bed, you have no right to talk about contributing to get him a place of his own.
One of the biggest reasons I stopped going to church was, the service where the pastor said “ I was on my boat, drinking non-alcoholic beer living the good life. “ and yes he verbally said that! I said oh hell no.
For some reason this only happens with churches and faith. If you get screwed at your job, do you stop working? If you get food poisoning do you not eat anymore?
@@hectorgarcia9783 You need to eat or you will die. Likewise, we sadly live in a capitalistic society that means we need a way to pay the bills and UBI still isn't a thing. Faith? You either believe in it or you don't. Ultimately, it doesn't functionally change your life to have faith or not.
@@hectorgarcia9783 I know spiritual abuse (which does exist) can be devastating, I've been through it myself. But it never made me mad at God, just the people who claimed to work for Him. I continue to seek God and find Him. I had to change groups several times but I'm still with Him and He's still with me.
They're laughing, because he's shining the light on the truth, and laughter is the only way we have to deal with the uncomfortable truth. Love you, Josh. don't change, man - always tell the truth.
This was one of the best non-biased critiques on churches today. I'm a Christian and I'm so tired of these pastors preaching about prosperity instead of salvation as Jesus (Yeshua )instructed them.
Whenever a supposed Christian refers to themselves as "Reverend" or "Pastor," they are directly defying Jesus' command against titles among brethren in Matthew 23. Beware of such individuals, as they are shysters more interested in personal gain than in genuine faith.
It's a side note and something I wish I had more information on... From a Text Setting history I was told, "Jesus" was changed from "Iesus" (with an i!) due in part to "J" being a more numerous text character vs capital "i"! Which then the spelling became more popularized and repeated. Making it a unique hold over in time when technology could not keep up with religion!
Me and my husband’s, also! I’ve started rewatching videos. It’s depressing because I keep checking to see if he’s coming to South Carolina! I feel I may even be stalking this young man for me and my husband.
As a child of the 70s and 80s, who graduated from a Christian High School. TV preachers and mega churches completely turned me against organized religion. Especially Southern Baptists who seem to hate everyone but other Southern Baptists lol I do still have faith in God but not churches. Loved this set!
Same! I'm glad I'm seeing other people railing against organized religion. We don't need people to tell us what to do. We can read the book ourselves. Before the printing press, the Bible was written in Latin and religious leaders took advantage of the fact that an average member could not read it. Now it can be read by anyone, anyone can take lessons from it.
I come in peace 🙏 I'm a Christian but I don't go to church so my knowledge is not deep concerning religion. I just want to know what are southern Baptists? How do they differ from other Christians I live in Scotland hence no knowledge of them Thanks
The pastor that would come to us when I stayed at a Juvenile Detention Center wore alligator shoes, had a freaking feather in his hat, had gold rings, nice watch, & expensive looking well tailored suits. Literally dressed like a pimp. Only thing missing was a pimp cane which he probably has in his car. 😂😂😂

“It’s your job as a citizen of the world to help people that you may never have met. It is your actual duty as a living, breathing, empathetic individual, that you have to do something if someone, somewhere is hurting. You don’t need to know them and you don’t need to know why they got there, that’s none of your business. It’s important to help someone.”
You don't actually have to be religious to hold this as a true human value. Another line he states about "doing something that matters that we were here". Using your power of empathy to leave a mark on humanity. This was a beautiful speech on the state of world, that just happened to also be funny. He is a very intelligent man and I really loved this.
I always ask folk how is it that a preacher of a church can comfortably live in a mansion drive expensive cars and go on expensive trips knowing he has members in his church that are literally struggling to pay their bills and he’s ok with that but people are perfectly fine with that, that’s the wild part 🤨🤦🏾♂️
Joel olsteen sucked a million bucks out of his church to pay off a million dollar loan he took out on his beachfront ocean mansion that’s worth several million. It’s just one of his mansions and yachts and real estate holdings in his name under a trust outside the church. He steals that money. You would think people would wake up.
I mean, generically as a society, we're fine with it too. We reward professional athletes with millions of dollars instead of housing the homeless just the same. Never mind accept the existence of billionaires (or even celebrate them - looking at you Oprah and TayTay).
As Pastor Gino always says, “we need to stop giving our money to these preachers and they need to get a job and work like the rest of us”. Nothing but Greed! Josh, you are so right!
As someone who grew up watching her mother financially struggle but still give all her money to the church to the detriment of her children and herself……this HITS HARD
That was not a church then. My family was poor and we only gave 10 percent of our earnings but that money shoudl be use for the church, which includes the people that go there to help them. That church she went to should have helped you guys out since thats why that money is for
We have a really big church im our town very fancy for South African standards...they have a private school on same grounds and the church and school is named the same but now they are moving the school to expand the church which is a $100 million project. To be a member of this church you need to a monthly fee which already in itself is ridiculous high. I wonder where that 100 mil came from, definitely not the school. I have refused to go to it in pure fact I know they ain't preaching because God is in their hearts but rather to fill their pockets with unbelievable amounts of money....this is not only a American thing.
Wow, that last part of how church should be. So profound, so honest. And I agree, we should be surrounded by the undesirables of our society to share good news with them but also help them in their time of need. Beautiful.
This may be an odd comment, but I want to thank you, Josh. I have a severe anxiety disorder and Bipolar disorder, and whenever I'm feeling really bad, I can always count on your videos to make me feel better. Thank you. I hope you know that you provide more than just laughs. You provide help for people like me too.
Yes, heard and so true. Good comedy is a balm for the mind, a way to relieve anxiety and stress and have a sense of connection. Good comedy, that is. Comics who punch down and/or foment hate are big zeros. Josh is up there with the best and brightest, and I'm glad to see his successes.
I know this song is in Portuguese but when I need something soothing, I turn to this singer. Gabriel Henrique. th-cam.com/video/2Oo2mBAA0r4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=n3V6SgEpTIa_lwYf I hope you enjoy.✌️💖🌹
As a devout Christian in recovery this was one of the best sermons I wish I was hearing from the pastors at the pulpit. Everything about this was so fucking true, especially the uncomfortable part. I love it.
Whenever a supposed Christian refers to themselves as "Reverend" or "Pastor," they are directly defying Jesus' command against titles among brethren in Matthew 23. Beware of such individuals, as they are shysters more interested in personal gain than in genuine faith.
Josh I cannot tell you enough of how much I enjoy your shows. When I want a good laugh, I tune to one of them. You are a born comedian and moreover you are unique from many others because you do not curse or use immoral words. I am very proud of you even though I do not know you. You are really intelligent.

That last joke purely represents why i think Josh is probably one of the Best comedians out there. He finds a way to express parts of our human experience while bringing us to eye opening realisations and also to rib cracking laughter.... and he does a new set every week...HOW? I have 3 dollars i need to donate to this man.
He really is building a lifelong career as a stand up. I'd LOVEEEEEEE to see him in movies and voicing things for kids shows (good money he can make in his PJs, and parents will look up who it is, get some new fans) while he's rising to the top. I can really see him STILL killing it on stage in 40 years.
@lionmenmusic6144, it might just be that Josh is the reincarnation of Mark Twain, who did much the same in his time. I can't give higher praise than that.
What I love about him, is that he is not only funny but his messaging is very on point and relates to almost all your inner thoughts, on specific subjects that come to light or that are being discussed. Not just a Comedic but a very intelligent Comedic.
9:58 I’m a Christian and this is a very good assessment of why these pastors do this. “They’ve mistaken God for their intrusive thoughts” Mic drop … that’s all that needs to be said! A real pastor would never do this type of thing Thanks Josh for being funny and keeping it 💯
That's the Scotsman argument and it isn't solving the problem. You have to acknowledge that these people regardless of how YOU see them as different from yourself, are in fact a part of the same faction. They represent the same cloth and are duping the same people. Unless some sort of reform happens to better vet leaders of the church you will continue to have people leave due to corruption.
Look as someone who is in the faith this is part of my complaint with our leaders. Don't speak on God's behalf if you're not willing to take up the responsibility as well.
That man wasn't speaking on God's behalf. He was lying before him in his own damn house. The fact that you even say "our leaders" is why the separation of church and state is so essential for the government to even be remotely functional. Those aren't your leaders. Those are charlatans filling their pockets.
I like Josh. I have watched his videos and he never cursing during his performance. No f words, no wtf word, no mf word. He already has gain my respect. It shows you can be funny and make people laugh without being rude.
I used to think that the people who follow these crooked pastors were being tricked and needed help. There's no way to talk them out of it. Now I'm thinking that some people WANT to be tricked.
You would be surprised, some people are more than happy being sheep. They don't want to think for themselves or hear an outside opinion, they want to be told what to do and refuse to see it in any other light regardless of if they're being taken advantage of
I mean, as a society, I feel they're not really outliers. General society cheers on the wealthy like Musk, Gates, Oprah, Taylor Swift, etc which frankly is 10x worse than most of those megachurch pastors. The only reason those pastors are more noticeable is because of their hypocrisy but Oprah having a billion dollars is no less gross than a megachurch pastor having $50 million. You can just as easily argue that pastor earned it as Oprah did. To be clear, I think both shouldn't exist - megachurch pastors and billionaires. And I think the existence of both signals something wrong with both aspects of society (spiritual and capitalist)
To "JOSH JOHNSON" I've never heard of you until now, But as a former "HOMELESS PERSON" (7 YEARS), Let me say: I LOVE EVERY WORD YOU SAID AT "12:25" ABOUT HELPING OTHERS, AND ESPECIALLY HELPING THE HOMELES! YOU ARE A TRUE BLESSING 🙏 TELLING PEOPLE THAT. Especially in a time and in a country where most states are choosing to hate THE POOR AND THE HOMELESS (HELLO TEXAS, and TULSA OK). If you were to make POLITICIANS, PEOPLE, BUSINESSES, AND CHURCHES understand that: THAT WOULD MAKE THIS COUNTRY GREAT AGAIN.
Josh Johnson stream of comedic consciousness is where it’s at. Feel like everybody at the party’s passed out and we’re in camping chairs in the backyard, sitting by the dwindling fire, talking actual real life while we wait for the sun to come up so we can usher our hungover friends to Waffle House. He’s a pure vibe friend.
Josh sound like a real prophet up there 😂. All jokes aside I’m glad he is calling out the hypocrisy in the modern church. Josh may or may not be a Christian but either way he speaks the heart of God on this matter. The Bible calls them wolves in sheep’s clothing.
@TheDmaj7th yup, people who call themselves Christian nowadays give me pause, and I have to see their heart in action. It's the people ACTING like Christians who then mention God, that I actually believe follow him.
Whenever a supposed Christian refers to themselves as "Reverend" or "Pastor," they are directly defying Jesus' command against titles among brethren in Matthew 23. Beware of such individuals, as they are shysters more interested in personal gain than in genuine faith.
This exactly. I've been saying for years that if churches aren't providing some sort of social service, they shouldn't be tax-exempt. You aren't feeding, clothing, providing free childcare, health services, or elder care? pay up kid, the government can do it with your money if you can't be bothered to care about others.
Exactly. It should be more than stripping thier tax exempt status, it should be complete transparency of their finances and spending. People need to know where their hard-earned money is going, who is funding the church, and what they spend the money on.
As a Christian, (and someone from Tennessee farm country, where pastors really are poor as dirt more often than not) I fully agree with your critique of mainstream church culture. I'm actually really proud of my church community for stepping up anytime there is a need we can fill. Some of the men have even installed a shower stall in one of the Sunday school rooms so that someone can temporarily live in the church if needed. Really appreciate the combo of introspection and humor in this set :)
Whenever a supposed Christian refers to themselves as "Reverend" or "Pastor," they are directly defying Jesus' command against titles among brethren in Matthew 23. Beware of such individuals, as they are shysters more interested in personal gain than in genuine faith.
I think a light just burst through from the heavens and shone down on this young man when he delivered the commentary about what churches really should be about.
thank you. I will say the town where I live, the town wouldn't let the church take in the homeless during a terrible heat wave. The church wasn't meeting some standard. So the church put up a sign saying "The church is always open for worship". Then they turned on the AC and had people donate pillows and blankets for the pews. Yes, it was pungent at times.
Wow, mine has a very used Mustang Convertible (that he just re-did the interior buy his self recently) and Toyota Truck. His wife, who is pastor at another small church has a min-van. Their house, first after 23 years in ministry, is a fixer upper that he fixed up himself. Has put 2 and a half (one half way through at age 16) though college - state schools. Choose your church and pastor well. If he's living WAY better than you, that might be a sign there is an issue. We have no such problem and have many out reaches to our community and others. What we are supposed to do...
It's interesting to look at the history of how pastors in the United States have changed their trends of economic system preferences. Early in the 29th Century, it was actually very common for priests, pastors, etc to be socialist or socialist-leaning. This was something that a lot of very, very wealthy men didn't like because it would influence so many people. So there was an extended propaganda campaign to influence churches in the US to become more right-leaning. Sadly, it worked very well, and now we have things like prosperity gospel, which is more about worship of the dollar than anything else.
All I know are regular pastors, that make around or less than thier congregation. There are great many of them, but people want preachers that speak to their wants not the truth.
"That is what church should feel like!" Josh, you are so honest and insightful!❤ It WAS a sweet moment, because you did the uncomfortable! You are human and wonderful!
Thank you. You said what is in my heart in this piece. It shouldn’t be about fear, or money. It’s about Love. And sometimes that love makes you need to wash your hands. But that’s ok too.
YES!!!! 100% this is true!!! As someone who grew up in a cult church, this speaks so much truth!!! I'm so happy to hear this is a funny way, so maybe someone who is going through it will be able to hear it better and get out.
That was exquisite in every way. You hit and maintained the balance between humor and humanity, between thoughtfulness and laughter. It was smart, funny and generous. Thanks.
My cousin was a prosperity gospel guy. He literally died from a totally treatable disease because he genuinely didn't think God would let him die so easily.
Yeah, the prosperity gospel is nonsense. God promises nothing about being wealthy. Of the 12 apostles, 11 were martyred - all poor. The last one dodged two martyr attempts before dying of old age (that would be John). Expect suffering and death, not riches.
This is true. I worked in a non-profit for a Pastor's non-denomenational Christian Church. I'm secular. The first time I met this man & I will NEVER forget this: This is the middle winter he's wearing snake-skin boots, a grey Chinchella coat, & Burberry sunglasses. Oh, he had several rings - He did have the pinky ring. I remember him on the phone w/ his daughter when she was college I can get you a new Mercedes or a Used Lexus (used by 2yrs old). It was ridiculous. His church was in the innercity - When I say the innercity - it's considered one of the worst in the nation. His home is where some actors have their mansions. It's ridiculous.
I just recently started watching his videos and he is my new favorite. I love his humor and the intellect he has. Lover it. Appreciate it being clean the most.
My daughter said I had to check you out. I am glad I did. I stop watching comedy, no one made me laugh anymore; I thought I was jaded, you floored me-I was laughing soooo loud at your routine in public I embarrassed my family😂😂😂. You are one of the best Comedians- Storyweavers in decades. Your delivery is tops. I would put you in the vein of young Comedians in their prime: Dick Gregory, Richard Pryor, Paul Mooney, John Witherspoon, Eddie Murphy, Rodney Dangerfield, David Allen Grier, Dave Chappelle, Tommy Davidson, Sommore . PLEASE, keep the World laughing. ❤😊
Josh, I really liked what you said at the end about what church should be like. I was an Evangelical conservative until 2016 , the bullying, and the Access Hollywood tape. I am still a Christian who enjoys comedy about Trump. I have enjoyed your comedy style and always thought you were a good human. This set reinforces your status. God bless you.
Josh Johnson is, without a doubt, one of the top five best comedians working today. Is that just my personal opinion? Yep. Am I wrong? Nope. Insightful, well structured, brilliaintly written humor. I freakin' love this guy. He WILL go far, even if I have to send him three dollars every day. Thank you for being, Josh.

Josh , I am already a fan but my level of respect went way up for you. I am a devout Christian and live on the edge to be able to do Gods work. How in the world did you figure how to put comedy in and the seriousness of how the church has failed together? Genius! You have done so much good unbeknownst to us so God is giving you favor. Don’t ever change. You will continue to be blessed. This was a gutsy thing to do … to an audience that you have no idea their background but you gave them a little bit of God while blasting the church , cause it sure has failed. Dont feel bad about feeling that way with the homeless. I’ve had the same experience. God knows your heart. Ive had a few hugs where I’ve also said inside… Lord I’m so sorry I’m feeling this way. Just don’t change… you do have a beautiful heart. Your comedy is intelligent and witty!
I’ve been seeking Christ much more this past year. I was saved at 12 but at 52 I want to praise Him more. I find I can’t watch the comedians I used to love along with movies I loved. I’m a huge fan of comedy and find great acts on Dry Bar but since discovering Josh… hallelujah! Comedy is back in my life!😂❤
these videos are killing it, Mr Johnson. Your ability to create truly funny but meaningful topical material is outpacing the writers rooms. So impressed.
This brother is right 100% a more poor pastor not asking for money is much more believable as should, instead of one who is rich. This brother is on point so you people who go to these places need to listen and learn.
I just watched this video, only really intending to watch a minute or so of it. It was so captivating and absolutely on point, that I could not stop watching it. Great work!

He's right. Read your Bible all the way through, not just want someone tells you to read, and you won't be scammed and you will give to the poor. This should be a wake up call for someone!
Reading the bible through without someone cherry picking verses was what made me think that it was written by people and that god was made in man’s image not the other way around. I am now an atheist. 🤷🏼♀️ Have been for 50+ years.
As a Christian preacher I have to admit, this man preached one of the best sermons I’ve heard all year! I’m made I can’t share this with others because they would be so offended but he is speaking truth for most of it. Book of Malachi tells how this generation of mega church pastors act.

I got into doing my own standup a while back to tell stories PRECISELY like this one. I ugly cried because this meant so much to me. Funny, powerful, and hopeful. It's so refreshing to hear a comic call out the BS that is going on, but also highlight that the stuff that we hate is so bad because it doesn't have to be that way.

I work as a teller at a credit union. We have a lot of churches with business accounts. None of them had accounts with more than $500k in it. But HOW MANY ACCOUNTS they have with that $500k in them…..Josh is not wrong. Homelessness is one of the many things that money should be addressing. Yet here we are….
That’s all deliberate, creative accounting type of stuff they’re doing. I think it’s because they open themselves up to further scrutiny when they meet or exceed a certain amount in their bank account. We need to seriously increase the difficulty level of these kinds of practices these types of churches are involved in. It’s way too g*d damn easy to become wealthy running a church in America. It’s infuriating, and it’s embarrassing 😣
Hey, is it true that if you tell JWs that you have left the church, they won't visit anymore? Someone said that they are not allowed to talk with those that have left and I was curious if true.

The best church I was involved with...the pastor was a humble man, who lived with his family in the small home the church provided. There were 3 sermons on sunday, choir on Tues and Thursday, where the pastor was in attendance and there was Bible study 2 times every Wednesday He, his family and church members gave out food to the lower income (homeless). He was truly a man of God. I only stopped going bc we got stationed (military) in another state

Very Catholic of them.
Thousands of dollars every week from folks hard earned tithes (its almost unpaid part time job contacting folks and doing paperwork)
Now- if you go to a church in the prosperity ministry community: your focus of "blessings" tends to be elsewhere.
Yo🤟🇦🇴 they did and God gave them all the people that send them money. I'm an atheist but hey if this is how things are maybe its time I find the holy spirit too😂

They should not have a private jet. Period
Lol right all this shit is wild especially in this economy 😅@laurencea9005

I hope you know that you provide more than just laughs. You provide help for people like me too.
I’m so glad you found your little place escape. I completely understand what you’re saying.

Mic drop … that’s all that needs to be said!
A real pastor would never do this type of thing
Thanks Josh for being funny and keeping it 💯
That's the Scotsman argument and it isn't solving the problem. You have to acknowledge that these people regardless of how YOU see them as different from yourself, are in fact a part of the same faction. They represent the same cloth and are duping the same people. Unless some sort of reform happens to better vet leaders of the church you will continue to have people leave due to corruption.

CHURCHES ARE BUSINESSES
Look as someone who is in the faith this is part of my complaint with our leaders. Don't speak on God's behalf if you're not willing to take up the responsibility as well.
Don't speak on God's behalf if you're not willing to act on God's behalf.

Yes. The same way catholics thought they could buy their way to Heaven
True. The trickery is a reward for their idolatry. Smh

This exactly. I've been saying for years that if churches aren't providing some sort of social service, they shouldn't be tax-exempt. You aren't feeding, clothing, providing free childcare, health services, or elder care? pay up kid, the government can do it with your money if you can't be bothered to care about others.
What gets me is they pervert the bible to make it fit their narrative. They preach a proper message then they isolate the "give your money" line
Exactly. It should be more than stripping thier tax exempt status, it should be complete transparency of their finances and spending. People need to know where their hard-earned money is going, who is funding the church, and what they spend the money on.
Most churches provide this to their church members already.
@@ashablue78you know damn well that is not true 😭

As a Christian, (and someone from Tennessee farm country, where pastors really are poor as dirt more often than not) I fully agree with your critique of mainstream church culture. I'm actually really proud of my church community for stepping up anytime there is a need we can fill. Some of the men have even installed a shower stall in one of the Sunday school rooms so that someone can temporarily live in the church if needed.
Really appreciate the combo of introspection and humor in this set :)

Great respect for doing the right thing.
Damned FL Did anyone expect sane decisions here?
Wow, mine has a very used Mustang Convertible (that he just re-did the interior buy his self recently) and Toyota Truck. His wife, who is pastor at another small church has a min-van. Their house, first after 23 years in ministry, is a fixer upper that he fixed up himself. Has put 2 and a half (one half way through at age 16) though college - state schools. Choose your church and pastor well. If he's living WAY better than you, that might be a sign there is an issue. We have no such problem and have many out reaches to our community and others. What we are supposed to do...
As a Christian, you crushed your very fair and measured critique. We need more poor pastors.
Love your comedy man! Keep it up.
Christian = fraud funder
No, you need to wake up. Your religion and beliefs are false. There is no "god".
All I know are regular pastors, that make around or less than thier congregation. There are great many of them, but people want preachers that speak to their wants not the truth.

Yeah, the prosperity gospel is nonsense. God promises nothing about being wealthy. Of the 12 apostles, 11 were martyred - all poor. The last one dodged two martyr attempts before dying of old age (that would be John). Expect suffering and death, not riches.
I appreciate you bringing up this topic not from a place of hate but a place of sane reason.
The best thing about comedy is how true it can be. Nobody laughs if it's not real.
