Thanks Robert for your presentation, which I might add, you put "more effort" in the details in naming variables, which suffice it to say, that "others" (there have been several videos on TH-cam) that do not explain the syntax in naming variables. Thanks again.

It's a must you see . Instead of entering and modifying values all the times you could save a lot of time.

Thanks a lot buddy! This was very helpful.

I do not know if this happens for others who maybe using SolidWorks 2014, but my SolidWorks seems to not like decimals numbers when stating inches as the unit within the equation's external file. I would have to remove the inches unit to clear the error in SolidWorks or replace the decimal (example value: 1.5) with a whole-number (example value: 1.0 or 1). SolidWorks does accept the unit for feet with decimal numbers (example value: 1.5ft).

You would have to define those parameters in the Options, if I remember correctly.

In another slightly related subject, can the "features" section (shown in this video's Equations, Global Variables, and Dimensions window) be used for anything linked to an external file? Logical statements?

After I export the variables to a txt file the equations editor becomes dim. I am only able to change the equations from the text file only.

You should be able to manage what equations are linked or not linked. Linked variables can only be edited in the external file There are more details in the help file here goeng.io/JSl3b0

Is there away to link sketches to multiple part files as well? Lets say im making 2 parts that fit together like a puzzle piece. Using this method I can now link variables together, but I still have to create 2 sketches. With simple geometries this is not that bad, but it would save some time with more complicated models.

Hey rjsajols, in this case it may be best to model these two parts in-context of an assembly? We have a great webinar on that subject here... th-cam.com/video/owKy4HwmwMQ/w-d-xo.html

I hate how even the part's dimensions are included. is there a way to only link the global variables?

Untick the box in the 4th column along to stop the dimension being linked.
