I've probably watched 20 reviews/comparisons of similar large 4k TV's before buying the TCL. This is by far the most comprehensive and educational. Especially the part about "crushing" the black levels. That Hisense is a no go just for that reason imo. I owe this channel and Rtings a big thank you!

    3:53 for picture quality

With regards to the crushing of black detail, that happens if the local dimming is set to anything above Low on the Hisense H8F. For whatever reason Hisense has the local dimming be very aggressive at Medium and High and this causes black detail to be crushed. Also, the TV does not automatically tone map HDR fairly well when using a Video Game Console like an Xbox One X (unlike Roku TV OS which automatically tone maps up to 4,000 nits regardless of whether the device sends any HDR metadata or not). But you can get the Hisense H8F to tone map up to 3,700 nits by dropping Contrast to 42 for video game consoles. The internal apps of the TV appear to not have any issue with tone mapping and of course Dolby Vision has no issues with delivering bright specular highlight detail due to it's proprietary dynamic metadata.
With the Hisense H8F you will not want to use Game Mode HDR for playing Games in HDR because it will introduce some serious color banding. Not sure what is going on there but Hisense definitely needs to patch that. You will want to use the Theater HDR picture mode (as it gets rid of the color banding present in the Game Mode HDR picture mode) and make sure to turn off any Motion Enhancements. Film Mode will be enabled by default and even though it doesn't do anything with a 60hz signal it will add some noticeable input lag. I would say that between Game Mode HDR and Theater HDR the input lag doubles (maybe). Other reviews pegged the input lag between 15ms - 17ms with Game Mode. Without Game Mode the input lag feels like it's around 30ms (give or take a few ms).

As far as the feet length problem of these TVs, you can buy an universal vesa mount center stand that’s maybe only 15-20 inches to fit on smaller TV stands. You can find these on Amazon and at BB, or similar stores. Just make sure you buy one that supports the size of your TV. Problem solved. Ironically my Sony Z9D comes with a small center stand which I don’t use since it’s wall mounted. I don’t know why TV manufacturers moved away from these center stands to the long, ugly feet on the edges of these new TVs. These center stands usually cost around $35-$50, TV size depending. I bought one to solve this problem on my secondary TV, TCL 55” 615 in my bedroom. With the distance between the legs it would have never fit and the 55” version of the TCL 6 was the smallest size available. No issues, holds the TV well and completely balanced with no wobble if even touched or trying to shake it on purpose. I have complete confidence in these center stands.

I got burned by an online retailer scam while trying to buy a 65” LG OLED C8 for $1,500 (yeah, I know). In my frustration, I decided to take that money to Best Buy and get the best-looking large TV I could buy for that amount. I ended up actually spending a little less, on the TCL 6-series 75”, and I couldn’t be happier. The picture is fantastic, and Caleb is right about the Roku OS. He didn’t mention this, but it also sounds great, for people who don’t have any audio home theater stuff. I watched this TV for a few weeks before my audio system came in, and I would’ve been perfectly happy just using the TCL’s speakers (though I have to admit that having a subwoofer under my couch is way cool).

This comparison seems a little strange now because the R617 is still selling for around $530-$570 and the Hisense H8F is on Amazon right now for $398. A better comparison would have been the H9F maybe. I think the TCL in this video is somewhat better in most cases, but not for another $150 or so, the H8F wins the price/performance ration at the end of 2019 IMO.

I have the H8F from a replacement of a warranty in July 2019 and buyer beware: within just a week of having ours we had to call Hisense to have them send parts out and wait over a week to have it fixed. The power supply failed which is extremely common as I read with these TVs. As mentioned also the Android OS is BAD! It's slow on response and regularly just forces back to the home screen. We have exceptional internet and I don't say that lightly, we pay for it. Hulu, TH-cam, Disney Plus and even Netflix all suddenly stop and go to home. Not just that but the TV will suddenly stop and restart itself. Sadly they skimped on the hardware side.
We are gamers with consoles and PCs. The Hisense has a beautiful TV but after being absolutely frustrated out of the gate: I cannot recommend another Hisense product for my family.

Caleb, thanks. Always great reviews. Is the H8E anywhere near H8F- or is it a black friday bait and switch? On that note, you said you would examine the Vizio M-Quantum 70" (MQ6/M706). Is it even an M-Quantum? I just bought and hear it's more comparable to V-series. I am deciding between 70" M-Quantum and Hisense 75" H8E. I am seeing for near the same price. Any suggestions? Im just so worried that these one-off holiday TVs are nothing close to the line they are supposed to represent. Thanks!

Just got an H9F and Xbox One X says that HDR 10 video is supported but not HDR gaming. Went into settings on the TV and 'HDMI 2.0 format' is grayed out at 'standard'. The thing is, my Samsung Q70R supported HDR in gaming. Am I missing something?

apparently TCL 6 series, but they have serious quality control issues ( grey banding ) that is very prevalent. When you get a good one it's hands down the best at and slightly above it's price range. But I don't know what is in the $550.00 - 800 dollar price range as I'm not interested in paying that much.
Just a note here about Netflix streaming ( because I did the research ). 4k uses 25Mbps and you need to upgrade to their ultra HD which is about $3 per month. As for HDR, yes some shows that get streamed are in HDR but I've read that people aren't seeing a difference.

William Seipp thank you so much for the response. I ended up going with a Samsung 75” 2018 model. I was able to find one for $700 with the holiday deals. It doesn’t have the greatest picture but it was a pretty good deal. Thanks again.

For gaming, you ought to either find someone who does good gaming who is nearby, or make a deal with someone you want to share viewers with, and make some arrangement to do connected videos, e.g., to review the same device at the same time, and link each other.

(The reason I asked the question was because of the title. It's misleading.) REALLY, what I was wondering is, does the 75" model in this video have the 2019 Quantum Dot tech. (I don't think so.)

@@SirThomasHarber no it does not, it is not a QLED panel. Only the 8 series features quantum dot led for 2018. 2019 6 Series however does have QLED panel but not in the 75inch panel format, only 55 and 65. 2019 model will also have a true 120hz motion sensor unlike the 2018 version which is only 60hz.
