I remember how painful this ending was. To hear everyone's frustration towards V's suicide was gut-wrenching, but it's the only ending where we get to see V in our preferred outfit.
@OlhaMaksy That is also a preset outfit for the star ending, so if it does not count. Unless it's what you like, but I'm so over with the Star Ending now.
I loved how they wrote this ending. I did this ending out of pure curiosity, thinking it was just gonna be a typical underwhelming suicide ending in which V just gives up and calls it quits. However, that's not the case. V has killed countless people for his own survival and starts to question if it is worth keeping shedding blood. He starts to question if his life is worth so many people dying. Whatever he decides to do in this moment, there's no going back. He doesn't have many options, and in all of them, there's a high risk of him dying and failing. He either helps Hanako Arasaka, which could end up being something he could deeply regret, or he puts his friends at risk by helping him. The option of him going alone is practically suicide (from his perspective), so instead of getting killed and bleeding out by the hands of Araska or Adam Smasher, he accepts his death and decides to go out on his own terms. The way that final conversation between V and Johnny plays out is beautiful. Honestly, this game is a masterpiece, and all the endings are incredibly profound and special in their own way.
Also, when you look at it through the lens of the other endings, V is absolutely right. As far as I can recall, with each other ending, someone important to the story has to die. This is the only ending in which only V... and by extension, Johnny, has to die. Though by doing so, certain wrongs within Night City go unavenged, which is definitely a drawback to this ending.
The best part is it doesn’t make the best ending technically. Because during the credits, you watch all of your friends mourn your death, wondering why you went through with it. While you may believe you’re helping people by cutting yourself from the equation, in reality, your friends and family are willing to take the burden just to help you, you don’t end up realising the impact you made on everyone till it’s too late
This was the first ending I did and honestly it helped me understand and move on from my suicidal thoughts, they still surface from time time but they arent nearly as all consuming and actually getting to see characters I liked react to V's suicide allowed me to glimpse at what it would be like if I did it, how friends and family would react to it.
On the contrary, in my game run, when I played through to see this ending, V’s mouth wasn’t moving at all, only Johnny’s. Was confused after seeing others play throughs, wasn’t sure if it was a minor bug or intentional but having this minor detail in mind, I’m glad mine played out like that.
My first and only full play through. I picked this ending by mistake, thinking it was about actually taking control and fighting back. Was surprised about the third person, but uh... Yeah. Was uh. Not expecting him to... "take back control" like this...
To this day it still hurts me remembering Judy's reaction and Panam's helpless rage that she couldn't save you. Really shows the whole self unplugging doesn't solve the hurt, but just gives it to the ones who loves you. It really made me rethink my own personal life choices at that point.
@@anonymous99632right I honestly think they should have stuck to what they knew and did 3rd person. Imagine Witcher with futuristic mechanics mannn it would have been a totally different game. Watching cyberpunk edgerunners for some reason looks how the game should have played and proves that third person storytelling in that world is entirely possible and immersive in its own ways but they just wanted to be new and innovative ruining what could have been one of the best games ever
The whole game definitely didn’t need to be 3rd person but some of those powerful and deep conversations would’ve been a nice touch like the phantom liberty endings.
What was added? This ending has always been in the game and was always 3rd person. Though it certainly looks better nowadays so maybe they polished it up.
gotta like the extra detail at 1:32 that shows very clearly johnny isnt real. just something in V's head well yes, we see it during pretty much all the cinematic where johnny is shown, but its the most obvious here
I would love to continue V's story in Orion. It's rare you become so connected to a character but despite its flaws upon launch this has become one of my favourite games ever. There's so many threads to pull at. It's an example of form over function and despite that the gameplay now is very enjoyable. There's so much to like about it that I feel like you can't ignore the beauty in this game. That being said, I was lucky enough to play this on a brand new, fairly souped-up rig. For this who couldn't I feel bad. The bridge toward Japantown at night is perhaps the most beautiful sight I've seen in a game.
Honestly, I think V's and by extension Johnny's story is over. One of Cyberpunk's main facets is the idea that the city always wins in the end and every ending encompasses that beautifully, V's just another drop in the sea of tragedies that is Night City. I would like to see some reference to V and Johnny in Orion though. A small reminder of the meaningful impact they left behind on Night City.
this was my first ending when i played it, it fucked with me. made me realize this is how the people around me felt when i tried to snuff it. glad i'm still here and this game reminded me why i should still keep going for some reason.
This was my first ending when the game came out and before I knew about the one you and Johnny go alone, I love this little cutscene and the discussion/understanding both V and Johnny have and I was very satisfied with the ending then the messages played… oof I did not even begin to think about everyone else’s reaction when I made that decision and the game knows you don’t.
It’s similar to how real suicide affects people, it’s a purely one sided situation for whoever decides to take that plunge. A lot of the time I feel people don’t give much thought into how others who care about them would react to such a sudden and tragic end to someone they love and care about. Some people never recover from that (seemingly judy due to her losing everyone including you)
Honestly, I would have loved to have that camera angle similar to Fallout 4 when you spoke to people during side quests and Mocaps during main quest lines or important side character quests.
Considering that the Relic nanomachines managed to repair V's brain once before after taking a bullet to the head, and even brought him back after having his brain liquified by the VDBs if you don't take Netwatch's deal in the GIM, it would be hilarious if this ending just has you waking back up a couple hours later with a bad headache and continuing with the game.
I can understand this ending too. If someone sick, Just wana out. Friends need to understand this and move on i know these Hard words but its the truth. Besides Johny is agree and we know Johny at the end change a lot.

@bigmac5070 he means that V should have just let himself die through the relic and allow Johnny to take over instead of ending it and taking Johnny down with him. looking at it logically it only makes sense if you're choosing death either way you might aswell choose the death that benefits your friend
