    My father was a physician in Chatsworth, Calif., and treated the Manson Girls while they all lived at Spahn Ranch in Simi Valley, Calif. Lots and LOTS of STDs. My dad appreciated quirky people and never charged the girls for his time or medical services; he loved to argue religion with them, especially their claim that Charlie’s name philosophically meant “Man’s Son”. Oh, man, my dad loved to get them going. My sister met Manson at Topanga Plaza the summer before Helter Skelter and said he tried to “hypnotize” her to come and live at Spahn’s. I was very young when this happened and remember horseback riding at the ranch. In lieu of payment for medical services, the girls baked bread (it went uneaten) for my father and created handmade leather pouches that were meant to go around a person’s neck. I used them for Barbie luggage. My dad got such a kick out of those wacky girls. Crazy times!

    Charles Manson is also the crazy one. He did tie up the LaBiancas to be killed and killed the ranch handler. If you tie up someone for another to stab, you are just as much the killer as the one stabbing.

    6:45 --- It's true that Manson has received too much of the blame for these murders. (How many people even know who Tex Watson is?) But the TLB murders were 100% instigated and planned by Charles Manson. The murders were committed according to his instructions, and without him, these murders would never have happened.
    At the same time, without Watson, these murders would never have happened. Charlie and Tex were a lethal team, with Tex carrying out the murders in a more grisly manner than even Manson was capable of --- I believe Charlie was a coward who wouldn't have been able to stab a pregnant woman to death.
    Shining more light on Watson's guilt does not make Manson less guilty. They both got what they deserved --- the death penalty (later overturned by the courts).

    I thought Charlie was at the LaBianca house and helped tie them up then left so he wouldn't get his hands dirty in re to actual murder. Charlie was just as evil as Tex. He was just more cunning. He ruined countless lives including the lost young girls he pimped and pumped with drugs in order to manipulate them into doing things he wanted to happen. Don't excuse Charlie by saying he didn't actually kill anyone. He's just as culpable as Tex and the rest of them. If there hadn't been Charlie, these people wouldn't have died.

    Charles Manson is just as responsible for these murders as any one of those who manually committed the crimes, You are losing all kinds of credibility trying to convince people that Manson was innocent of anything. Manson shot and killed Bernard Crowe. Your ridiculous defense of Manson is as alarming as your support of Leslie Van Houten's undeserved freedom even though she stabbed Rosemary LaBianca in the back 16 times.

Scott is THE formost authority on this horrid crime. I highly recommend his documentary 6 degrees of Helter Skelter. I bought it and it is so through and the research he did into it is unparralled. • @jackiepierce1467
      @jackiepierce1467 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Mark Gable That too, added to the nightmare quality that the murders were so random. And, I don't remember if the book mentioned the LaBianca (spelling?) murders. But, that would have been even more horrendous. I remember hearing something about someone associated with the Beach Boys living at the house. Manson was upset because essentially he had pitched them a song and they had rejected it. So it was a revenge-type thing. But, that just may have been one of the many theories floating around. And there were a great many theories. Someone associated the Beach Boys had lived there, but had moved out less than a year before.

    I followed this story for many years, I happened to be 10 years old at the time. My reason for this was earlier that year 1969
    my older sisters took me along with them to see Valley of the Dolls which Sharon Tate was one of the actresses. I thought she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. Since then I have been consumed with this horrendous murder. I don't think I will ever get over it. I have been to California a few time but did not drive at the time. I believer my next visit I must visit this house and lay flowers. Thank you for sharing this video.

      I was 7 and totally into pop culture at the time. I was the youngest of five and became obsessed with the murder.
      My dad refused to let me watch the news because Vietnam etc... I would sit at the end of the hall around the corner so he couldn't see me and I would listen. Random evilness touched you and a lot of us youngsters of that time.
      Peace and Love. I've already lived in California too.
      My dream and goal is to go back to Laurel canyon area and stay there for a week. Driving by in a car doesn't do anything justice because there's so much traffic.

    this changed everything. No more bike riding after dusk.
    But we took a motorhome trip up north a few days later
    and here I am, in a huge parking lot in South Lake Tahoe,
    all by myself in the motorhome (because the fam was
    out getting groceries or something) .. sunshine and pine
    trees all around me .. and I'm reading about the details
    of what happened in an L.A. Times, and it was like reading
    a Stephen King novel with no one around! Creepy as hell.

    Growing up in Chatsworth, even my older sister commented the other day to me how terrified LA was when the murders happened. My dad was an LA City Fireman at the time, and even though they weren’t directly involved with the investigation, were highly disturbed over it. It wasn’t until it was discovered that it was the Manson gang who were found out to be the perpetrators (and with Spahn Ranch only about a mile away from our house) did it really hit home. 😳😬.
    I’d recommend any of Dave McGowan’s work, especially “Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon”, Charlie Manson figures in there too. Definitely bizarre stuff!

    Jordan in one of the books written about Jim Morrison, it was described that after the murders at the Tate house, Jim was one of the people they questioned because he was friends with Jay Sebring. The book described how afraid Morrison was because he already felt he was being pursued because of the anti-war stance him and other bands were taking and he was petrified they were trying to link him up to this. I'd like for you to ask Scott if he can confirm the police actually interrogated him.

    • @jamessharp9790
      @jamessharp9790 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think Jim was just frightened by the brutality of the murders. Sebring had styled Jim’s hair but it’s not been documented that he knew him well. The kind of behavior Jim was documented to have would not have gone over well in Sebring/ Tate circles plus Jim was anti war but rather conservative politically in many ways. What’s not been spoken of is how Jim reacted after the murders - I wonder if he got increased security or even started packing a toy himself. Looks for sure like his increased alcoholism and weight gain were around that time. I think most accounts would say that Jay was troubled , but generally a really kind and likable person-and Sharon a person that most people would warm to in about any circle. I wonder just how many peoples lives who knew them were also destroyed.

    I was a 13 year old kid starting my first year of high school in Santa Barbara California in August of 1969. I have had a fascination with the whole thing since then. I hope that part of the tour mentions that the previous occupant of the house on Cielo was Terry Melcher. He was a record producer and the son of Doris Day. He was also friends with Dennis Wilson with whom Charlie lived briefly. The Beach Boys bought a song from Charlie but changed the title and lyrics. Charlie was mad about it. The point being that part of the reason that house was chosen is that Charlie had been there with Dennis Wilson when Terry lived there. And since Terry refused to help get Charlie a record deal and Charlie was really mad. He may have thought Terry Melcher still lived there.

      Dont think Manson had ANY part in who,what,where at Cielo. It was Watsons Madness overthere I think Watson has been partying and selling/buying Dope at Cielo when Tate/Polanski were in London. When they were in London, Folger&Frykowsky partied HARD at Cielo.... And Sebring being ,,The Candy-Man,, They Needed Money, or Druggs Remember? So I think it was Watsons plan to go overthere ....and when they came there , allready killed one (Steven Parent) He was going absolutely MAD when there was No Druggs or Bigg Amounts $$$ there ... And could NOT leave any witnesses to what they done .

You received 2 newspapers a day. I didn't always read them everyday. I was 15 years old so I was more concerned with playing in the swimming pool instead of hearing about some movie star, who I had never followed, getting murdered in California. The news was more distant back then. If something like that would happen now, it would be nonstop headlines and news programs. Very different times that we live in now.

    • @MayorMcCheeseStalker
      @MayorMcCheeseStalker 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Shirley Bailey Manson planned the Hinman-Tate-LaBianca-Shea murders. Without him, none of these people would have been murdered.
      He personally selected 10050 Cielo Drive (the Tate house) because he held a grudge against former tenant Terry Melcher. He knew the layout of the house, and he knew it was secluded. Manson provided Tex Watson with a gun, with knives, with bolt cutters (to cut the telephone wires), with transportation to and from the murder house, and with 2 willing accomplices. He even gave instructions about leaving a "witchy" sign (the writing in blood).
      Manson also selected the LaBianca house and was the first of the gang to enter their home. He held a gun on the couple while Tex tied them up. They were then murdered on Manson's orders, just as the occupants of the Tate house had been the night before.
      Manson thought that legally, he could not be held accountable and prosecuted for the crimes if he, personally, did not physical murder anyone. Fortunately, at his trial, the People of the State of California didn't fall for it and handed him the sentence he deserved --- the Death Penalty.

      Without Charles Manson, none of the 10 Hinman-Tate-LaBianca-Shea victims (I count baby Paul as his own person) would have been murdered or even harmed. His direct involvement is what caused all this to happen. Without Tex Watson, 8 of these murders would not have happened (Tate-LaBianca), because none of Manson's other followers were cruel and evil enough to carry out his wishes like Tex did. Just because Tex is guilty, this doesn't make Manson innocent. What a ridiculous concept. They acted as a team.

    I was three years old in August 1969. Of course I don't remember it. But my mom and her Sister did. My Aunt was the hippie chick type back then. We had a little black and white TV. My Aunt's friends were hippies. And back then nobody cared to give a long haired boy a lift to where he needed to go. When it came on National news everybody was shocked by the violent slaughter of the victims. As time went on it got so bizzar that everyone was watching the tube every evening to here about it. My mom and Dad went to the drivin to see Valley of the Dolls. When they busted the manson family and they got the evidence to convict them, Manson and his wild eyes and long hair became the boogie man of 69' and 70s. My mom said it frightened her bad that she would not let us out of her sight. The hippies or flower children around here folks became scared of. That peaceful revolution of harmony died. Regular folks stayed as far away from hippies as possible. If the manson family were hippies and did that, what would the ones living around here high on dope do?
