Or use the heavy power armor build and change all the power armor to have chrome paint from the CC if you have it. Or a mod.
Or, give him Railroad paint T51 arms and legs, the Overboss torso, and an X01 helmet with red eyelights, and you have a black knight with glowing red eyes

Very true, btw i just noticed that 7 of these early builds mimic the 7 special stat perk trees
After level 50, I started working on Blitz, because it becomes so OP on this build. Also, I'm thinking of picking up Cannibal, too because of the fact that it's one of the only "evil" things you can do in the game right now.
I'm also going to invest in some Charisma, to make the intimidation speech checks easier to pass because, well, he's pretty damn intimidating. He'll also need to be intimidating and convincing to lead his group of raiders...(Nuka World HYPE)

Maybe even the Iron Fist perk, to be an even more brutal melee build? Meat hooks and knuckles are pretty appealing...
Using this build, for my like 5th full play through, was the most fun i've ever had in this game.
This build will be perfect when Nuka World is released
But now with the Overboss build, that'll be the best for Nuka World.

tried this on survival... 1 mistake and your back in your bed like kenny in south park
hahahaah survival is very dificult, even well after level 50, having new tougher enemies being spawned.
Tbh I didn't find using it too hard on survival, I just picked my fights and tried to end conflicts quick as possible in a hit and run style. I would use a lot of buffjet and eventually I could kill behemoth super mutants 1 on 1. I also made sure to get clothes I could ballistic weave. I found the best way was to just outdamage the opponent over trying to tank stupid amounts of hits
For those wondering where to find the heavy raider armour, I have been looking for the set for the past couple hours and have got 3 of them so far. I have found the best places to look are the mines, so the places on the map with the hammer and sickle and also libertalia (The shipyard). They have lots of raiders usually and they respawn there every couple days, hope this helps :)
Using this build,Yao guai roast,dirty wastelander,chems and other various things that give strength I got 1045 damage on a super sledge👍🏻

You make literally the best character builds out of anyone on youtube, the backstory detail and all the detail put into it in general, just fantastic.
Possible build idea: The cavalier: Focused on embodying the true revolutionary vibe of the game. Using pistols, the lazer musket, and the revolutionary sword to destroy his enemies with a bit of classical flaire.

Survival players, bet u wanna play it right?
Two variants:
-STR 8 END 8 AGI 8, book in agi, grab blitz asap, after big leagues, one point in STR to get rooted, get the crafting perks so u can get better defenses and damage. Priority is Blitz>Big Leagues>Rooted>Crafting perks>Endurance perks>everything else
Make sure to get another point in STR before grabbing the bobblehead in mass fusion and grab the other one in the library, medic will be important later on.
Adamantium skeleton is basically a must, if u get your legs crippled, you die. Chem resistant is also a must, although you're not using chemist, Bufftats+Psychobuff last both for a whooping 8 mins. Clean EVERYTHING first, don't stop, then loot, so u don't waste too many chems.
The other variant:
STR 9 END 10 5 INT
First perk point goes to INT, then grab the bobblehead at the library, very easy to do. Wait to get peckish so u get a -1 END debuff, then use Shaun's crib S.P.E.C.I.A.L book on END, boosting it to 11. Later you'll have 12 thanks to the bobblehead. get tons of chems so u can spam them. Med-X, Bufftats and Psychobuff are essential for this build as they all provide a huge HP boost coupled together. Popping those two together u can have almost 500HP at simply level 10, which is insane. Mobs run away from you sometimes because they simply don't do enough damage. On top of that, they boost your melee damage by 85% (Psychobuff 25% +3 STR and Bufftats +3 STR, every STR point raises melee damage by 10%) Not only that, but they give you +3 Endurance both, and +130 health coupled. This build is all about Endurance stacking of course, which is very, very strong specially at higher levels. Could also lower STR and go for Lone Wanderer, ignore rooted, you can take damage but it is better to not stop in the same place. Best thing is you're close to 21 END with both drugs, solar powered, the book and bobblehead. At 21 END you can sprint without any limitations, you literally don't use any AP for sprinting. Even without 21 END i found that with 17 END and 1 AGI you can sprint for... hell, forever. Jet is basically essential while fighting tougher enemies, but having Med-X and the other chems, coupled with durability perks such as Toughness and Life Giver will turn you into a fucking monster. Needless to say, you need to grab Chemist and Chem Resistant. Make them a top priority after getting your damage and crafting perks. Big Leagues>Chem-related perks>Crafting perks>Endurance perks
Make sure to always have some of the drugs i mentioned above. You won't be using them 100% of the time but against tougher enemies or larger groups they will become essential as u have no other way to close the gap but running. Diamond City Blues is very good for early game and get yourself a jet farm, very easy to do. Have a lot of antibiotics on u at all times cause drugs will still make you sick and the last thing u want is an infection, lethargy or weakness while in combat.
Aquaboy/Aquagirl can come in handy too when u need to make a retreat.
I found the drugs build easier to play with, but the other one demolishes everything, too, and can sprint for longer. Now, while you're still tanky to take a beating thanks to the perks, high end, armor and possibly drugs, play smart. :)

+FudgeMuppet - Elder Scrolls & Fallout I did a Adaptable Survivalist build with a focus on perception endurance and intelligence. use the rifleman perk for better semi auto rifle fire and every crafting perk available end game stats are 5 strength, 10 perception, 8 endurance 7 charisma, 6 Intelligence 5 agility and 3 luck. i find that he relies more on his personal skill and fortitude to survive than luck and is never surprised. prefers long range combat and when in close quarters will create distance to use his rifle again. important perks are rifleman, life giver, medic and all crafting perks. his success is his ability to evolve to any environment he finds himself in. power armor is useful, if he knows that cover and distance will be sparse. get used to having 2-3 different rifles for every situation. level 56 and i have a Gauss rifle that does over 400 dmg with double damage if enemy is at full hp. with the crafting venues all open you are very flexible i find. the good charisma makes him a good hunter to sell hides and etc for caps, or just any loot you find. let me know if you have any other questions.

I feel like it might be better to call this build the juggernaut. A raider is more of an occupation and doesn't explicitly imply low intelligence or high melee skill. The term "juggernaut" ( A huge, powerful and overwhelming force or institution) basically says that this build is an unstoppable beast that rarely even needs ranged weapons.
I miss my true psychopath build from New Vegas. His mind addled by 200 years of faulty cryogenics, his only memories his military training, the murder of his wife, and the kidnapping of Shaun. What emerges from Vault 111 acts more like a ghoul than a man, slaughtering almost anything in its path (except maybe strong and dogmeat). Sadly this route is t possible
Also 1 intelligence/charisma and heavy drug use are a must

+King Shift I actually really like this build idea. It would require some imagination on the player's part, of course, but... (spoiler alert if you aren't that far into the main story)
There's 60 years in between when Shaun is taken and you emerge from the Vault. Shaun later implies that he let you out of the Vault so that you could have your revenge against Kellogg once he outlived his usefulness to the Institute. And Shaun is the foundation of all Institute synths. It's not a huge stretch to imagine that they went back to Vault 111 between 2227 and 2287, as a part of their research into creating the first Gen 3 synth - killing the real Survivor and replacing them with a perfect replica, which after all would have been the second-easiest adult synth to make after one of Shaun himself.
Now in terms of playstyle, you could combine likely traits that the real Survivor would have had with traits that a Synth would naturally have, like high endurance and low charisma. Maybe you start to realize things are wrong on your own when your skill set doesn't match up with your memories, or maybe you have to be told when you arrive at the Institute. Either way, you'd have the choice of either returning to the Institute and serving them as a Courser, or choosing to be free by siding with the Railroad...
Honestly, that should've been the actual plot of the game if it was more story-based than open world.

Good work, I love how fallout 4s system allows such awesome and specialized builds. Also I like how you go into the role playing aspect, fallout 4a story works a lot more in the grey zone (between good and evil), and role playing an evil character is more of a role play than an experience.
I did a unarmed build similar to this, relied on the powerfist you get from swan the whole time. Major difference was i left agility at 1 and brought my luck up to ten, then got all ranks of ricochet and bloody mess. The idea of a slow, lumbering person that literally has bullets bouncing off of him while coming to punch you to death was awesome to me. I also put 1 point into aqua-lad, gets rid of water radiation and lets you swim ( or in my case walk) underwater for as long as you need to. I call him the Terminator.
The scientist build and this one are pretty much two possibilities of the same backstory
I love this build!! Never been a fan of melee attacking in fallout but I tried this and even by the time you hit level 20 this build is badass! Definitely more challenging game play and this has been one of my favourite characters. Thanks for a whole new experience guys. 👍
PS definitely go for the blitz perk after level 50, it adds a great advantage to the raider.
What about a pistol wielding mainly luck-based build next? I chose pistols since (I'm probably wrong) they seem to let you do the most hits in VATS, and more hits in VATS = faster crit build up and more chances for luck perks to proc like Mysterious Stranger and Four Leaf Clover. My SPECIAL was S=3, P=5, E=3, I=2, A=5, L=9 with the You're Special book going into Intelligence so I could get Gun Nut. For perks I started with Idiot Savant and then worked my way down the luck tree with better crits, crit banking, four leaf clover, mysterious stranger, and death becomes you. In agility I focused on gunslinger and action boy, with a point in Mr. Sandman too with a suppressor slapped on my pistol for when I want to be sneaky. Strength perks was just armorer, and in Endurance I took toughness and life giver. Perception I didn't really take anything, I just have it high since you need perception for VATS accuracy, which you need for a luck build since your crit only builds when you actually hit thing in VATS. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can make this better?

Thank you for posting. This gives me some good ideas on how to build a melee character. I kind of stumbled into a really effective build that's possibly overpowered early to mid game, with high Strength, Endurance and Agility. Perks are Big Leagues, Blacksmith, Action Boy and Blitz. I'm using the bat you buy from Moe in Diamond City, fully upgraded. This is for doing almost all combat in VATS, so most of combat is in slow motion. The perks have really good synergy if you like running up and hitting VATS. You can sometimes attack enemies above or below you, as well. You tend to teleport to them, but it's situational. Really fun and super easy.

it wasn't hard for me on the beginning wen I was playing just simply loot EVERYTHING a raider has and you could have 49+ armor at level 4 and a tire iron OR a board.
Legit, used this build as a basis for my first full playthrough, and it was awesome. I'm happy about Bagman, originally a hero of the Wasteland and General of the Minutemen, now a full on monster and Raider boss.

Theres never been many in the base games really, Alternatively we could of done with a pyro/cryo maniac perk. This means we could have buffed Cryolator, Flamer, Molotovs & Cryo nades/mines and the shishkebab. Wich would make the perk much more worth it.

the best weapon for this build is probably the 2076 WORLD SERIES BASEBALL BAT.
also, if you are going to use one drug and one drug only, just go with PSYCHO-JET. you will be UNSTOPPABLE!
most people in the wasteland are wondering if their organs are healthy enough to last the next 20 years while im wondering if mine are healthy enough to last me the next 20 MINUTES given the amount of synthetic adrenaline that im shooting.

Any settlement is probably fine, but for all these ones, you can just kill the inhabitants and take the settlement for yourself right away, no time wasted on any quest, plus the settlement itself in all these cases is a good one

endurance give you more health and that being really tanky is needed for a mellee build

If you can get your hands on a DC Heavy Guard Helmet, the look fits in very well if you want an actual helmet.

Two years later, and this is still my top 3 builds. This build is freakin' unkillable. At 6 days 14 hours and 11 minutes at level 83, I'm freaking unstoppable. I'm now restarting to make Nuka World my main faction.

I really want to see you guys do an elite sniper build. The kind of guy who was sent behind enemy lines to do the most dangerous missions and took out his enemies quietly, before they even knew he was there. He would be a real cloak and dagger type character.
I'm totally stealing this for my dovakiin playthrough lol. All these perks, combined with the bonuses from the iron helmet, and the grognak costume will make my charater a force of nature.

Just get high perception, a ice little coat instead of a big suit of armor, and might as well get the railway rifle to be a more literal railroad sniper
Dude... I literally spent the whole day planning out a Raildroad Agent Sniper, and finding out the optimal special,perks,bobblehead and magazines to get and running on a permandeath rule on survival. I pretty much perfected it and then changed it cause a lot of the roleplaying stuff was later down the levels which i switched around. If you want to see it just send a reply.

So this is crazy...including the backstory, you almost completely listed off my current FO4 character! He was a double agent, who was found out by the Chinese and they tortured him, mangling his face w/ scars. In game now he wears a bandana everywhere, to hide his face. He is a melee machine, though I've gone with a lot different build, at least in that I'm more balanced than the Raider, though I do wear either Raider armor or Power Armor almost exclusively. Great job!

This build can handle most things on survival difficulty, but the tougher legendary mirelurks really pose a problem, they turtle up on almost every hit you throw at them and can hit fast enough to completely cancel most swings you throw their way. It's most noticeable on the slower weapons like the bat or Super Sledge
20+ builds and this one is STEEL my favorite. It's just so RAD to go around destroying things and slaughtering people. Since this build is so PHSYCO, I can't wait to see more like it. i did this on survival difficulty and eventually it works but also kind of doesn't because no matter how much armor you have as well as ballistic weave undergarments hat and glasses you will still get 3HKO'd by almost any behemoth level enemy, most deathclaws etc. mirelurk queens will eat you for breakfast and i can't kill one even at level 54. power armor enemies are hard but if you stock up on buffjet you can literally power through anything.

Grenades are easy to forget you have equipped, so if I decide "Hey, I wanna use muh Shishkebab instead of muh Combat Rifle," I generally find myself trying to execute someone, only to throw a molotov, and then watch the raider and myself burn to a crisp. Minutemen, Goodneigbor, and Far Harbor
Essential enemies:
Nuka World Raiders, Far Harbor Mirelurks, and anyone you have to fight to get a settlement
Equipment:
Download the Liberty Reborn mod so that you can get a Colonial Duster that removes the need for armor
Get the Nuka World DLC and get the Sword of Wonders, the best sword in the game from Oswald the Outrageous
Get the Far Harbor DLC, and get the Captain's Hat from the Captain's Dance quest, which increases your running speed
Make large quantities of Psycho Jet.
Character and playstyle:
The Fencer is a carpenter's son, who always loved to make things with his dad that would help people, especially fences, his favorite thing to build. He also was a fan of the other kind of fencing, and he was in the club for that all throughout high school.
In the wasteland, the cause of the Minutemen will resonate with him, and he'll vow to find every possible settlement in the Commonwealth and make them into a safe place for people to live, each one surrounded by a lovely picket fence.
And to protect the settlements, and the people living in them, he'll get back to his fencing club skills and fight enemies with blade in hand.
In addition to the settlements, he also wants to keep the common people not directly allied with the Minutemen safe, and therefore will find himself drawn to Goodneigbor, and especially its charismatic mayor. Hancock will be his companion for most of the game, and he'll be the one to introduce the Fencer to chems that he can use to increase his fighting abilities. In particular, he'll use Psycho Jet, which lowers the amount of damage he takes and simultaneously makes everything slow down. It's very powerful.
Performance-enhancing drug abuse aside, the Fencer is a morally good person, and he won't take the jobs that involve him taking advantage of other people. For this reason, he'll destroy the Institute and purge the Raiders from Nuka World. Whether he joins the Brotherhood and Railroad is up to you

(This is just a suggestion for starting SPECIAL distribution; to get the perks I suggest below, the quickest option is to put a point into Charisma with the "You're SPECIAL!" book and then go get the Perception bobblehead in Concord).
The character is called the Agent, and though she was born in the United States, her parents were not; in fact, they were both Chinese operatives attempting to steal secrets from the American government. They raised their daughter by more or less training her for worst-case scenarios, teaching her how to evade capture, how to unlock doors with makeshift junk like bobby pins, how to accurately shoot at a distant target, and perhaps most importantly, they taught her how to manipulate and use other people to get what she wanted, teaching her that others did not matter more than her mission. The Agent learned these lessons well, however as she grew into a teenager, her growing exposure to the outside world forced her to question her parents' doctrine, and ultimately she decided that she did not want the life they had designed for her. While she never turned them in to the authorities, she did cut all ties with them, going to college despite their wishes and even marrying an ROTC officer she met at school, a "true patriot" who she felt provided a needed counter-balance to her parents' ideology. Her life was finally normal and peaceful, but of course, that doesn't last, and she's forced to rely on those old skills of infiltration, assassination, and manipulation in order to survive in the Wasteland and find out the truth of what happened to her son.
Gear-wise, she would have very simple garments, like road leathers or Radstag hide outfits, that would help her blend into a crowd, but she would also have charisma-boosting clothes like Reginald's suit. For exploring the wasteland, she shouldn't wear armor all that much, but instead wear full garments that increase her agility or that just look damn cool (the Synth Courser outfit comes to mind). She should have a variety of stealth weapons that range from sniper rifles to Pickman's blade to the Experimental MIRV which, as you suggested in that video, makes for a great overhead stealth weapon.
In terms of perks, I don't have a detailed list, but the ones that come to mind for me are most, if not all, Agility perks, along with Locksmith, Night Person, Sniper and Penetrator (if you're willing to spend three points on leveling up Perception), Life Giver, Black Widow, Lone Wanderer, Inspirational, and Medic. Her SPECIAL attributes are pretty self-explanatory; I put a point into Endurance because I know from my first character that 1 Endurance makes open combat almost impossible even on Easy (the Endurance bobblehead is suggested for a total of 3 and the Life Giver perk), and also into Intelligence because I didn't want her to be an idiot, and plus I wanted to make sure she could get the Medic perk. The Lone Wanderer perk is optional; I picked it because her character is very good at getting people to like her, but her charisma is really a facade as she doesn't much like or trust other people. That said, my Agent travels with Cait as I think it's an amusing contrast, so whatever you think works best.
In terms of factions, I haven't put a lot of thought into that. I think the best fit for her based on the whole espionage angle would be the Railroad, although she could also join the Institute as well, perhaps by working for them to spy for the Railroad (but neglecting their quests out of fear of betraying her cover) until she wakes up one day and realizes that she's no longer working for the Railroad at all.

I was level 37 when I went to Nuka World with this build. I axed Colt with 3 swings, the very first time I got his defenses down with the squirt gun. This build can MASSACRE strong opponents like it's nobody's business.

I can't say I quite agree with the Perk progression. The single most effective skill for Melee/Unarmed is Blitz, so get it first, which means you must start with a minimum AGI of 8. Yes, AGI 9 is required, but you can pick that last point up when you mop up Sanctuary. With Blitz, all you need to do is use a single tick in VATS to close the gap, then slash away - never again do you have to worry about being out of range. At max ranks you cover so much ground, you don't need to bother with mid range weapons like pistols or shotguns.
Rooted's effectiveness largely depends on how much you use VATS. Since I use a Ninja build, it's devastating, but if you prefer to do your work out of VATS, its contribution is greatly diminished.

I love building raiders because it gives my play through a feeling of so much freedom. I always loved the archetype of a pshycotic raider roaming the wastelands going where he pleases and taking what he pleases. I also love the raider build because it gives me killer mad max vibes in fallout. I will forever roam the wasteland shiney and chrome.

I find it best to combine melee with heavy weapons because ordinarily if you're playing the game with a sniper rifle and maybe about 3 - 2 other guns as backups you're probably not going to get to experience and use heavy weapons due to not having enough room in your inventory; this is solved with melee because your probably going to only have 1 preferred melee weapon leaving you tons of room for a minigun.
Can't decide if it looks like a mad max demon or a walking garbage dump...

Hey TSGCharles here something I started an absolute soldier. Which I do suggest using charisma special so u can get local leader and attack dog perks this build relies on commando perk we found out a short advanced combat rifle was the best weapon choice!

I am currently playing with a slightly different melee build. A chem-addict psycho build. In comparison to this build it sacrifices a bit of luck the main luck, endurance and strength stat at to have a higher intelligence to have stuff like extended chem buff time. I'm having a lot of fun with it. There is actually ways to get ALOT of chems making the overall build a lot more efficient then it sounds.

Since he is a raider I would definitely add the chem addiction perk so you can pump yourself full of chems and charge into battle. I feel more like a raider when I inject psycho and hear that familiar battle cry before losing my mind on some enemies.
