    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Today, we’re going to be talking about Lady Gaga’s second studio album, “Born This Way’. After the immense success of her debut album, “The Fame”, it was a big question on how newcomer Lady Gaga could top herself.
    “The Fame” largely centers around fame itself and her love for it; hoping to inspire those to feel as if they had said fame, despite who they are or where they come from. There was a general empowerment across this album.
    Known for her theatrical performance, self-described performance art and helping revive electronic dance music for the general public, Gaga had set the bar pretty high for herself in just one era.
    So how is it possible Gaga was able to find even more success and leave another imprint on the music industry? Let’s find out!

    her starting the album with “marry the night” means a lot to me. the song is mostly about her knowing that she would not give up on her life and drop her dreams. it was such a stark difference to how we all thought lady f-ing gaga would start this album, especially after the fame monster and the massssssivvvve success of it. seeing vulnerability in such a huge pop star was nothing new to gaga, but, in an album of self acceptance and love, that song showed - even if for the first minute - how self hate and deprivation in regards to the lack of success in our lives can still get to us. and then we spend almost the entire rest of the album being empowered. so yeah, the first song really means a lot to me. i know i, and many other people, can say that this album saved my life.

    Yes please more Gaga. Born This Way was destined for huge success no matter what. I like to think an artists record sales and reception is a reflection of the album that came before. With The Fame Monster and Monster Ball tour being so massive, she had so much momentum. BtW was her true Imperial Era and her best body of work. Critics just hopped on the hate train that was starting, which would implode during ARTPOP. Marry the Night and Hair are my choice picks. Hair still brings me to tears. Never forget you Jamey.

    tbh i relate “born this way” to “prism” as they are both huge & important albums in each artists respective careers that aren’t necessarily considered their peak, but helped each of them reach new heights and do things different or unheard of from their previous albums (think, an lgbtq anthem being #1 for 6 weeks, katy performing at the super bowl, etc.)

    Gaga is my god. My religion is little monster. Scheiße, Black Jesus + Amen Fashion and Heavy Metal Lover are my favourites on the album! It's a shame her best tour (Born This Way Ball) had to be cancelled, but her health is always the priority. The artpop act 2 thing makes me so happy! I like to think of BTW as her 3rd because although The Fame Monster was technically an EP, I think it has the power of an album. Also I love your content :)

    I loved both The Born This Way and the ARTPOP eras. Both of these albums are terribly underrated. I honestly thought ARTPOP would be more successful than Born This Way, 'cause Born This Way delved into controversial and risky topics but still managed to be succesful and wasn't really intended for the general public, it was somewhat a dark era, but with ARTPOP I thought it would be directed towards a more general public, more colorful, and it would be toned down somehow, for that reason I believed it would do so much better than Born This Way. After all, I agree, Born This Way was her magnus opus.

      You are totally entitled to your own opinion but to say “born this way terribly underrated” just doesn’t make sense. BTW was Gags’s peak and magnum opus, she had the entire world watching her every move, every single media outlets attention and to add more to this era, a lot of backlash from religious groups for the message she was trying to spread at the time. This was Gaga’s moment! Not saying she isn’t all that anymore but Born This Way was extremely successful and known by many people and the sales, music video views, tabloids and protests say it all.

      @unferk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hogwartsismyhome6474 yeah, underrated, many people started dislking Gaga in this era and didn't realize how incredible this album and its message are. Nobody talks about how important this album is, it deserves so much more.

      @@unferk I get what your trying to say but from my personal opinion I’ve heard a lot of people that I’d consider “locals” that acknowledged the impact her Born this Way era brought to the music industry and society as a whole. Just last month I overhead a couple of teachers that I had in the past talk about how progressive and exciting this era truly was, she was breaking all sorts of records and standers in the industry, but I also agree that this was the era that the general public started to steer away from Gaga because of what she supported and many didn’t agree with her opinions and stance. Needless to say from what I’ve read and seen many critics have appreciated and applauded for what this album was in during its time. (Also I really hope you don’t think I’m disagreeing with what you said, I totally understand and agree, just wanted to share my point of view and opinion.)

    Some could say that it aged badly and I could agree. But this album is so important, the whole message and performance, THAT was timeless. Some people may not connect with her and that's fine, but she was revolutionary the moment she released the song Born This Way (no matter straight, gay or bi, let's live in transgender life). This album is very Gaga-ish, so maybe it was not for the general public at first, but the album said: "This album is for you". She made the album for her fans and she had an ambition: to spread a beautiful message. I love all the songs, but at some point I don't think it's about the album that much, but about the era itself.

      @@hamletvillilo6838 i don't think comparing chromatica to joanne is a valid comparison. with all due respect, she had a ton of things to say with chromatica. just like she did with joanne and those albums mean different things to her. to say that one is very generic compared to the other is not really a good way to look at it when both have their strengths and weaknesses. but gaga doesn't fail to come up with a very good body of work for each era.

    BTW is her magnum opus no questions asked... Most definitely her most daring and experimental album yet.
    Love that ARTPOP is having it's moment rn but i think it's more motivated by commercial succes. While BTW has the better numbers, people still tend to forget about BTW.. hope it gets it's renaissance some day too

    I was 11 when this album came out and it just grabbed me and shaped my entire life, the way I see things, the way I react to stuff, the way I love myself and others, the way I respect, appreciate and enjoy the life that I was given and most importantly the way I feel about art in general. The impact that it has over the world and how much it is possible to create something so powerful if you are honest and unapologetic about it. Later I discovered more and more about that though many other different artists, but Born This Way was the best timing for me personally. I am not going to say that it's the best album of all time, the most experimental and stuff like that, because I am aware that there were tons of stuff like that in the past. Now I am 22 years old filmmaker and musician and of course I know so much about the history of arts, but when I was 11 I knew nothing and Born This Way was all those things to me. It created my perspective of the world and I forever will be grateful for that.
    I love this album more than anything in my life. And I love the person behind that album even more.
    What a masterpiece!

    this is definitely her magnum opus. this album was a love letter to her fans, and its message remains relevant today. also, she put marry the night, yoü and i, and edge of glory (her 3 best songs) on one album, and it’s not supposed to be her best? not to mention its supported by songs like judas, hair, black jesus + amen fashion, government hooker, sheiße, etc? no it’s definitely her best work

    Side note and no shade but born this way only sold the way it did first week because billboard counted the album being sold for 99p or something like that, that’s why she sold over a million first week

    • @troopbuster
      @troopbuster 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That is true but when those 99p sales weren't included in the debut numbers it still sold over 700,000 full price copies, and there also isn't any way of knowing whether or not those who bought it for 99p on Amazon did so because it was cheap or because they genuinely wanted the album. Given the immense success of The Fame and the hype for Born This Way, I'd hedge my bets and say it was the latter. I guess what I'm saying is that even without the discounted copies it still sold immensely well.

    The Edge of Glory deserved at least one week at #1, pop hits of that caliber don’t come around every summer!
    the album itself though, man... what a trip. it really helped a lot of young people who were struggling with their identities around that time, and it had such striking visuals and sonic palettes. imo yes it was her peak, but she certainly still has that creativity in her. it just feels like Chromatica was maybe her farewell to dance-pop and now it’s time to move on to rockier sounds. we’ll see what she does after House of Gucci and Bullet Train, she knows how to keep her fans on their toes

    I think BTW is incredibly pop and although the sounds are slightly different in small elements (is a guitar) it's still pure electronic pop dance throughout.
    I think it's the subject matter of the songs that are quite broad.
    Either way, it's a massively exciting and full energy album.
    I love it!

    I am not a monster whatsoever but i give credit where its do n Gaga trailblazed thru the early 2010s wit unstoppable force!!
    She singled handedly changed the pop game with her eccentric n unconventional ways, by just being HERSELF n had allthe original pop divas following her trends!!
    I really hate how the media cause friction between her & Nicki.
    Ever wonder why Nicki worked with all the other pop girls, except GAGA?! They were dominanting their fields respectively but we never got that collab thanks to the messy media.
    To me, a Gaga/Nicki track holds the same power as a Beyonce/Rihanna track (Or a track with all 4) haha can us fans start a petition/hashtag for the 4 Horsewomen of music to work together

    Born this way is one of the best albums ever. Yes, it is over the top but why should that be bad? Its experimental, its unique and it can barely be classified as "pop". Its a genre for itself, and so is ARTPOP.
