    I'm pretty sure people who buy these are just happy to know it will still be driving fine in about 25 years. Not a bad reason to buy one.

      thorandmoljnir I have one,Good car to practice techniques of driving on. Good in snow (just gotta be twitchy af), handles nicely on dry (trail brake it to get some fun) and a bit understeery in rain (tires fault mostly). I have the CVT and the bad part is the Trans. In D it is dead, tries to rip itself apart on WOT but put it in S mode and it will sing its baby 2ZR heart out 😂😂. Would trade it for a 2018 Civic Si tho. 😆😆

    Everything she said is true but she left one thing off. The Corolla is a very low maintenance car and it is probably the reliable and dependable car on the road .

    Corolla is the car that makes the statement. I will get you there. Not in style, not expensively. I will always be there for you. Take away the glamour, and you get the soul of why I always loved Toyotas. They just go, and go, and go. We had allot of Toyotas growing up. Only our crap box Corona back in 1969. Will I buy one of these? Heck no. A Civic, or Mazda 3, or others will thrill me more. But I will never bad mouth a Corolla. Ever.

    I don't understand why people are saying it lacks power on the highway. I recently bought one and I have no problem picking up speed to merge on the freeway. It picks up speed pretty quickly and it handles turns very smoothly. I've already driven it through some treacherous California highways and I have no complaints. I mean, it obviously isn't a luxury sport car so I don't know why people expect it to be a top-of-the-line super car with 300+ horsepower (this car obviously wasn't made for racing or off-roading lol). What I do know is that it saves you a lot of money on gas and is very smooth, easy to drive, and nice to look at. The speakers on it are pretty great too! Overall, I recommend this car if you want something that will get you from A to B safely and economically.

      I agree also I have a 17 Corolla xse and I’ve let my mom drive it and she thinks it feels faster than a Ford Focus 2.0L that she drives and it hugs the road better and it’s more comfortable more space and you can really tell the quality in the Corolla because when you start the focus and drive it you feel the vibration of the motor but you can’t in the Corolla

  • @tanjie1232
    @tanjie1232 7 ปีที่แล้ว +41

    People always judge the Corolla for things it's not suppose to be. People need to look at Corolla for what it is really suppose to be, which is to be practical, reliable and economical. And it defiantly succeeds. Also, for all you civic fans, I've driven both the new Corolla and Civic Turbo. I actually preferred the Corolla considering the Civic is slow and unresponsive, has an awful infotainment system, is super low and cramped, and has horrible visibility. All of which are not problems in the Corolla.

      The CVT-based powertrain in the 2016/2017 Honda Civic doesn't make those drony/whiney sounds and there's more than enough juice in the midrange for those highway passes. Comparatively, Toyota's CVTs are primitive.

It needed some suspension work, its on its 3rd battery, and i just replaced the alternator about 2 months ago. It runs and drives great. I commute about 50 miles a day. The car gets about 34mpg highway. Corolla is the best car. They last and last.

My old car (which was a gift from my dad) always gave me so much trouble like I’ve spent over 3k on a shitty Ford Fiesta. I have had nothing but Toyota products because of my first used 1996 Toyota Corolla, that was sold to me with 135k miles and I went on to keep it for 6 more years and sold it with 287k miles. I commuted 2 hours a day the entire time and my car would not die. Hardly had any maintenance and I was convinced that this was the best car a person could have. After that i purchased a Scion TC that was excellent, then after that a brand new Lexus ES350h and 8 years after that a brand new 2020 Lexus RX 450h. Toyota's are one of the BEST cars regarding reliability on the roads today!

    I’ve personally owned three corollas. A 2009, 2016 and a now a 2017. I decided with the market right now I get the Toyota Safety sense and the radar cruise control. I have absolutely zero problems on my 2016 Corolla and drove the hell out of it. It always starts, it’s great on gas, the back seat is a good size, the trunks pretty big for a compact car.
    I have the SE so my seats feel really high quality with the softex leather seats. There’s a ton of cup holders and bottle!
    Yeah it doesn’t have a ton of power, you just have to how to drive the car and it will scoot. It’s a good car!

    I had one of these as a rental for about 11 days recently. For my daily commute, I drive a Lexus IS, so of course the Corolla's handling was not impressive. However, it rode and handled just as well as I expected, and honestly, the interior was better-looking than I might have guessed it would be. The infotainment was also pretty easy to use. Gas mileage was decent at about 30 MPG combined city and highway driving when I gave the car back to Hertz. The only real complaints for me were lack of power on the highway and some noticeable creaks when hitting rougher roads. Overall, it actually was pretty nice to drive, and I might recommend it for someone who just wants to commute and get decent gas mileage (if they don't care about driving fun or acceleration times).

    Hello Jodi. Great review. I like how you put those 'haters' in check about the 2017 Corolla. I personally just purchased the SE trim about 6 weeks ago, and I couldn't be happier. With all the newest 'bells & whistles' Toyota has done a superb job with this vehicle. I live in Los Angeles (fortunate for me I don't have a long commute each day) so the drive to and from work is a breeze. This car has features that are very intuitive and very comfortable when on the highway. I would agree that the response of the engine could be a bit quicker, but what an affordable product. Thanks for your excellent review.

    The Corolla and the Civic are very solid vehicles. I have had 1 Corolla and 4 Civics. I test drove the new Civic and was really impressed, specially the 1.5 turbo engine. I ended up getting a VW Golf Worlfsburg. For my taste, it looks nicer and more mature. I feel the body style of the Civic is geared more towards a younger generation and I was not sure how its style would look 10-15 years from now. It was a matter of preference for me. Not bashing the Civic. I had good experiences in them. The Corolla? very good car, but very uninspiring and completely gutless with no passing power on the highway, like Jodi said. Plus, and most importantly for me, no hatchback availability which was what I was looking for. The Golf might look small, but the versatility of the hatchback is great. Anyways, great review. Thank you AutoGuide and Jodi.

    I have a 2015 Corolla S, Rear Disk Brakes are an option, and is a must have option. Also, In ECO mode, which is the standard mode, the transmission is rubber bandy, but if you put the sport mode button, what the car does is change the CVT ratios to match a traditional 6 speed auto and takes away that rubberband feeling. I get about 38MPG average, since most of my driving is highway.

      Unfortunantly, most teenagers wreck their first car very quickly. This means asking your parents for a used car and excellent driving lessons may make more financial sense, especially if you fix the car yourself. Chrysler 200s. and jeep Cherokees loose value quickly enough while being easy enough to fix to make this work. Why buy a wonderful new car if statistically, you being a teenager, will most likely total it in 24 months anyways.

    Toyota more than any other automakers is the reason GM and Ford struggling so badly. They no who they are they pick categories and make just one car for that category, killing off cars that are not excelling and bringing in newer models for those same categories. While GM stupidly competes against itself, making several car in the same category.

    Sounds like the current Corolla is not at the top of the class anymore. I've always had a problem with Toyota interior quality. Cheap looking plastics and horrid seats that make my lower back cramp up. There are much more pleasant and livable competitors out there.

    the only thing i dont like about the car is that when you give it gas it sounds loud and terrible. i think its a combination of both the engine and transmission. i will say though that it feels quicker with the cvt than the last generation did with the 4 speed auto. its leeps and bounds better than the last corolla. sit in one and see how much rear legroom it has . it has 41.4 inches of legroom. a mazda 3 has 35.8, a ford focus has 33.2, elantra at 35.7, 37.4 for the sentra. a vw passat only has 39.1 inches legroom . even the big brother camry has 38.9 legroom.

    I have a 2016 corolla. Only thing that really runs it... CVT. drives me nuts and cant wait to trade it in. I regret not getting it with the 6 speed manual. I think its goes decent on the highway. a lot better then in the city cause the CVT does terrible for acceleration. I have the S model so it does have all wheel disc brakes.

    The 3, Elantra, (sport ), and Civic rule this class ....Corolla is not in the same league as these three. Maybe they will be if they drop a 2 litre turbo, or just drop a bigger engine in there. Also give styling similar to the new Camry coming out this year.

    • @rainystorm88
      @rainystorm88 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      sylwia ryzak scion iA is a rebadged Mazda2 (Mazda engine and transmission and interior design). So it's much smaller than a corolla and more fun to drive. It all depends on what you'll be using the car for.

    Ugh I used to not even care about Corollas till I moved to Central Florida, now I see them everywhere!!! On top of that, they are in fact horrible drivers, blocking turn lanes, cutting across 3 lanes of traffic because they missed their turns...you get the idea. I suddenly hate what basically is a decent car because of the people who buy them!

      Kia is ranked number 6 in reliability and Hyundai is just behind Kia according to Consumer Reports reliability survey which is far better than Honda and they'll have ten year warranties so I'm pretty sure they're not gonna break down in four years.

      As someone who works on cars for a living, Kia-Hyundai are one of the most reliable brands out there in the market. That's why they offer a product confident 7 year warranty on their products - NO OTHER BRAND has the balls to stand behind their products like that for good reason.
