I know this is a pretty old video, but to those researching the 2017 Corolla SE used and find this video? There are a few discrepancies as being someone who's driven it for about a year now, about to reach 45k miles having started at 29k, and here are a few things:
The car starts and stops exactly when you want it to every day.
On "regular" gas, the throttle response and fuel economy are generally better in sport mode.
CVT's drone, yes! and goodness does this car drone! (Especially in its simulated manual mode.)
Road noise? It's a corolla, it's a tiny car, there is plenty of it. In the video its ride quality is compared to the Camry of the same year; unfortunately, it really can't be, the Camry is so smooth car drive and be in it'll spoil you.. Not the car you're looking for if you want to be crazy comfy.
Those cool little front fangs on the SE? Watch raised speed bumps, steep driveway entrances, or low curb exits/dips, because they'll kill those little fangs especially if you opt to lower it like I did. (Drove it before and after the lowering, ride quality is the same)
Piano black gets tons fingerprints, so don't touch it unless you must or if there's dust. Tech is nice tho, car's full of it!
Car is an absolute budget bargain. Circa 130 hp, I got mine with 29k miles on the od, and I have some serious questions about the performance figures. I've clocked in at 7.8 seconds 0-60mph in it which is incredibly fast considering most websites and sources rank it at 10 seconds. That's almost as fast as the Miata of the same year! Admittedly, the transmission makes it a little boring, but it definitely makes a nice sound with the window down on a calm highway. Don't get me wrong, it won't put you in the back of your seat but it's on some nice tires, it's decently quick for an under 20k car, it gets 30mpg city and 36 highway (Although I've gotten up to 47 highway) It's an impressive little car if you aren't obsessed with speed speed speed. It's also stylish enough to look good in your garage, but not too crazy or loud to get you pulled over 24/7. It's a budget car loaded with tech and good fuel economy, take it as it is and you'll love the thing.

I have the 17 XSE in Falcon Gray metallic. I agree so much that sport mode, while depleting your tank quicker, also makes for a better ride. A solution to road noise is to play your music and focus on it. I just always play my music through Spotify or on XM 51 BPM and never really notice road noise. Also, I agree about being careful with steep areas not to scratch the bottom of the "fangs". I am conscious of this with some curbs at convenient marts. However, I'm not sure why you lowered it even further besides looks. I can see why you'd have issues with scratching then. It is definitely a great car with heated seats and a sunroof! I also bought it with great tires and I love the rims. I got it with 31k miles end of 2019 and now have almost 41k miles on it. Your assessment of this car is exactly how I feel about mine!

@@isaiahkaulaity9467 Oh yes, there is a difference as I stated above. However, the drive train, chassis and body is the same with the exception of what was stated above.

so I know what they share in common.... they are boring as hell to drive! BORING! maybe reliable etc but damn is it a snore fest to drive

I'm confused, do you intend to buy a Corolla and expect it to perform the same as a charger, camero or mustang? Of course not. It is supposed to be a well equip compact car that gets you from point A to point B in a safe, efficient and reliable manner.

    • @KuyaArbee

SkiLLySellsCars I'm saying people honestly now have better options to choose from other than a corolla, the corolla is definitely behind the engine department and doesn't offer anything, and you're right if you need an appliance to drive point A to B then yes the corolla is a good choice I just don't think it doesn't offer anything above and beyond its competition, had one for two years a S Premium, while reliable as expected, it never made me want to just get up and drive.....It was honestly a very diluted experience lol, the steering is numb, the suspension was terrible especially the torsion beam in the back, also driving in the rain was so terrible and the car never felt planted to the road, and to top it all off the audio system was super weak! Especially for rear passengers, I learned my lesson , I'll never buy another corolla unless they decide to actually update the suspension , engine etc buy I doubt it . But to each their own, my experience with the car was just mediocre at best

Well then I have a little bit of news that might interest you. They are going to be moving things towards a rear wishbone suspension set up as well as giving a couple engine tweaks in the near future. The steering will not change however as they go for more of a laid back driving experience. Something like a Honda however, I would class as a drivers car. They feel a little more planted, feel the steering a little better and you feel the car more while doing so. Just something Toyota has done for years.

I also wanted to let you know that this is now completely unbiased as I no longer work for Toyota and have accepted a job with another brand yet to be disclosed on this channel. But more exciting reviews with a lot better HP soon.

Too bad Toyota put all that bs electronic stuff on it. I can stay in the lane just fine. I don't need/want help from the car. Its not "optional " because its compulsory, they force u to pay $2000 for something you don't need. Its Guaranteed to cause expensive warning messages as the car ages. Big disappointment for a legendary car.

Does the daytime running light stripe(below the headlight) can only be turn on daytime? Can I turn it on at nighttime?

I believe it does. Not 100% sure but I no longer have access to the Corolla to check as I am now with a different brand. If we get one in on our pre-owned lot I will make sure I check that for you.

You can but you won’t be able to turn on the headlights so you won’t have any light visibility, there’s a mod where you can have both of them on at the same time during the day and at night.
