Toyota celebrates a half-century of its Corolla with the 2017 lineup, which packs new standard equipment and safety features and includes a limited-edition 50th Anniversary trim. With almost 50 million sold around the world over the last 50 years, the Toyota Corolla is the world’s best selling car model. But one of the reasons for the Corolla’s success has always been its cost effectiveness, and its segment has gotten packed with worthy competitors that would love to take some of Toyota’s market share.
All Corollas use a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder that puts out 132 hp and 128 lb-ft of torque with EPA estimates of 27 mpg city, 36 highway, and 31 combined. A version of that engine re-tuned for efficiency powers the LE Eco trim, where it puts out 140 hp and 126 lb-ft and gets estimates of 30, 34, 32. The Eco trim’s single transmission option is a continuously variable transmission our reviewer found loud and unsatisfying, but other trims can opt for a 6-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. Toyota carried the same old 1.8 liter engine over from the previous generation Corolla because it's so reliable.

I really don't care what he says. I bought the same exact 50th edition and I totally love it. It does everything and more. Some of the negative things he said about this model is not true. All I can say if you don't own the 50th-anniversary tour missing out on a great production line.

I enjoy my '17 Corolla SE. Does everything I need it to do well. Sure it's not fast or flashy. It it's full of good stuff and once you learn to manipulate the CVT you can actually get the power to do what you need it to do. Combined MPG of about 36 so far after 9K miles. My daughter gets this car next year when she turns 16. With any luck and standard maintenance maybe my 5 year old will get the car too. That's why I bought it in the first place. It should last forever.

It's a great car. The CVT took getting used too but the computers will soon adjust to your driving. I have a 2016 Corolla S Premium fully loaded with Navigation, Sport mode, paddle shifters, sunroof etc. At over 50,000 miles I have no problems.

You can get the 'SE with the optional premium package with adds the moonroof, smart key (push to start) and upgraded Etunes Plus system for just over $20,000. The SE has the sportier looks, so its better to get it instead of the LE

Although its a decent review, Oddly one of his biggest complaints was stopping distance from 60, well hes a personal reviewer and he was taking 60 mph as his base. All reviews are different due to the driver however let me just toss this out there "Car and Driver" did stopping distance of these cars from 70 -0 mph well because the mast majority of us drive at 70 MPH not 60 on the highway and here were there results with 2017 model cars.
    Toyota Corolla.. 70 0 mph, 175 ft.
chevy cruise 70-0 mph, 168 ft
Honda civic 70-0 mph, 178 ft
Subaru legacy 70-0 mph, 173 ft.
Nissan sentra, 70-0 mph, 191 ft.
    mazda 3 70-0 mph, 185 ft.
Kia forte 70-0 mph, 184 ft.
So in retrospect the Toyota corolla in these real world driving speeds is pretty good, just above average compared to the 6 other cars on this list. So I really can't see his complaint on stopping distance. Again not a bad review a little biased but all depends on the driver and how the car was tested, bottom line is the Corolla is no where near the worst when it comes to real world braking.

The engine is perfect!!! It's not loud at all. There are lots of cars with only 108HP that are much louder. This one is 132HP, runs great, the interior looks fine. Hey, just look at all those V6 and V8 drivers driving at 25mph when the speed limit is 45mph.

If you buy or lease a new vehicle pickup a set of front pads from Autozone. Duralast; Gold Ceramic or Max. I found the 1st & 2nd row headroom sucks. No AA or ACP will make buyers walk away as well.

    • @rbielarski
      @rbielarski 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Unfortunately, with all the distracted driving going on out there now (cell phones/texting etc.) manufacturers are making even more money on these safety tech features because people will not use any discipline while operating a motor vehicle.....hence a lot of parents & drivers feel it is necessary so they can play & drive.

Had a 16 when my 2010 Corolla was in the shop from an wreck, absolutely hated it. The cvt is one of the worse I've driven, seats were uncomfortable, and engine alot louder than mine. Even with 165k worry free miles I wouldn't trade mine a for a new one even if it was free.

    • @MikeDPerkins

I mean drum brakes in a modern car?! Just cheap. I don't know who buys these things but I feel sorry for them in life. Just a bad to mediocre vehicle. The Civic, Mazda 3, Chevy Cruze, Hyundai Elantra, ECT. All are much better in every area. Only nice feature is LED headlamps.
