- Surprise! The Wuling MINI EV Cabrio, the world's cheapest electric convertible, is still overpriced and wildly impractical! But boy is it fun!

I like how Chinese manufacturers are not shy of making silly stuff.
a cheap electric convertible none the less I would buy this in a second if it was sold in the states
@Carfan678 good thing it's not. Lots of corner cutting in terms of safety from the Chinese
@@BuggsOpare you criticizing GM? because they own half of this brand shares
@@BuggsOp Not exactly when you factor in the price. At less than 20k USD, what level of safety are you expecting? If it has about the same level of safety as a Carolla, that's a win. This car in the video is only 14k, so accept what you're paying for.
Watch the tesla cybertruck the
"Babe please open the top it's hot in here"
"I can't babe we're low on range"
I have always want to get one of the Chinese electric cars, unfortunately I live in a “democracy and freedom” western country, who declares have a free market but doesn’t allow Chinese cars to get in….
Move to China.
@@lukerinderknecht2982 of course, that’s exactly what I am gonna do.
@@Self-funded50Cents You know what happend with US cars industry happend, when Japanese Cars start import to US? After US give them know-how, how to make a car??? 😂 Just learn od from this era
Canada is getting ready to let in BYD. As to whether or not there will be a 102.5% tariff is a different question entirely.
My sentiments exactly.
Any idiot who accuses this small car of being unsafe cannot deny that it is safer than a motorcycle.
Red Communist Bandit baby got feelings hurt. Cry harder.
that's like saying cigs with filters are safer than cigs without filters
Electric scooter with 10 inch tires here. In Calgary Canada, a two inch pothole is life endangering, and yet I'm still alive.
Don't worry about the geniuses that replied to you. People enjoy bashing anything that doesn't make them cream their jeans. It's far too overpriced for the effort and usability but it's not complete garbage like the Yugo, Pinto, Chevette, and so many other time bombs.

Mini EV Cabrio kinda feels like a road-legal golf cart to me...
Looks like my Geo Metro from the 1990s
All EVs are upgraded golf carts.
The best part about it? It comes with a key as standard equipment instead of those plastic fobs
At $14000 it's still a steal, personally I'd add 14"150 in the front and 14"165 in the rear it should look supper sleek
14,000
@@Pasthimsorry n thanks for the correction,n yes it is a steal
Awesome! Finally a decent review of the cabriolet. And the fun only start at 7:17
What on Earth are they smoking pricing this thing so high? That's as expensive as much larger, much longer range, and much more practical EVs like the Baojun Cloud or BYD Dolphin! I can see a cabrio version addidng some price, but tripling the price of the original Mini EV? That's just nuts.
That's cause they're not actually selling these. This version of the mini ev is more like a halo car, used to grab headlines and show people the possibilities. But no, they're not actually mass-producing this model.
You are correct, it's essentially a marketing exercise, not a real mass-produced product.
Awesome to have physical controls for HVAC. Very cute little car. Nice video. Keep up the good work.
If the Chinese can have our phone boxes, why can't we have their cars?
"National Security"
*cackles in Colonizer*
This type of car in China is used by grandparents to pick up their grandchildren. They have a nickname called "HAPPY GRANDPA"😆
老头乐😂
maybe "grandpa's joy"
Perfect for Hawai'i! It would be a plaything for poor folks like me, too. Not just the rich.
This is just a fun car to toy around in
Hey 👋👋👋👋. That's awesome 😎😎😎😎 a Wuling EV Cabriolet. Really Cool.
I kind of love this car and have a feeling it would really work best in small island nations where you want fun over practicality for tourists and where range is never really going to be an issue. Maybe Wuling should open a Cuban factory and really get that price down to say $6K USD, minus the battery which really should be leased separately in cars like these where you want to get as many buyers into one as possible! I know the same problem happened with Smart Fortwo my current whip... A great car that was horribly overpriced for what you got but its still a fun urban runabout that was even good on solo road trips!
yknow , a swappable bat is actually not a horrible idea
Fun car, thanks for the review. We love small 2 person cars.
We have been driving Smart Cabrio's for over 20 years, as our only car and allround daily driver.
Even holiday trips from Netherlands to Austria, 2000km is no problem.
When China could produce a small EV Cabrio with 320km range and fast charging, (like the Fiat 500e Cabrio) for under €25.000, we would buy it instantly.
This Wuling is enough for size and cabrio, but falls a bit short in range, fast charging and drivability.
MG cyberster
There is no way on earth you will ever be able to buy a new Cyberster for €25,000
@@Wheelsboy it's expected to cost around £50,000
for 320km small two person electrical car, you can check cherry small ant eQ1, which is about 93000 rmb in China. But with cabiro requirement, i think it is impossible for the price
I’ve done that drive from Salzburg to Amsterdam a couple times. sure wouldn’t want to be in one of these electric golf carts on that Autobahn
convertible version need redesign and more structure to strengthen the body. i think that's why it's so expensive, compared to the standard version.
Hi Dude! This is so good! Would love to see a TEST DRIVE of this very cool affordable EV. :) Please put it through it's paces next time. Backing up, freeway, and turning radius, etc.
This is sssooooo freaking cute😊
interesting .. liking the tall seat position, looks roomy inside
This is a very fun car but i still like the classic Wuling Mini EV the best
none of these mini EV have fast charging, that's why I got my Geely Panda Mini🤣🤣
This mini ev make profit by sell carbon points.
In 1932 Ford Motor Company sold their v8 powered two door convertible Deluxe Roadster for the 2024 equivalent of $11,200 which came with a full set of tools, full tank of gas, and complimentary service after break-in. Now the cheapest convertible sold in the USA is over $30k, and even this car is still almost $3k more than what Henry Ford could do 92 years ago.
hold up, isn't that just the Wuling Air EV with its roof chopped off
The Wuling Air EV and MINI EV are the same platform and share a lot of components.
@@Wheelsboy that makes sense, thanks for the info.
They definitely won't sell the convertible to Indonesia tho 😔
@@Wheelsboy The Cabrio was inspired by 袁启聪's modded version of MiniEV, which he literally chopped off the roof.
I would love to have a chance to see in person in the states and perhaps then, buy it. This vehicle is perfectly suited for basic driving and fun, in local distances.
Basically the modern equivalent of the Yugo Cabrio and Geo Metro convertible.
Better tha both. It fits in more of smart cabonet.
In the US the physical key would be a security feature, assuming somebody actually wanted to steal this baby.
😂
I bet 4 guys can pick it up and run away with it .
It's small and cute .
I was wondering what car are you're driving currently as your personal car??
He bought an ATTO 3
I'd pay extra to delete the voice control.
Great review thanks.
Any chance you could review the Geely Panda Mini EV?
I would love to have one of those.
It does't look like a beetle, it looks like a Lego Duplo block with joke wheels glued to it...🤣.lol
I’d buy one in a heartbeat ❤️❤️❤️
Manual doors yes. I don't wanna drown trapped in a sinking car, unable to open the damn doors.
Great review!
Super Amazing ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊. Guys that's really cool Open Top fun❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊.
Love Chinese EV car
You've clearly never driven an Oldschool convertible, this lil car literally captures the essence. You could die at any minute, the whole thing jiggles like jello on a washing machine, it's just for fun!
love your voice, you sound like Patrick Bateman
Looks like one of those sit-in bathtubs on wheels.
Thank you so much 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊.
Weird, at the end of the video it looked like the Mini-EV had come to UK shores!
In Shanghai there is whole little city that looks like England 😅 it’s called Songjiang
@@damianbaginski1991 Thames Town is *in* Songjiang, but it's only a tiny part of it. Songjiang is one of Shanghai's largest districts, and outside of Thames Town looks nothing like England.
@@damianbaginski1991 One of 9 "new towns" commissioned by government of Shanghai in 2001, each about a different nation and contracted to a design firm from there respectively. The Songjiang Thames New Town though ended up being a cliche.

good for golf, or resort hotel vehicle
26c Degrees is warm? temp is definitely relative...
Having owned a convertible in Shanghai (which is reasonably close to Zhejiang where your plate is registered), you get maybe 1 month of usable weather. Its either too cold, too hot or too rainy otherwise.
They're nice to have for that few weeks where you can have the top down, but for the other 11 months of the year. Much nope.
hahah,you re right.
Oh the things I would do to have this featured on Donut....
this reminds me of my geo metro convertible 😍
Hey Ethan! Love your reviews! Can you do one for the JAC Yiwei 3/EV3/E30X, the thing has like 4 different names, but is build on a whole new infrastructure with Huawei and long range
Hopefully we get a chance to drive an Yiwei at some point!
Hey Ethan, considering buying this 2023 wuling jiachen for a family of 5. It's the hybrid version, it looks really interesting. Any opinions on it? Please share! Thanks!
Never driven a Jiachen, but Wuling vehicles offer incredible value. If you like it and it suits your needs, then I say go for it!
I don't care what it takes. I NEED THESE TINY FUCKING MICRO CARS IN MY DAMN LIFE 😭😭😭
The structural integrity of a wet noodle :'D my man. Glorious review and fair points all around I'd say. Thank you.
This EV looks like something housewives use to run errands with. Local range only.
9:05 I'd say it is not practical, instead of "usable"
GM in US :big car huge truck gas monster
GM in China:teeny tiny EV car
这个在中国叫老头乐。In China we call this vehicle Old Fella's Happiness
This car deserve bigger wheels
Between this and the Mazda Miata convertible roadster, I'd gladly go into debt to get the latter. It feels like you're not actually getting your money's worth buying this car.
Thanks
I feel like for $14k, getting a used convertible like a Miata would be a better value. Granted, this is from a US perspective, not a Chinese perspective, but surely this can't be the most affordable convertible option in China, right?
$10k more for less roof.
Yeah, less cloth, higher def. Stat. We animation fans understand the idea behind it.
Cayman vs Boxter😂
😅😅
It’s $10,000 more than the original Mini EV which is fare more practical and acceptable, especially with the price of $4500
That cabrio sounded very spanish
I live in England and I often wonder whether these Chinese vehicles would pass our fairly strict Euro ncap crash tests? 😂 Love your channel keep up the good work! 😁 👍 🇬🇧 🏴
if the test speed is 40km/hr, the car's usual driving speed , I think it will pass. Anything over 100km you are surely to see a fireball.
Not these mini EVs but the other vehicles are all Euro NCAP 5 stars, some are class leading.
The mini evs are not known for safety. This cabriolet version isn't being mass-produced, and the weird gameboy verison has low sales. So, if we only focus on the standard mini evs, which retails for about 4k USD, I don't think anyone can reasonably expect much protection in them. It's like a Citreon Ame with actual metal panels. But hey, you get a moving metal box with air conditioning at 4k USD, tough chance finding other options.
FYI, the MG4 being sold in the UK is 100% Chinese and has absolutely nothing to do with the UK, despite having a familiar badge. It received a 5 star rating from Euro ncap. As long as you don't cheap out, most cars would be safe, regardless of the country of origin. Of course, emphasis on "Most", there are always outliers.
Your EURO tests? 🤣 I thought that UK is part of USA. 🤣🤣🤣
@@arbutus12 🍆 👌
I never laughed so hard! 😆
If this wasn't made in China, it would probably be a better car than a Taycan.
When it was $5k it was amazing...at $14k it's not.
There is no bad product, only poorly priced product😂
You've summarized my 10 minute video in just one sentence haha
@@Wheelsboy we must thank the data saver!!
The first car was the ox cart!
I will definitely take it $5k in USA if it s available
Absolutely lovin it❤❤❤❤.
It looks like a 'Tooned' Hot Wheels car.
I LOVE it, even despite it looking hilariously awful
A car that is more expensive and worse than the Wuling Mini EV?🤯 This supposed to be viable for bringing kids to a nearby school but the lack of extra seats and space... I would be better off with the original Wuling mini EV modified with a large sun roof.
Def not meant for families. Most ppl that buy these are students, single people or the elderly.
So that's why I'm still single! I'm not driving one of these!!😆
Funny car I like it, it's perfect and if it has been repainted with glow in the dark paint😅
被你借到了😁
Oxcart ride 😂
The Cheapest means the junk.
I like how you look down on this China built cars. OK, let's see how the American EV car are built at this same price. You pay peanuts and expect the moon.
Sounds so much fun to drove ha ha.....bumpy ans noisy 😅 and a sweat box at 26 degree's
The people saying "bring it here to the USA" don't realize they're smart for NOT bringing it here. All you'd need is one of these in a bad accident on the interstate, or one fire, and not only would this brand have an instant PR disaster, but it would further ingrain the reputation that Chinese brands make horribly unsafe cars, earned or not. The risk would be too high for them to enter our market unless they had a more conventionally sized sedan or SUV.
Chinese cars are some of the safest in the world, Google some of the breads like nio, Li, ByD etc
BYD seal just got its Euro NCAP 5 stars along with previous Atto 3
Funny thing is the US own half of this.
not safe
I want one so bad hahaha
终于看到车轮哥😂
Gimme.
this is cool
It looks like an adult sized child's pedal car, is it made by Fisher Price.
No bootlid is just appalling!
I can buy 10 of these instead of tesla
Does the car come with a burial plot?
3:45 Maybe because you shouldn't use your left feet in that area at all?
We need this in india
Put in a Honda cb300 engine in it then you off😂
🥹I want one
No way 😂😂😂
It's a chick magnet
👍👍👍
What our leader don’t understand is china industry consumer product power of production .
We can never catch that up as it’s decades of trail and error. take this car, the builder just design it and had these thousands parts build for him cheaply. Then they sell that car to judge buyer, if it sell well in time they will build it themself. It’s why apple trying to get back in china cause all the part are made there. It’s about the advancement of extruded plastic mechines that they can computer control to make plastic pieces by the thousands in a Day or 2 this is building the molds and strength / tear testing all including in per piece .
Think how much that would cost and time elsewhere. So tech production will alway be build there they can assemble them and call it the own. Many of our product are just that, but now it has move up to high price purchases. Even Boeing use china parts and head quarter there. They’re tons the public and congress don’t know. We are so lost.. LOL
It is a new less useful 1993 Geo Metro Convertible ......
😅😅 true
We want reviews of serious cars, not trash like this.
If you're going to complain about all the manual stuff then get the heck out of the business so that idiots don't start parroting your lazy views. Next, you'll start ranting about the range anxiety this car causes you because it won't goo 400 miles on a charge. It does have almost twice the range of the early Fiat 500e and other city cars of its era. The boo space is a valid complaint for a car at any price. This one is overpriced for the mental laziness of design that went into it. It should be plastic inside, albeit automotive grade. The convertible top looks exactly as it should be expected to look. Maybe you'd like a set of solid panels to wiggle into the boot space? There is no way any self-respecting person would put you in position to find them a suitable exporter. Wow! It's even fast enough for my 2 mile work commute with its 0.3 mile, 45 mph stretch. That's 43 days or nearly 2 months of driving to work and back on a single charge, so just 6 charges per year counting holidays off. You finally hit a point that is fair. EVs are not something for people who earn their money. After at least 10 years, they finally hit a point in their usability life span where they are a decent to fair value. I can get a MiEV or Prius from long ago at a decent price any day of choice. Not one new EV is worth its price brand new. To be worth having, an EV should have nothing electronic except the parts that control the motor and those parts that help us to obey speed limits and other traffic laws. Any other conformist items should be purely utilitarian and the cost should reflect this. Today, my best practical option for electric transport is an ebike because every auto manufacturer jumped the gun and are trying to figure out where to get the money from to compensate for their idiocy. We were not ready for long range electric cars. In a sane world, only rich people would have them for toys to show off to the rest of us. There could have been a market for city cars if it weren't for influencers constantly telling people that they need more range. Haven't you learned anything about the consequences of not thinking before you act?
