Honestly I think some people had the negative reaction purely because it reminded them of Sonic '06, as if it's entirely impossible for Sonic '06 to have done anything positive. The city stuff clearly wasn't trying to be "serious" either, it looked quirky as fuck and I love it.
i am DEEPLY interested in color palette of video games. although this is not the most colorful mario game (that title belongs to yoshi's island) it is one of the best looking. however i want to see a mario game int the style of wind waker or skyward sword or even yoshi's new island. i want to make a video series on color palettes but i'm in the planning stages so i going to start summer with 3 games.....sunshine,wind waker, and sonic mania. as for 06 i LOVE that game......it was my first xbox 360 game and it was so fun. and the gliches were annoying but sometimes fun to do. however the color palette was BAD.
