Vijayanagar empire were the original ones to unite south against the Turks. That saved Hinduism to a large extent, when that fell due to treachery of Muslim generals, the Marathas took over the mantle of resistance from south of the Vindyas to finally finish the treacherous Mughals!

Marathas fought british more than they fought mughals so many anglo maratha wars. Vijayanagara were the ones who protected south for much of mughals power in north.
Of course, before Marathas, Vijaynagar empire resisted and stopped islamic expansion in Southern India.

first Vijay Nagar then Chhatrapati protected South from Delhi Sultanate and Mughals also Southern India was far away from Delhi played significant role. And Southern kings and specially queens have role in it.

Another thing our indian empires were many times against each other. Some time north and south kings against each other and vise versa. Big difference between internal wars and invadors was destroying culture and relegious conversion by massacr and worst laws. That was not the case with indian kings. Generals public were not harmed in internal wars. This south vs north is recent prapoganda. If you look at kings and their hiatory many kings from south were ruling maharashtra upto gujarat. Kakatiyas were first to fight with turkic Kiljis in South India. They defeated in them first war but lost in 2nd war. Telangana was referred as mulk e Tilang by them. South of Krishna river and costal areas were later saved by Vijayanagar empire. After fall of Vijayanagar, their nobels became extremely feudal and fought among themselves. Rise of Marathas came like boon but they soon lost influence in South after Panipat battle.
British came at that time at last after Panipat 3 war..

According to me shivaji didn't cared for southern regions, there were other powerful empires at his time in southern regions that also resisted invasions, but due to Shivajis strong presence in Maharashtra southern india indirectly got safe. But that doesn't means he fought for south india. Because north indians never knows what is Vijayanagara empire just like how they don't know who is kempegowda staying in Bengaluru or fancy Bangalore.

Tughlaq & Khiljis did invade Tamil Nadu, Andhra etc after defeating Pandyan Kings, it was the Vijayanagar Empire that protected south for 300 years after that it was the Marathas who kept Mughals busy in the deccan and later invaded Delhi, we should also thank the Travancore kingdom who defeated Tipu & Hyder ali

Back then it wasn't easy to take down an empire completely within such short span. If distance from North India was one of the reason that South India was not invaded then is Turkey very near to Bharath? If you say Chatrapati Sivaji Maharaj was the reason South India survived Mugal Invasion then what about Assam and Northeast? You have to understand more about South Indian history to comment on or answer such questions or accept the hard truth that you do not know the answer.
I have also picked up a bias towards the North. I personally think it’s just a lack of understanding regarding a lot of things in the South.
The sad part is, a descent intellectual like this guy blatantly ignores the fact that many of the arguments that he is quoting from was preserved and protected by scholars and intellectuals from South India and the North India have completely lost their identity but still do not want to accept it. The Hindi they speak is Urdu-Hindi but when a South Indian speak pure Hindi, they make fun of it. Even Sanskrit words are pronounced wrongly by North Indians.
