A marvellous appraisal. Especially appreciated today on his 125th birthday...he really did fizz like the sky rocket during that 'Give my regards to Broadway' number. What a bewitching contradiction he was. An aesthete playing the philistine. Author, Robert Sklar wrote:" he took the spirit of the street & made it national". I always found it telling, that one of his biographers, Patrick McGilligan named his study of this great star, 'Cagney: Actor as Auteur'. His vivid improvisational touches in every scene linger long in the mind's eye. Every performance he ever gave put a spring in the step of the viewer. I'd love to descend a flight of stairs the way he does at the end of 'Yankee Doodle Dandy'. I would have to check my insurance first though!! Thanks for the video, sir...loved the kinetic editing which befits the mercurial little dynamo which it celebrates...
JAMES CAGNEY.
Thank you for mentioning A Midsummer Night's Dream among your Honorable Mentions. Cagney makes a delightful Bottom. Since White Heat came in at #2, there was no way Yankee Doodle Dandy couldn't be #1. I don't know of any actor working today who could have pulled off such brilliant performances as two such wildly different characters.
I so enjoyed Mr Cagney every time I watched him . Also,. Check this out...I think Michael Jackson picked up some of his dance moves from Mr Cagney. If I'm right... wouldn't that be something..
@@Tamara-db3ep There was talk of MJ doing a musical version of ' Angels with dirty Faces' years ago but it came to nothing. I noticed the poster for The Public Enemy in the Smooth Criminal video...

One of my favs too!🎉
He's just too amazing, as are you!!!!
'Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye' and 'The Time of Your Life' are two of my favourites but I'll agree with you on 'One, Two, Three', which is joyous.
So far, I’ve seen Cagney in The Public Enemy, The Roaring Twenties, and White Heat.
Many treats ahead of you then...he proved a master farceur in Billy Wilder's frenetic 'One, Two, Three'...
Great list! But yeah, Man of a Thousand Faces would've been in my Top 10. Also loved City For Conquest and Strawberry Blonde. Loved your video!
can you do one on ingrid bergman please!!
Haven't seen some of the picks.......but i was looking for G-Men
@@danielzerbe8567 That's funny... normally, G- Men are looking for other people!!
