Nice video Mark, I finally managed my first solo wild camp last Friday and I'll be honest and say that I was quite nervous about it. I had nothing to worry about though, I was well prepared, my missus knew the location i was at and I had a great night. The goal this year is to wild camp at least once every month for 2023.

Well put mate, you hit the nail on the head there, I always enjoy hiking/camping trips solo, I haven't found anyone sound enough to go with, it's always the timing is wrong to go with someone or it's the village idiot, I go midweek and never weekends I'm on shift work pattern most people would go on weekends and the woods are usually not that busy, weekends for me are family times to be together. But I would like to try camping with others as I've never done it before, it would be a new experience. Either ways enjoy the outdoors and stay safe everyone 👍

They would say "I'm not bored with you" but they were probably a bit The solo nights are the best challenge . When I kayaked alot I would use an app called glympse to share my location . Often got calls while taking a break wondering if I had died . Glympse will at least show them where your body is . Sending regular text messages is also a way to keep loved ones happy. Every time I come off a summit I send a text . Or if I see my network coverage is gone I will retrace my steps and send a message saying "network dodgy" and proceed with an estimated next text message . These protocols have enabled me to do things I'd never have dreamed of . Take care brother
Thanks for that, Mark. Nice relaxed video. Two questions. Ever had any trouble with strangers hassling you while wild camping? And did you return and find your car damaged? I'm finding I'm more worried about the vehicle than me some nights - luckily it's an 08 😀
Good question, I have never had any problems with other campers, most are just out to enjoy themselves, I met some great people and had brilliant chats around the fire. On the car front as well never any damage done, though I do know a chap got his tyres slashed last year at glenmalure, cheers for the comment pal 👍🍀

Lot of sound advice there, Mark. Yeah, people can make or break an enjoyable experience out there in the wilds, more so than a swarm of midges or inclement weather. But, it's not just the one chosen to be with around that campfire who's hidden, bipolar disorder might be triggered by the heebie-jeebies of being out of their comfort zone. There's also the angst of the dodgy gatecrasher who could upend a perfectly nice evening under the stars! As for that, 1% of keeping a tentative eye and ear open out there, in uncharted territory? Makes perfectly good, look before you leap, sense...Or you'll defo leave no trace, of you!
Had an experience a few years ago a trusted friend brought his new brother in law along on a camp, a few beers in he went nuts and was saying he was going to kill us and stuff. At one point I thought we might have to tie him up for the night😂 turns out all he needed was a few slaps, very selective who I go with now Mark you are dead right pal👍
