What a brave and curious goat! 😂 Fantastic shots Gerry showing off the views, flora and wildlife - the mountain tops and lakes looked spectacular! You had it all on this trip - adventure, solitude and even great weather. Glad the cap made it home with you too 😎
Miriam, I do think it was after my Weetabix🐐😊 It was cool to see those wild goats on Dooish, not being aware that they were present in this area. They hung about for ages and I was worried they were going to grab something and head off with it as they are famed for eating literally anything😊 It is a glorious area for walking and wild camping (as you know) and I think it was a good decision to return and wild camp there. The weather was just about perfect and there was just enough breeze to keep the midges at bay for most of the time - I did get some midge bites and a tick! Still surprises me that I can meet no one else on those hills on a Sunday.
That sunset was amazing, you really had it all on that one Gerry, the walkable river, the lake, the goats and the deer, each one so surprised that they hadn't the summit to themselves, only discovering it at the last second. Well done.
Brilliant Gerry! Thanks for the car parking advice! Would love to see this continue in future videos (great info for starting points of hikes) Glad to see you're taking full advantage of the great weather at the minute ☀
Cheers Jonny👍 Will remember car parking advice, an important point in planning a trip👍 Was out for 4 weekends in a row and probably due another one after a break of a few weeks😊
Wow Gerry! What a beautiful walk! The mountains were just spectacular, amazing views in the changing light, and what a nature show too, the trees, the bird song, deer, invertebrates, the flowers, so so beautiful. (Oh and the goat!) Thanks for another brilliant video.
Cheers Alyn👍 Glenveagh is a cool area for hiking and wild camping and definitely has an increased variety of wildlife than many of of the upland areas of Ireland. It was one of those trips were you could have just sat down and stared at the stunning views on so many occasions. I had loads of time on the summit of Dooish in the evening and the morning which satisfied this urge😊 I love hearing birdsong on the hills. Deer are cool to see though (like sheep) there is that thought of the impact upon the landscape by their presence. Thank you for watching👍
I admire you for all what you're doing and sharing with us on u tube I lived on a hill farm in Northern Ireland with my x wife 20years in the mountains of mourn and I've done a lot of mountains ⛰ God bless you my friend 😊
Paul, many thanks for your very kind words👍 The mountains of Mourne are second to none and that must have been a beautiful place to live and work for 20 years.
Another epic walk in my favourite County Gerry. Your videos are inspirational and beautifully filmed. You have a great eye for the natural world around you, plants, water and animals, and the solitude and beauty of the Donegal hills is wonderfully portrayed in this latest adventure. Thank you for sharing your walk with us
Cheers Richard👍 It was an epic walk and felt like a grand adventure as I was all out there by myself. There is just so much to see when you are out in the hills, up close or reaching out into the distance and taking the time to notice is pretty cool😊
Hi Gerry - thanks for sharing another amazing trip! Great time of year to be out with the late sunsets and early sunrises! Twilight until 11p is awesome! Lovely green mountains, wonderful views from the tops. Exciting to see deer, sheep and goats. They all looked like fun friends. Super cool to see a frog and the beetles too. I bet the grass was softer than the rock slab, at least I hope so! It’s really interesting to see how the top of Dooish has lots of flat rocks mixed with grassy areas. Thanks for sharing this part of Ireland with us! 😄👍👍
Cheers Jennifer👍 Hardly any time for sleeping at all this time of year💤😊 It is pretty cool to have the light that late and makes up for the dead of winter when there can be 12 hours in the tent😊 We have had a very dry and warm spell here until recently which made for really good going as it is usually very wet ground up there. Always cool to see wildlife in the hills here, though we still have a long way to go to support and encourage more of that back onto our overgrazed hillsides. Thank you for watching this part of Ireland👍😊
That scramble up the riverbed was something else, not knowing what was coming next and having all those trees around me - it felt like I was in a forest🌳😊 The weather was lovely throughout and just about perfect for the camp on the summit, with enough of a breeze to stay midge free🦟😊
Cheers Siobhan👍 It was an amazing adventure, one of those that you just keep staring at, mouthing 'wow' to yourself, usually with a big smile😊 I love the Derryveagh Mountains and especially that side of the valley with Dooish, Glenveagh, Poisoned Glen and Slieve Snaght👍👍
@@gerrymcveigh it sure was amazing Gerry! Do you have a lot of navigation experience? Have considered hiking around the Derryveagh Mountains as not too far from me, but afraid I would get lost!
A trail between mountains so amazing, Thanks for sharing this walking tour in the Glenveagh National Park. The beautiful waterfalls it's absolutely magical, the water flowing down the big boulders to the streams, and the so many picturesque views.I enjoyed watching your mountain adventure.
Hi Gerry. That was a very good walk that had everything in it. Beautiful sunset and views, lots of wildlife from beetles to deer and the friendly goat that called around for breakfast 😂. Its hard to get into bed when it stays bright and you have views like that. All the best 👍
Andrew, it was about as good as it can get I think👍😊 I could literally sit and stare at those views all night, even in the dark😊 The goats were cool and not to shy in coming forward🐐😊
I did a similar route last year in May, it was a glorious experience and oddly had than same chilly Northern wind on the summit of Dooish, luckily only fifty or so meters down the side you came up there are amazing sheltered and flat spots for tents. Glenveagh and the Derryveagh mountains is an amazing place, seen more variety of wildlife there than I would in months of hiking in northern ireland. A golden eagle flew right past us only a few hundred feet away, twice!. Falcons, tons of dragon fly, red grouse, more red dear than I could count. It's a special place imo and can't wait to see more of the benefits of re-wilding over the years.
It is a well cool place for walking and wild camping👍 There were loads of dragonflies along the river, though I suppose there is loads of food too with all those other biting flying things🦟 I think I saw 2 Golden Eagles on a previous trip in the area though that was the only time so well cool when they are spotted. I loved the bits of old forest in Glenveagh and there are fenced off areas where that rewilding is taking place with Scots Pine etc. They have good info on the website for Glenveagh National Park. There are so few trees in the hills of Ireland that it is great to see any!
That Loch is a cracker. Tropical looking indeed. Get a paddle board & Camp on the island next time. 😉 Stunning wee Mountain Gerry. Lovely evening light shining on the loch. What a spot for a bivvy. 😎👌
Cheers Kev👍 I might go back and camp on that wee island and I could probably wade out to it😊 The weather was superb as was the evening and morning light on the summit which was a great spot alright to bed down for the night💤😊
I love the whole west coast of Ireland which is truly spectacular and I agree we don't know how lucky we are to literally have all that we do to visit and explore👍
Cheers Nigel👍 It was a great trip taking a different route to Dooish. I had a cracking camp there a number of years ago and it was good to go back. It is pretty cool to be able to record theses trips and share them with others and maybe encourage people to get out and experience these amazing places themselves👍
You've been blessed with some incredible sunsets in Donegal recently, Gerry. Really enjoyed this - and thanks for mentioning some of the books that have given you inspiration for routes. I have Hendroff on my shelf and have added a couple of others that you previously mentioned when walking the north Mayo cliffs. All the best, Steve.
Cheers Steve👍 I have a good collection of walking guides and books and don't look at them often enough. They are great for some inspiration and can lead to fantastic new areas to walk - like those North Mayo sea cliffs👍 I have a load of walks photocopied from the Walking Ireland magazine that I will have to dig out to and have another look at. When the weather is good out west it is hard to beat☀😊
Class video Gerry, the goat was very inquisitive which was cool. Pity about the Gopro playing up but at least you go the shots you needed at the end there. What a stunning spot you had and the weather, the weather loves you 😄
Jason, I thought I was delirious when those goats appeared. They then just hung around for ages as i was getting breakfast and packing up🐐😊 Not sure what was going on with the gopro - it seemed to be recording on time lapse and wouldn't stop so i had to take the battery out to get it to stop. I think I need another camp with plenty of rain during the night🌨 no thunder⚡ though😊
Beautiful as usual Gerry 👌 Great to see so many familiar views. That area was relatively unknown to me but I've been on that ridge 3 times with the Club in the last year 😊 That wee parking area is known locally as "Billy's Pit" and is the result of gravel extraction. Great spot for accessing this ridge. Hope you managed to source an ice cream before home🍦🍨👍
Cheers Niall👍 It is a place worth visiting time and again as there is so much to explore👍 It is a great wee parking spot to head into Glenveagh, away from the much busier visitor centre. I didn't get that ice cream🍦 though the thought of it kept me going in the heat😊
Awesome scramble gerry - I agree you got your money's worth. Took me some time to get to you but I've been busy and there have been so many long ones to watch. Great to be hear through. So, good to have the wind keep the midges at bay gerry but a bit more tricky up top - well you found a good pitch out of its way. One of the best sunsets to. Far out goats to say hi in the morning. Cheers Mark, that was a cool trip with plenty of exploring over new ground and super weather (long forgotten now with the current weather) to chill out on the mountain top😊 The goats were a surprise and were perhaps even more chilled than I was😊
Hi Gerry, I walked up that burn just to the left hand side last August, it was a real leg breaker, steep, long grass, uneven ground and giant spider webs everywhere lol. That route on the actual burn looked really nice in comparison. Another great video, really enjoyed that, thanks!
It seems like I had the better deal walking along the riverbed😊 It was glorious though being able to clamber up through those boulders and water falls and I would have loved to have tackled that last bit though it was just too dodgy. I hope there weren't giant spiders to go with those spiderwebs🕸🕷
9pm sunset! Its looks chill of your open kitchen on summit. Cooking and watching sunset slowing down, What a hard life !! LoL🤪 Lovely reflection from the Lough, as if a mirror in nature.😄

Tom, loads of beautiful areas in Glenveagh (with or without midges🦟😊). I have only ever seen Eagles once around there - a pair late in the evening and it was a magnificent sight. I have also seen the much smaller Merlins in the Poisoned Glen nearby. We are both fans of birds of prey and it is cool to see them.
