Edit: I also want to give props for Jon for saying it anyways, just to help the viewer feel undefended just in case.
he does say that it could "easily be taken as transphobic", not that it was fuelled by transphobia. Time for bed! :D *Johnny uploaded Pokemon* Nevermind! :D Edit: Seriously can't wait to see your opinion on Gen 3, Pokemon Emerald is my favorite Pokemon game.
I really don't like the very concept of this game. I don't see why Gen 1 even needed a second remake, especially one that's worse than FireRed/LeafGreen in many ways. Why did we need a remake that regresses the series in this many ways? Abilities have been a staple of the series since Gen 3, and I don't remember anybody complaining about them being too complicated, so why did they have to be removed here? There's also the issue I have with this game really being "Baby's First Pokemon Game". Between your starter being disgustingly overpowered, the first gym actively barring you from entry unless you have a water or grass type, and the ludicrous amount of experience given out just for catching Pokemon, this is probably the single easiest set of Pokemon games in the franchise's history. The Gen 6 and 7 games have already been criticized for making the games progressively easier and holding the player's hand more and more, so why make that even worse here? Finally, and this may just be a me thing, but I am SOOOO sick of Gen 1. We've already had two Generations in a row that have been filled to the brim with Gen 1 dicksucking. Gen 6 had an entire area that was literally just the Viridian Forest, brought in the Legendary Bird Trio and Mewtwo, gave you a Kanto starter, and gave the bulk of Mega Evolutions to Gen 1 Pokemon(though to be fair, power creep means that the Gen 1 Pokemon are the ones who most benefit from the power boost). Gen 7 introduced an awesome concept with Alolan Forms, then wasted it's potential by giving them all to Gen 1 Pokemon, despite there being a number of Pokemon from other Generations that would make sense having different regional forms. To top all that off with a remake of a Generation that already got remakes, and not even managing to make Kanto remotely interesting on top of it, truly does piss me off.
Kuasocto not true. The games have been slowly evolving all the time. This here is an exception and a testing ground for a real gen Pokémon coming up next.
@@HaohmaruHL In any other series "evolution" like that would be criticised as doing the bare minimum, because im fact, that's what it is. The differences between any 2 generations are so small that you have to actively look for them to find anything. And still, after all these years the games use the same exact formula they started with. Pokemon isn't all that different from Fifa and Call of Duty when it comes to how much it changes.
Don't forget that the EXP you get for catching Pokemon is MUCH more than what you would get for defeating trainers, the amount of Xp from a whole trainer battle you can get all at once by catching the right Pokemon
@@manidavis4126 No they are not Leaf got officially named by official merchandise. They each have different names and are as different as Kris and Lyra.
Yo, just wanted to say. You have no idea how happy it makes me to see you admit to being wrong for making that joke you mentioned in the beginning. Most people, especially on here... don't much care for being decent. Thanks, Johnny.
Here we go, this is a throw back, those pokemon videos (and the early Metriod and Zelda marathons) are the whole reason I subbed to this channel 5 years ago.
1. Seeing as Adventures was mentioned in the gen 2 review and it poked fun at Bugsy, you should be fine. 2. I have a pal who plays pokémon go when bored. We have about 20 pokémon at the campus at any one time and the walking points go up even though the phone in on a table. 3. Also the manga includes (and not limited to) attempted genocide, torture, theft, PTSD, mind control, murder, mental breakdowns, isolation, cities being blown up etc.
15:00 It was Gen IV what did the Game Corners in, sadly. Diamond & Pearl were the first main series games released in South Korea, where casino gambling is illegal for Korean citizens. By 2009, when Platinum came out, PEGI (Pan European Game Information - basically European ESRB) had also started rating games 12+ if they had any form of gambling. In order to keep those games to standard, they took out the slot machines in those regions, and every main Pokémon game since then has been bereft of slot machines. The 3DS Virtual Console ports of the Gen I and II games still have the slot machines though, and they took 12+ ratings in Europe for it too. I appreciate that dedication to releasing the Game Boy games unaltered.
It did seem kinda weird that a 10-11 year old could play pokies. But then again it was weird that a 10-11 year old was adventuring into the wild to battle and capture animals and defeat a league of scheming adults.
Oh good, you didn’t forget Round 2. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on “Shantae: Half Genie Hero - Ultimate Edition”, “Sonic Mania Plus”, “A Hat in Time: Seal the Deal”, and whatever other bonus content you’ll see from other games.
mad props to Johnny for being willing to call attention to an offensive joke from a past review that he isn't proud of. it's rare nowadays for someone to admit they were wrong like that.
Though I recently commented...difficulties with getting into Let’s Go (namely a broken joycon) on your most recent video as of now, I gotta say, the point about the partner not evolving but allowing you to get more of them is sweet as a fellow owner of the Eevee version. As far as the actual Eeveelutions go, I’m particularly partial to Espeon, especially after XD (hope I’m not limited to the original three), but Eevee is just so damn adorable that I’ll gladly have one stay an Eevee forever.
Very enjoyable review and I can't wait for the rest of the marathon. Can I hope dearly that John will cover the legendary Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series and experience the great story of Rescue Team, Special Episode 5, Gates and Super? Hopefully.
13:06 - 13:12 Funny enough, Both Green and Leaf are actually the same person in the Manga. Also Johnny, in regards to pokemon getting chopped in half in the Manga, That was just 2 times. Plus that Arbok that got chopped in half actually didn't die. Remember Piccolo's and Cell's regeneration ability from DBZ? It's like that.
I just found your channel, and I'm very impressed with your work. You didn't say exactly why you didn't want to read the Pokemon manga, but I'd highly recommend it. It is a fantastic read and a great adventure.
13:18 That comic panel of Arbok getting sliced in half by Charmeleon scarred me when I read it as a 13 year old. I can remember turning the page, seeing that panel and thinking, “OH JESUS!”
Do Pokemon have "insides" anymore? I like to think that with the lack of them getting cut apart in the games, or any major violence really, that every Pokemon is filled with some arbitrary material that is just an extension of what their skin is, which for most Pokemon looks like some kind of putty.

Not really. He’s done Pokémon marathons before
That was like 4 years ago guys. He must be new.
Dillan Santiago it’s easy enough to just look at his channel and see he’s done it before making a broad declarative statement implying otherwise
VulturePilot legit no one cares just let him say what he wants he’s not hurting anyone🤷🏽♂️
That part with the onix killed me haven't laughed that hard in a while
Johnny, you should totally read the manga. It's the best depiction of the Pokemon world and mythos, hands down.
Once you finish the Gen 3 games please play the Shadow games
Pokemon Colosseum and XD Gale of Darkness
A Wild Johnny vs Pokemon video appeared!
Let's Go!
Johnny's finally covering Pokemon again! Let's GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Next, the PPG licensed games...
Didn’t know you watched Johnny
...Pikachu and Eevee
Johnny is one of the only reviewers on TH-cam who makes content that I'll not only watch but also re-watch consistently
Got hit hard by that "To Be Continued..." screen; oh boy, I love that from the show.
As a trans girl, I never found that joke to be tasteless or to be targeted towards trans people.
Granted I wasn't trans at the time when I saw that video for the first time (was 14 around 2012)
Point is, I don't take offense to it : P
Also this video helped me a little bit out of my depression, so thank you for that.
Good to know im not the only Trans girl watching this channel
Always be proud of your self no matter what anyone says you choose this path in life and your enjoying it that is all that matter by the way am 17 and i said all this your welcome.
The joke does hurt a little personally. It's not too bad, but that's why I'm extra glad he owns up to it and reflects on this kind of stuff, even if it's minor.
Yeah, same here, if anything I completely forgot about it
@@drewmurray3095 Being proud of yourself.

lol
I didn’t find the Bugsy quip transphobic at all, man. Didn’t even notice till you brought up that it could be seen like that maybe.
VideoGamePlayer I wouldn’t call it full on SJW, but they definitely have traces of it, and honestly the worst aspect of it is feeling guilt and shame for telling jokes. Never apologize for a joke. Jokes are meant to take things off pedestals and apologizing does just the opposite.
@VideoGamePlayer Ironically, since Matt always was the shit talking/outgoing guy if the group (SGB, for those who don't know), and honestly, I'm glad I've never seen a progressive/SJW post from Johnny yet. In my mind, he still the same guy I grew to enjoy and love, unlike FTCR, who started out okay but now has fallen into the politically correct side of the force...RIP in pasta the good ol days
@@theabsolutetrashman3708I don't know how this happens but it's happening a lot with people who use social media as a job like TH-cam. They used to not care as much a long ass time ago but now where you can get called out for something you said on Twitter or something and get backlash from it eventhough you moved on and apologized about it. It's mostly happening with white people because of "white guilt" that they need to be on the side where they won't get yelled at. They'll still get yelled at anyways for not "checking their privileges" correctly. 1st world problems right?
@@lampcrow5453 Exactly you shouldn't retract a joke because it's tasteless.
@@sonicrusher64 it is sad how we now shouldnt really apologize about somethimg we did in the past or now to random people on the internet.
some of these random people do not find an apologe enough will try to get more out of you.
Never exited out of playing Kingdom Hearts 3 this fast before.
SomeCallMeJohnny takes priotity!
Raichu's your favorite pokemon?
I knew there was a reason I liked this channel.
Man, back in my day you had to grind for weeks to get perfect Iv/EVs.
Kids these days have it so good...
I didn't think the joke about Bugsy was Trans-phobic personally , just a joke about anomaly of an appearance being visually confusing about whether he was a boy or girl without being too complicated.
Edit: I also want to give props for Jon for saying it anyways, just to help the viewer feel undefended just in case.
he does say that it could "easily be taken as transphobic", not that it was fuelled by transphobia. It's also important to remember that a lot of trans or gender non-conforming people get ridiculed and made fun of for being that way through being called "it", instead of the pronouns they actually use.
i think johnny was just making sure that we know that he's grown from that, which i appreciate :)
@jesus barrera go read the wiki you'll probably find out
@VideoGamePlayer 'sjws', lmao. he's just being not transphobic
jesus barrera Bugsy is a boy. His appearance is feminine, but he was not meant to be a trans character.
Androgyny FTW.
Please do Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness. they are the same core gameplay as the rest of the series.
Colosseum is one of my favorite pokemon games
Time for bed! :D
*Johnny uploaded Pokemon*
Nevermind! :D
Edit: Seriously can't wait to see your opinion on Gen 3, Pokemon Emerald is my favorite Pokemon game.
To top all that off with a remake of a Generation that already got remakes, and not even managing to make Kanto remotely interesting on top of it, truly does piss me off.
gamefreak is just like Mr Krabs. They like money. And not much else.
Fuck gen 1
A separate exercise video of Johnny walking around with the punch out theme would be the greatest thing I never knew I needed.
Wow! Pokémon Kanto region? Never been there before! [discards Gen 1, Gen 2, the GBA remakes, the DS remakes]
Never ever in my life...
What DS Remakes
MimileaksPlays Heart Gold/Soul Silver. You can travel to Kanto
Imo hg/ss were the best games in the main series.
Some Random Guy they are
Ekim X Naw black 2 and white were overall better games
Last time Johnny talked about Pokemon he actually had hair , it's seriously has been that long 😄👌
Never clicked off Johnny's old videos so fast. I don't have much of a life.
Its ok most of us dont either
No joke: I went through the Rock Tunnel without using Flash just for the sake of living out that SpongeBob 'How Tough Am I' meme.
Can't wait for the next Pokemarathon; hope you enjoy my favorite generation, Johhny!

Pokémon marathon?! Hell yes. Looking forward to your reviews on the gen 5 games.
Yo, just wanted to say. You have no idea how happy it makes me to see you admit to being wrong for making that joke you mentioned in the beginning. Most people, especially on here... don't much care for being decent. Thanks, Johnny.
Ya Know what i like about Johnny this man has always been the Chill dude who just likes games and hasnt had any fame get to his head and i love it
You are one of the only TH-camrs that creates fantastic content at a comfortable pace with ZERO lack in quality.
13:28 lord helix is internally screaming right now
YES! GEN 3 BABY! AKA: the best one.
I know the gen 3 games from top to bottom, so i'm really glad you are finally covering one of them!
I disagree about being an best one. It's an opinion.
"You can find God and maybe an evolution stone." Oh the irony in that statement.
Here we go, this is a throw back, those pokemon videos (and the early Metriod and Zelda marathons) are the whole reason I subbed to this channel 5 years ago.
1:06 My reaction to Johnny's virtue signalling
Sorry to disappoint, Johhny. On-map encounters and Pokémon following you have been removed for Pokémon Sword/Shield.
Games not out for 6 or 7 months. The games aren't finished yet has the director said as much
One could only hope nothing implemented in these shit games stays for gen 8
Mike Wehr You don’t want Pokémon walking behind you on the map?
@@luigiq2861 No because it can waste hardware space for more promising features

"...without actually playing Pokémon Channel. Remember that?!" 🤣Lmao that got me good.
Also vaporeon is my fave eeveelution too! (And go team Valor!)

It was Gen IV what did the Game Corners in, sadly.
Wanna hear a joke?
Someone getting a black out in Let's go.
You haven't seen Tom Fawkes play LGE, have you?
Flansey LMAO
I blacked out on the nugget bridge to see if I could get multiple nuggets, but it didn't work sadly
I have a better joke.
Blacking out when you know what you're doing period.

@@patronsaintgains Nah, everyone's an SJW nowadays.
Its finally here a new Pokemon marathon! This is going to be great.
I love that “to be continued” at the end.
Woah, that image on 13:21 has me SHOOK right now. WTF?!!
The manga was a lot less kid friendly in Japan
Don't worry that Arbok gets better.
Now the two Magmars that Giovanni freezes and crushes...yeah they're fucking dead

Funny enough, Both Green and Leaf are actually the same person in the Manga.
Also Johnny, in regards to pokemon getting chopped in half in the Manga, That was just 2 times. Plus that Arbok that got chopped in half actually didn't die. Remember Piccolo's and Cell's regeneration ability from DBZ? It's like that.

That comic panel of Arbok getting sliced in half by Charmeleon scarred me when I read it as a 13 year old.
